This is the second time I've used this company. We had an estimate done at our house. Phil came over and discussed what we wanted done. He measured and took pictures so he could provide us with an estimate later. We accepted the estimate and set up a future date for the work. Christina S., the office manager, handled the work schedule. We received a contract with the days plotted out, showing what would happen each day.

The work went on as scheduled. In fact the sanding and staining was even ahead of schedule! We are very satisfied and would recommend them.

Had wood floors installed in several areas in home years ago, called them back a few years ago and had kitchen done. Floor developed spot which would bounce down when stepped on. Apex came out gave several solutions but decided to fix it in winter when bounce was the worst. Called them in December, no return call, called again in January, no return call. Even left a message wanting a quote to put in wood floor in family room, no callback
So I'll take my money elsewhere, the job they did wasn't THAT great.

We had used Apex in our prior house for new work, and to correct problems left by another company we had used. That experience went so well, we didn't even get multiple quotes on this job.
The quoting process took about a week, but we weren't in any particular hurry, so that was no problem and we told the salesman so. He was thorough in his review of the space, and in his conversation with us about the finishing.
They started work about a week later. The work people were on time, neat in their work, and cleaned up every day.
The work done was excellent. The color match was great, the finishing details - trim, edge along the bridge to carpeting looks perfect. Even the sanding, which can cause a problem with the dust, was handled so well that we really didn't notice any mess outside the construction area.
Our experience in this area is you get what you pay for - and having less than an excellent job causes more problems and expense over the long term. Apex has done that level of job for us several times.

We visited the Apex showroom on Ogden Ave. to discuss installation of a hard wood floor.( This company was chosen due to the ratings on Angie's List and BBB.) The carpeting had to be removed because of allergies. We settled on pre-finished flooring because it would have less odor for installation. Phil the salesman showed us samples and answered our questions. We set up an appointment for measuring and an estimate.
Phil came to our house to measure and was on time. He discussed the installation process and measured. He said he'd call to give us an estimate which he did. We agreed with the estimate and a contract was drawn up. We went back to the showroom to sign the contract and leave a 50% deposit. Christina S., the office manager, helped us book a time for delivery of the flooring and another time for installation.
The wooden flooring was delivered as promised. The crew manager called us within a week to let us know what time the installation crew would arrive on the following Monday. The installers came as promised and went right to work. They worked diligently and finished in 1 day. They really cleaned up well. We also received a care package for floor maintenance with a floor cleaner, mop and felt gliders for the bottom of the furniture. We were well satisfied and would definitely use them in the future. We were worried about getting the right company as we had not installed a wooden floor before. Apex made the process easy.

I took a half day off work to meet the sales rep at my home. He showed up, took measurements and said a quote would follow in about one week (who needs a week to prepare a quote). No quote was ever provided. If you do not want to bid on a job professional courtesy would be to tell the customer as soon as possible. Very unprofessional.

I called APEX, described the work I wanted done, was given the impression that they understood me and were interested in looking at the site. The person on the phone assured me that the person in charge of scheduling an estimate would call me the next day. He also told me they would charge $75.00 to come out (big negative). The next day came and went, no one called me. I am not interested in working with a contractor who can't even return a call.

They did a really good job. They were probably the most expensive, but I had several people that came in after the work was complete and they were amazed by the quality of the work. They didn't hide the fact that they were more expensive. The people that work for them are very highly trained on the equipment. They show you how to take care of the floors. They are professional. They stuck to the schedule. They let you know when they would be in and out. It was truly dustless after they did the sanding.

They were wonderful to work with and were very quick to respond to me. The price they gave me was much lower than 2 other companies I had come out. Ultimately, I decided not to put the floor in as I will be moving out of this house, but if I was going to do the work I definitely would have used them. I would recommend that others look into them!

We were impressed with the professionalism of everyone we worked with at Apex. They called with the schedule every day; the guys who came out came on time and were respectful of our home. After they removed the carpet and carried it into our basement for possible reuse later, they made sure to secure the subfloor, such that the finished floor had no squeaks. They had different teams of guys at the house that specialized either in installing, sanding, or finishing. All the guys were very courteous, native English speakers, and very easy to talk to. What was also impressive is that they were able to gradually shim up the floor near adjoining rooms, such that there was a seamless transition from the hardwood to the adjoining tile, without any annoying molding strips. One big selling point was that the sanding process was truly dustless; we have a very open floor plan and didn’t seal off any of the rooms, and there really was no dust. Another big selling point was that we also could be home during the process, as the floor finish had no odor at all both when it was being applied and when it was drying. Apex is incredibly knowledgeable on the installation of hardwood floors, with many options to choose from. Their showroom shows a lot of different woods and finishes.

We were extremely pleased with Apex's service from start to finish. Their estimator, office staff and work crew were very attentive. The company provided us with verbal and written information about the entire process. The work took 4 days to complete. We received a call the afternoon prior to each day's visit informing us when the crew would arrive the next day. The refinishers were punctual, neat and answered all our questions. We were also provided with a care package and instructions on how to maintain our newly refinished floors. In addition, Apex paid a follow up visit to inspect the work. Having your floors refinished is by nature a very disruptive process. Apex has figured out how to make it as pleasant an experience as possible.

Price was almost two times what we paid for hardwood flooring by going with a different company. I will admit that they know what they're talking about and I know one person who went with them, HOWEVER, unless you have money to burn, there are less expensive hardwood flooring companies out there who do just as good of a job, (Hank's Flooring, Ritchie Floors Inc, Don Snow Flooring, etc).

Apex came out and gave us a thorough estimate on how much it would be and what the procedure would be in detail. The crew that came in knew how to use the machinery etc. I had a small issue with the thresholds that were installed, but they fixed them and they turned out great.

On 2/3/06 Apex Flooring installed the laminated flooring with the initial estimate cost to be $4333.00. After the carpet was removed I was told that the floor was uneven and a leveling agent was needed to be installed before the flooring could be put down. The cost would be $65.00 per man, per hour plus materials. The cost was an additional $2171.00 to the original estimate. Fall 2008 the lower level was completely damaged by water including 18"-24" of mold on the walls. My insurance agency contracted with First Priority DKI 301 N. Woodbury St. South Elgin, IL 60177 to do the mitigation and reconstruction. When came time for the refinishing of the floor I was told that a leveling agent would not be needed, that essentially it was not needed. First Priority further stated they have a policy not to do work that is not needed even though the insurance company had already okayed the installation. I contacted Shiffler Builders, Inc. Naperville, IL. who installed a gas fireplace and windows on this level a few years ago. They also verified as did First Priority that the floor is pitched slightly toward the drain but not enough to need to be leveled before their work could be completed. I contacted Apex Flooring and requested that they return the $2171.00 that was the additional cost of the leveling agent and installation cost. The owner of the company, Matt Bechtel in a letter to me on 3/31/09 basically stated that they are the experts and "as far as writing letters to the State and Angie's List goes, do what you feel you have to do." I feel that Apex Flooring took advantage of my naivety and trust. I had had them install two other floors, both hardwood, and trusted their word as true.

After we purchased our house we knew there were hardwood floors under the carpet that was installed. We tore the carpet out ourselves and had Apex come to refinish the floors. The floors were in great shape, but lost that luster. It took them 1 day to complete the job. They sanded the floors and only applied a polyurethane coat. We didn't want the floors stained and wanted the natural oak color to show. They also did two sets of stairs. They covered all the cold air returns and cleaned up well after they were finished. We would recommend them for any refinishing work.

Store representative used my guestament and quoted a price but did not agree to giving us an estimate by visiting the site. The price seemed out of line with other offers and the representative that I talked to was not very inviting or willing to offer an appointment for a formal bid. I got the feeling that she thought we were not really interested in having the work done. Needless to say this company was dismissed early in the planning and estimating stage of our remodeling.

They put in some beautiful new hardwood floors and did the job perfectly. I was very happy overall with these guys and their working methods. They finished the job very quickly and cleaned up everything very well. It wasn't hard to set an appointment with them. They came out and gave me an estimate, and they finished the job.

They are a example of great company to work with, the keep me up to date every day on the agenda of the day and they did what they said they would do. All companies should strive to be like them. The vents are perfectly flush, great people to work with.
