In 2011 Ancor reupholstered my sofa. I am giving them an and quot;Fand quot; rating because they ignored the specifications I had clearly set during the rep visits before the job was agreed to, and because they demanded almost $1000 in additional fees the day the sofa was delivered.
The job requirements were detailed to the Rep during visits to my home. I told him what I wanted, gave examples using other furniture in my home (e.g., the highly-domed, soft seat cushions in my Bernhardt side chairs that I wanted replicated in the sofa). I even gave him a design magazine article with detailed instructions and illustrations on how the cushions should be constructed.
I asked the Ancor rep if he understood the specs completely, and not to not take the job if he did not. My exact words. He said he understood completely, and could deliver everything I asked for. His exact words.
He wanted a down payment. I gave it to him.
My specifications:
(1) very shallow sofa back (i.e., maybe an inch of foam on the wooden back).
I had thrown the original back cushions away years earlier and wanted the back to stay as-is, with maybe just a bit of extra foam to cover wooden slats, and
(2) very deep cushions that were also highly domed to match examples and photos I had given him, and medium-soft to match the cushions of the Bernhardt seat cushions I had shown him, and asked him to sit on;
I told the Ancor rep that I wanted the cushions to be deep - i.e., snug against the shallow back - because I used the sofa as a guest bed, and because I liked to curl up to read and nap;
(3) 2 throw pillows, and
(3) all else the same as current sofa.
The sofa he delivered - which he demanded an extra near $1000 for when he delivered - was as follows:
(2) rock-hard seat cushions, standard length, with no doming;
I had another reupholstered come to estimate cost to fix what Ancor had done, an upholsterer with dozens of and quot;Excellentand quot; and quot;5 Starand quot; ratings on Yahoo and similar and quot;Aand quot; Angie's ratings. He told me that the foam Ancor provided is intended for diner bench seats or the and quot;very obeseand quot;: I sink about one inch when I sit on these cushions.
This upholsterer also informed my that is it not standard to insist upon a down payment, nor to show up with new charges at time of delivery.
(3) no throw pillows at all;
(4) sofa skirt much longer than the original, so long that it dragged and draped on the floor
Long story short, I believed the Ancor rep when he told me repeatedly that he understood exactly what I wanted, and I did not insist that the specs be written into the order. I was also was foolish enough not to read the fine print on the order, which stated that acceptance of sofa on delivery was tantamount to and quot;complete satisfaction with the joband quot;.
As mentioned, I had paid a sum down, which he flat refused refused to return without going to court He also refused to leave my living room if I did not pay the original amount due, in addition to the $1000 extra.
Very very long story short, I paid the original amount due for the bad job just to get rid of him.
Again, I would strongly advise against using this company unless (1) you insist upon all specification being written into the contract (which is standard elsewhere, i have since learned), and (2) it is an extremely simple job, and (3) you have a good lawyer.
NOTE: I give quality a and quot;Dand quot; because specs were ignored. If I had ordered a standard-backed sofa with rock-hard cushions, no throw pillows, and an extra long skirt, the quality of work would get an A: I believe the the guy who did the actual reupholstery would have done a good job if he had followed my specs.

email didn't work, left a message on their answering machine, and finally someone returned my called. They probably had not even started the project, and was told I would get the chairs in about a week. So the week went by and still no chairs. I called again and was told they would deliver the following Tuesday AM. I had to work that morning, so I called and left a message to deliver after 5PM. No delivery. A Mr. Padilla called and said they would deliver Friday after 5PM. They finally showed up at 7:30 PM with 2 absolutly beautiful chairs. I was very happy with the workmanship.
I thought they were very expensive as I had bought the chairs, removed the old fabrics and refinished all the wood, and supplied all my own fabric. The cost to upholster 2 chairs was $1,180

When our chosen leather was delayed for delivery, he let us know right away, and offered to change to another, so he could be within the time range he had promised. We stuck with our choice and are very glad we did. The piece looks amazing!
Wonderful work, great communication, fair pricing. Totally recommend and hope to have them do some Baker chairs soon!
