He said the old battery was completely dead. When I told him that I had had it replaced less than a year ago, he explained that some people use batteries that have been sitting around for a few years and they die quickly. When I checked my records, I saw that I'd had it replaced cheaply by a vendor at the farmers' market who not only sells meat but sharpens knives and changes watch batteries. I thought it was a bargain at the time, but obviously not.
