- Dr Paul McGowan was outstanding. Very pet and owner friendly. Took his time, informative, good information. You can tell her really is a pet person.
- Would highly recommend Dr. Paul to any pet owner.
There were several problems with this entire process. First, a week after the initial visit it was determined that Dr. Primm did not believe there was anything wrong with my pet, therefore, based on his inaccurate and erroneous perception, he decided NOT to fully disclose OR even offer my options as the owner and parent of my pet. Dr. Primm chose not to give me the diagnostic options, and ran $202 worth of tests that he thought would show nothing wrong. But the labs showed possible issues with my pet's liver. Second, this test was run on a very small dog with 2 doses of a morphine derivative, another pain medication, and an hour after my pet ingested a high fat and high protein meal - all of which directly impact his gall bladder and liver function. Third, given the above mentioned interference the actual numbers were not necessarily indicative of an illness. Fourth, on the basis of non-diagnostic and non-conclusive test results, Dr. Primm had no qualms about sending me out of state with gas at almost $4 a gallon, to spend $102 on the exam, several hundred dollars on more lab work (that could have been run locally), and an additional $300 for an ultrasound if needed. The bottom line is, as the pet owner, I know my pet better than the vet does. His actions resulted in a violation of my rights as a pet owner by failing to treat me with respect by giving me options, he denied me the freedom to choose the best possible healthcare for my pet and that is not standard practice for good veterinary medicine.
After everything happened, much consulting, and requesting medical records to transfer the care of my pets to a different provider, it was discovered that the medical records were not accurate. It became clear that any issue I mentioned for my pet as a health concern was NOT noted or acted upon for 6 to 12 months after the initial issue transpired: I keep my own documentation. So not only did Dr. Primm never truly believe what I said were issues about my pet (which always ended up being treated medically down the road), he made no note of them until the issue became severe. There are many things I could say however I will keep it brief. The rules and regulations expected of this profession were violated, he preferred his views over than the reality and owners knowledge of the pet resulting in significantly delayed medical care. He limited the options offered to me as the pet owner because he didn't believe me, then referred when there was an inconclusive test done requiring more testing: I would have preferred being given ALL the options and deciding - it wouldn't have been what he chose to do either. He failed to do preventative care, because had earlier interventions been done some issues my pet has had could have been addressed prior to significant problems arising. Failing to offer all of the options, incorrect documentation, referral for tests that all could have been done locally, and blatant disregard for my pets health and respect of myself is deplorable. He shows dishonorable, unprofessional, and unethical behaviors.
Additionally, when someone inquired about the issue, and waited to speak with Dr. Primm, after MUCH whispering by the staff together and with Dr. Primm his first response was, "I will redo the tests for free and Pet's Name needs to fast for 12 hours" which indicates he knew he administer the wrong test sand his actions were wrong.
If you love you pet, the avoid Dr. Primm at the Village Vet.
