Last summer, I boarded my three dogs, two shelties and a German shepherd, at Pampered Pet for 18 days while I went out of town. They were kept in their own large room, uncaged, which was wonderful. They were allowed to participate in the daily doggie day care program for a little extra money because they had all their necessary inoculations and had agreeable temperaments. While I was in California, the owner sent me pictures of "the kids" so I didn't worry about them. I know they were in good hands and had a good time.
Nada is a trained vet tech, dog breeder, dog groomer, and dog trainer. All of these experiences make her well-suited to running and owning the Pampered Pet. Best of all, she is usually on-site to do the grooming herself so you as the owner can tell her or her staff exactly what services you want and listen to her recommendations.
Awhile ago, Pampered Pet relocated to new quarters at 2 Henson Place, which are far superior to their former digs on University Avenue. The new place is larger, brighter, has plenty of parking, and offers new services such as spa-like treatments for your darlings. When I picked my two shelties up from their grooming session on Feb. 14, each dog had a tiny ribbon on its collar. It was a sweet touch. This is a place that is competitively priced, but more importantly, my dogs are loved and well-treated by the staff here.

However I was very unhappy after my personal experience. I e-mailed the company to inquire about openings, and they were very prompt to respond and get my dog, Landon, in. They were very nice over e-mail and seemed excited to give him his first hair cut. I scheduled the appointment for 11:30 a.m. during the week to take him over on my lunch break. When I got t here, there was a very loud vacuum sound in the back of the store, and there was no one at the front desk. There was a doorbell on the wall that said ring for service. I rang that doorbell at least 10 different times, waiting a good minute each time for someone to hear. But the vacuum in the back was so loud that no one could hear the doorbell.... At various points the vacuum would stop, and I would call out, "hello?" but no one would answer. At one point I heard the groomer (lady) yell, "HOLD ON!" and then "I told you to shut up!" At which point I realized she wasn't yelling at me, but a dog in the back. Still - not cool to treat the animals that way, especially when there is a possibility of a customer being in the lobby. My dog was also acting very weird - I feel so bad for actually leaving him for his hair cut because he was NOT comfortable at all being in that store. I just chalked it up to his first hair cut - but he LOVES going to the vet, and they give him shots, clip his nails etc. So there was definitely something off about this groomer and dogs can sense it. FINALLY 45 minutes after my drop off time, someone walked to the front and didn't even acknowledge that they are 45 minutes late. They looked at the dog, asked what I wanted, and took him in back.
For some reason I left him there - and when I came to pick him up, they informed me that he got excited and jerked his foot and they cut off his pad on one toe. He bled for a few days, but fortunately it didn't seem to bother him too much pain-wise. Still, that's unacceptable, and they didn't even offer to lower the price for their mistake.
In hindsight I should have spoke up, demanded they reduce my price, or something - but I'm just not good at that. All I can do is give them the proper review, and not return.
Response from Pampered Pet
"Dear (Member name removed), I just joined Angie's List a month ago and was very sad and disappointed to read your review. I wish you had asked to speak with the owner, and discussed your concerns, with one of them directly. We value all of our customers, and although occasionally we may be in the back drying or bathing, it is not acceptable for you to have to wait more than a few minutes. While injuries can happen while grooming, I do not have a record of an injury such as what you report on file. This is definitely a very rare occurrence. In fact, I do not locate a record for you or your animal. It is possible that your information did not get entered into the computer as it should have. May I ask what breed of dog Landon was? I know that it is now way past the time that this happened, and I just wanted to respond directly to you. I am very sorry for your disappointing visit. Best to you, Nada"

I brought my elderly cat in for a "lion cut".  In spite of his crankiness, they managed to shave him down, trim his nails and return him to me fresh as a daisy.  He wasn't too thrilled with the situation while he was there, but seems pretty perky now.  He certainly likes all the attention he is getting now, and he will be a lot cooler through this heat wave.

I called on Tuesday, and got in on Wednesday morning. The gentleman that took care of Montana was GREAT!!! Montana was treated like a KING!!! I dropped him off at 8:30 am, and he was home before noon. Montana looked and smelled so wonderful. The service was prompt and I will definitely return to Pampered Pet in the future.

I was very pleased in that they had me come in immediately upon my call and though it was after hours and I was late, they/he was very polite and professional. I had 3 cats in need of nail trim and fake protective nails which I had purchased elsewhere, placed over their front paws. Though he had never done it before he did an excellent job and I have returned for additional services as a result. I feel the price charged was very reasonable.
