Our dishwasher quit working the week before Thanksgiving. We called Baker's Appliance (618-532-8437) in Centralia, Illinois. We have had them fix appliances for us over the past few years. I sent a fax (618-533-0417)|emailed ([email protected]) outlining our predicament -- they worked us in within a few days and showed up when they said they would. The repairman (Tyler) was very nice. He was very knowledgeable and it wasn't very long that he knew what the problem was and had it fixed. As I mentioned earlier, we have used Baker's Appliance for appliance repairs in the past. In each case, we were pleased with the work they performed and the price we were charged. Although I am hopeful that we will not have to call them anytime soon, should we need to have another appliance repaired, they will be the only ones we call. I'm surprised to see negative reviews as our experience with them over the past has been fantastic!

I used my dishwasher last week and it worked fine. After I received a letter from GE recalling our dishwasher, I stopped using it. I called the toll free # provided 1-866-918-8760 and was referred to Baker Appliance in Centralia. They came 8/15/13 and fixed the recall, but when they were finished our dishwasher no longer worked. The repair man claimed that it was already broken, but we used it until we received the recall letter. He asked my husband about it and my husband told him although it didn't clean as good as we would have liked, it worked until the repair man touched it. He said he could come back & fix it, but we would have to pay for parts and labor. I do not feel that we should have to pay this considering he broke it.

"We are an authorized GE servicer (also authorized for all major brands, Whirlpool, Electrolux, Samsung, etc.) and have been for 25 years. Our technician’s are NASTEC and GCAP certified. We have no complaints in 25 years against us from the BBB or the Attorney General. We were contacted by GE to perform a recall on the dishwasher listed. The recall is to replace the heat element in bottom of dishwasher tub, and covers ONLY that service. Upon installing heater found multiple dried food stains in unit indicating it had not been used in weeks , also found dead and alive roaches in unit. Tried to run unit for operational test, would not come on. Ask Mr. if breaker was off, he stated no. Ask Mr. when was last time used he stated “not used for a long time because does not really work” . Inspected dishwasher to locate no power issue - at no charge to customer - found broken door switch housing, door/interlock/safety switch out of place and plunger missing. All of these parts are located in top of unit console/control panel. Recall part is not located anywhere near this area and we did not disassemble console to perform recall. The switches break hot and neutral both to the dishwasher, with switch out of place and the plunger that actuates switches when door is closed missing, unit could not have run or even powered up. Customer could not have been using unit in this condition with parts missing. Advise customer that recall would not cover any further repair, Mr. customer THEN stated that wife had used it last week. She called GE customer service and was told recall would not cover additional parts or labor and that GE would not have worked on it at all with bugs in it. We did not cause failure to the dishwasher by installing heat element and will not repair it free of charge. You have posted a complaint that is undocumented and not proven. We have a signed service order by customer stating approval of repair. Unit can be repaired at customers expense. Angie’s List does not have my permission to use our business name in any magazines or publications."

Response from BAKER APPLIANCE REPAIR
"I do not have record of working on (removed member name) washer in 2008. I show a washer repair in 2004 for a total of $60.00 labor and 2 no charge parts covered by the Maytag company and a note to inform customer of proper electric supply to washer. A dishwasher repair in 2004, a dryer repair in 2004, a refrigerator repair in 2009. No complaints were received from the customer and should not be listed on here for service 4 years ago."

Our dryer quit working on Thursday, 7/7 on the first day I was out of town for a week long business trip.  When my wife called and told me, we agreed that she should call Baker's Appliance in Centralia.  We have had them fix appliances for us in the past few years, including our refrigerator and our washer.  My wife called on Friday, and an appointment was made for the service tech to come over between 10 and Noon on Tuesday, 7/12.  Although he did not make it until close to Noon, he was able to quickly identify the problem as a faulty thermostat.  He had the part with him, and was able to make the repair without any difficulty.  We also appreciated that he accepted a post dated check for the repairs, as I was not scheduled to get my next direct deposit from my work until Friday, 7/15.

As I mentioned earlier, we have used Baker's Appliance for repairs to our refrigerator and our washer.  In each case, we were pleased with the technician, the work they performed, and the price we were charged.  Although I am hopeful that we will not have to call them anytime soon, should we need to have another appliance repaired, they will be the only ones we call.
