"They are the nicest couple, we sat down and discussed what they wanted and I wanted to make that happen for them. She went and picked out the items she wanted and gave me the numbers, she took before, during and after pictures and gave them to me. Some of the days I couldn't be there due to unforeseen circumstances they were both very understanding. It was my pleasure to work with them and look forward to our future friendship. I hope they understand I am unable to use their names in this section. Happy Thanksgiving & Merry Christmas!!!!"
"Working for this couple was my pleasure, they told me what they wanted as an end result and I hope that I fulfilled that vision. I felt that I had their support in all aspects of the project. Great people!!"
"Thank you for the great review, it was our pleasure to complete the work you wanted."
"Thank you, so glad everything turned out as you had hoped it would."
"You are welcome,"
"Thank you for the great review, and thanks for bearing with me through my health issues. It was great to meet you both. If you have any problems, don't hesitate to call"
"I am shocked to say the least at the overall grade my company was given by this customer. She supplied some items and I did everything she asked for plus more. At the end of the job I inquired if everything was as she wanted and she advised me everything was fine. If she had a problem she should have contacted me and I would have returned to correct anything she was unhappy with. If you are not told, there is no way I would have known she was unhappy, my guys even assisted her with pickup and delivery of furniture she had purchased and had no way of getting to her home."
"David A Walker, Thank you for the great review, I am so happy I could help with the problems they left you. Jesse Johnson"
"It was a great working for you and your wife, hope she enjoys the deck"
"Thank you, it was nice knowing we could help you out."
I would recommend Jesse and his crew. I would only caution you to be very specific on what you want. I only list my complaints so that the next people who use Johnson Construction will know what to look for. I'm not trying to steer anyone away from them. We wanted our can lights staggered between the columns in the theater ceiling and they are not. They're a little random.Jesse built these great built-in bunkbeds but the ladder is difficult to use. Also, it may be because our project look a lot longer than we first thought but the finishing was rushed and not complete. Our paint wasn't touched up, the grout on the tile wasn't scrubbed on one of the floors, no drain plug, no caulking on some of the trim work, etc. We had a doorway made into an arch and it was very rough and messy looking and I had to have that sanded down and repainted. He used flat white paint on all the doors and trim which doesn't work for me because I have five kids. They looked filthy within a couple weeks. (Maybe I should wash my kids?) I had to pay a painter to come and repaint it all with a better satin/semigloss paint. Some of the work was never completed which I think fell between the cracks of Jesse and his carpenter (Whom is also excellent - I love my cabinets!!). I probably could have complained and brought them back over and over but I knew they were done with this project and i'm kind of a wus. I felt like I was hurting Jesse's feelings if I asked for things to be done over and over. So a lot of that is my fault and some of it is their fault for not doing it right in the first place.
"It was a pleasure working for the [members name removed]. After reading the review, I really wish I had been contacted regarding the paint, grout and caulk. These are things I would have returned and corrected. The unfinished bar that the cabinet maker worked on, I had no part in this, he should have been contacted to return and finish his project. There was no need to contact a painter when I could have corrected all the above, this would not have been hurting my feelings as that is what you hired me to do."
by on a Saturday morning and took measurements and necessary info. I was contacted in a week or so with the estimate for the
work. I agreed to the price which I felt was reasonable and in line with another bid I had gotten. They told me it should be a day or
day and a half job and he would work it in while doing big jobs. And he does have some really BIG jobs!
Three of his crew arrived this morning at 8:30 and got right to work. The job turned out to be more than expected. The perimeter of
the carport was lined in concrete blocks. An asphalt company I had hired to replace some black top knocked the blocks loose and
the carport had started sagging. The asphalt company was suppose to come back the following week and repair it and they did not
show. That was last spring, 2012. It had remained in disrepair for over a year.
Today Johnson Construction removed two rows of concrete blocks, had to cut the asphalt and realign the bottom row. They then
filled the bottom row with concrete, tuckpointed them where necessary, put an aluminum wrapped 2x6(?) on the top of the reconstructed bottom row of blocks, elevated the roof of the carport as it had dropped an inch and a half from the damaged blocks. I then had them put vinyl deck railing on that. It was 36" high and I was afraid it would be too high and "look funny". Boy was I wrong ! Jesse assured me it would look good. He knows his stuff, it looks great!!
It has actually added outdoor living space. I am going to use part of it for a patio area and still have room to put the car in at night.
I highly recommend them. They are a neat, clean, professional crew that really knows what they are doing. They were meticulous
with their work, measuring and leveling everything. Nothing slipshod about them!!
Thank you Jesse, crew members, Penny and you too Angie's List.
"I just wanted to thank [member name removed] for such a nice review. It was a pleasure doing her job. I am pleased to know she is satisfied with the work and will be using the area for pleasure. Again Thank you Jesse Johnson/Johnson Construction"
The project went a little above the estimated cost due to an additional request by us. We felt that that the extra cost was high for our request alone but, again for the quality he gave we went ahead and paid that amount without any discussion as we are very satisfied with his work. We highly recommend him and would hire him on our future projects.
Although this project was a major renovation, my wife and I were able to live in the house during the project. The team cleaned up all refuse at the end of day, ensured work was completed so water and sewer facilities were usable each night.
Mr. Johnson has been operating his construction business for 26 years. Only a skilled craftsman and a honest man could be so successful. He and his team are skillful in their own right, but he employs skillful and capable sub-contractors at the same skill level. The plastering and masons are examples.
The Johnson Construction Team are honest and skillful craftsmen dedicated to do the job right.
"The members were a pleasure to work with. I was confident upon the member hiring me that I would be able to complete his project without any complications and be able to know that his fear of hiring contractors that don't complete the work would be erased. It was a great pleasure to work for such fantastic people and make their dreams they wanted for years to come true. Jesse Johnson/Johnson Construction"
I called Jesse after getting a couple very discouraging bids on my wife's dream remodel project, fully expecting him to confirm what the others quoted; however, Jesse surprised me in every way. The first thing that struck me was his immediate response, he called the very same day that I sent him an email....which may not be that surprising, but it was on a Sunday....and not just any Sunday, but the day before we were supposed to get the "Great Ice Storm of 2011". So while most people were out buying generators, gasoline, and rock salt...Jesse drove to my hous, that very same night, to bid on the job. The first thing that struck me was demeanor; he was polite, knowledgeable, and patient. The next thing that struck me, was how radical his design was from the other contractors. While the other two contractors bid the main floor with an exposed beam, Jesse suggested that we do a "hidden beam", so that it would appear that the original 1960s house was built to have an open floor plan (just like the newer houses of today). The last, and most important thing that shocked me that night, was that he bid the job at HALF the cost of the other contractors...PLUS he threw in the demo of the soffit, the creation of the half wall, and plaster finishing (including the coped ceilings). THEN he said he would be completely done in 5 days...I was about ready to call BS, but then I saw the look in my wife's eyes...this was everything she wanted AND for a price that would make it feasible for us to get a decent return on investment (which is what I wanted). I played it cool, and thanked him for his time...thinking it was too good to be true, and fearing I would become a shining example of "getting what I paid for". I checked him out on Angie's list and BBB, since he had a stellar record; I called him up to sign a contract. He had to special order the Laminate beams, so he asked that I pay half upfront; this being my first time at hiring a contractor (and giving a stranger $3,500), I asked him to sign a supplemental contract that my lawyer prepared....he had no problems accommodating me. At that time, we discussed his load calculations on the header beams to ensure we had the proper design for the required support. He stated, that based upon the product specs and the structural engineer's recommendations, I only needed two 2" x 11" x 16' laminated beams married together; however based upon my concerns, he doubled the order to four beams AND he didn't change his original bided price.
The day finally came for the job, and the only prep work I had to do, was remove all the electrical wires from the walls that were going to be demo'd. He showed up on time with one of his guys (Phil), and the two started work immediately. By the end of the first day they had removed the basement wall and installed the header beam.
On Day 2, they showed up on time again, and installed the two 32' beams in the attic using simple, hand crafted joist hangers (that provided more support than any pre-fab units available). The cool thing about this, is that because he wanted to maximize the strength of the beam, he decided not to cut the beams in half (to make it easier to get them up in the roof from the inside); instead he ingeniously pulled off the siding on my eve, cut a hole big enough for a man, then slid the beam right into the attic. He, of course, patched the hole and replaced the siding when he was done; but keep in mind, it was really cold out the week of February 21st to be working in an attic with a big hole in the attic.
On the 3rd day, they demo'd the upstairs wall and soffit, then constructed the half wall surrounding the stairwell. As you can imagine, cutting out 40 year plaster made quite the mess, but they cleaned everything up...and I mean everything; Jesse finished the day, by mopping the entire hard wood floor on his hands and knees with a bucket and a sponge.
Day 4 came with more finishing work and cleaning; he left the house ready for the plasterers to come in and start work the next day.
The last day of the project, his sub-contractors for the plaster work showed up (Johnson & Sons Plastering Inc.). These guys were amazing, not only were they able to match the pattern of my very elaborate and ornate plaster, but they also perfectly matched the plaster coping that runs throughout the room and extended it into the newly joined room. During the course of the day, Jesse and his wife showed up to check on the progress...even though there was nothing left for him to do. They were great to talk to, but what amazed me the most about the whole process, was the overwhelming sense of pride he had in the quality of his work. There was nothing specifically spoken, but instead it was the smile he had on his face, that made me realize that even after 25 years of doing this job, he still loves what he does. Nothing alleviates that sickening feeling in your stomach of ?Buyer?s Remorse?, than seeing the service provider so very proud, of what he provided to you.
I have since recommended him to many of my friends and neighbors, which is saying something because I never vouch for anyone...not even family. I can honestly say that I will happily use his services again.
Jesse, if you read this...thank you again for giving my wife the house she wanted, without forcing us to move ( and taking a bath in this buyers market).
