We've had good service from them. We've been using them for about 10 years. We have them come twice a year. We are on their preferred maintenance program. They are very efficient and their quality of service is excellent as well. They are prompt and efficient. They don't try to sell you something you don't need.

When I contacted them I wanted a 9am appointment.  They informed me of a two hour windows only.  So I went with a 8 am / 10 am appt.  I received two letters welcoming me and thanking me for the opportunity, all confirming the 8-10am appt.  Plus I got a call the previous day confirming the 8-10am appt.  When I called at 10:40 am to cancel that day, they said the appt was from 11-1pm.  Just bad...IMO.

A different serviceman came out for this air conditioner call.  He told me, and I have this in writing, that a mouse got into the unit and fried the compressor, and that the air conditioner could not be fixed.  It would have to be replaced.  He offered to show me the dead mouse, which I declined.  He did not give a quote.  For that, they send a salesman out who wants to meet "with all the decision makers."  We made the appointment, and Dwight gave us a detailed presentation.  I am not enthusiastic about companies that have separate salesmen.  Yes, they are good at communicating and explaining, but I think their prices are higher, and I don't like to "be sold".  Anyway, the cost was high, and we decided to make it through the summer with fans.  A year later (spring 2011) I decided to call out somebody else that was recommended by a friend.  Am I ever glad I did!  I told the new man the story, and he immediately questioned it.  He said the compressor is a sealed unit and he didn't know any way a mouse could even get inside it.  He took a look and came back with the news that the capacitor was dead, not the condenser, and that he could replace it.  In the end, it cost me $150 for a new capacitor and some freon, and my air conditioner was working fine within an hour and has worked fine ever since.  He did caution me that the unit is 20 years old and it might not hold up long term.  As he put it, we might get 2 years, we might get 5 or 10 or possibly more.  But Chappel did not give me the option to repair.  Their diagnosis was wrong, and it would have cost us thousands more to replace a unit that was repairable.

If you are looking for top quality work and are able to tolerate minor irritants of not being able to get a hold of them all the time, I highly recommend them. We had top of the line units put in to replace our upstairs heating and A/C system. Their price was competitive, if not the best of our estimates. There was one minor glitch in the middle of the job where the A/C had been disabled and they said they would not be returning to the job for another couple days. We had a 3 month old child at the time and it was sweltering in the nursery. It took quite a bit of persuasion, but they were able to come out sooner and get the cooling going again. In addition, they were going to do additional aesthetic work on some furnace piping that was incorrectly installed by another company several years ago. The technician was going to look around to see if he could find the shingle that was on my roof so that he could patch the job. This was above and beyond what they had signed on for but would have been very nice to get done. Unfortunately, after calling for two weeks without ever hearing back from him, it turns out he couldn't find the shingle necessary. I have no problem with the fact that he couldn't do what he hoped. My big complaint was that he wouldn't get back to me to let me know. I am now contacting them again for another job but their availability is poor. They told me they are booked for a couple of months. All that said, I honestly felt the work that they performed is absolutely top notch. That is hard to find these days. They do very high quality work the way it is supposed to be done the first time at a reasonable cost. If you can get a hold of them, if you can get them to call you back, you will get excellent quality work.

After researching the benefits of sealing leaks in our 39-year old home, I went to Chappels for their opinion on how our system could be improved. Our house was prone to being extremely hot in the summer, and some rooms extremely cold in the winter. They performed the blower-door test and provided me with a detailed report showing how our house compared to the averages. They then provided a detailed estimate showing what I could have done to the house, and which items would be more effective than others. (i.e. duct sealing, leak sealing, etc.) I asked about a heat pump, which they included on my request, but also told me reasons they did not recommend it. We scheduled the work, and within two weeks (and over two days) they had completed the job flawlessly. Our house is now far more comfortable than it was when we first moved in, and our heating and cooling bills have dropped to my satisfaction (about 25%, if I had to give an estimate.)

I called after hours (Friday night). A technician called back within an hour. He spoke to me at length on the phone, asking questions about the problem and giving ideas. He offered to come out that evening or the next morning. I chose Saturday morning at 9. He arrived on time and worked until he diagnosed the problem. He gave me options and recommendations and showed me what he was talking about, tried to answer all of my questions. I had to pay an overtime rate, but this had been clearly spelled out before he came out. I had him perform the work, and the A/C works well again, despite the unit being old and probably in need of replacement before long.

They were very nice. The service man made sure he covered his feet when entering the house. He was efficient and quick. The house was cooled down 2 hours after he was finished. We also purchased a service plan, and they will call us every spring and fall the next 3 years to service our air or heating respectively.

GREAT JOB BY CHAPPELS. THE DAY THEY CAME OVER, THE POWER WAS OUT AND THEY WERE UNABLE TO START WORK. THEY CAME BY FIRST THING THE NEXT DAY, FINISHED THE WORK QUICKLY, AND ONLY CHARGED US FOR THE ONE SERVICE CALL. WORK WAS DONE WELL, AND THE TECHNICIAN GAVE US GOOD ADVICE ON THE SYSTEM IN OUR HOUSE.
