We have a Samsung 60 inch TV that hasn't been working for a very long time.  We originally contacted Samsung but they wanted to charge us way too much for repairs.  At the time I wasn't an Angie's list member either.  Last week we decided to try Barrett's and I'm so thankful we did!!!  My husband called and explained what the problem was.  From his description, they ordered the parts and said once they came in they would call to schedule an appointment to fix the TV.  Craig, our technician came to our house today and repaired the TV for $394.89.  Originally was told it would cost $550.  Craig said we didn't need some of the parts.  What?  An honest repairman?  No way!  Well, way!  He could have easily charged us the $550.  I highly recommend Barrett's not only for their honest business practices but our TV is working great!!!

Excellent Service!!! Our 2 year old plasma TV died (the black screen of death). Luckily we had purchased an extended warranty with the TV so this repair was covered under warranty. I called Barrett's on a Tuesday and they came out the next morning (Wednesday) to pickup the TV for repair. The TV is rather large and heavy. They carefully loaded it onto the truck, protected it with moving blankets and strapped it in to keep it secure. I received a call the next day (Thursday) and was told that the TV was repaired, so I scheduled delivery for the next day. They came out early on Friday, setup the TV and made sure that everything was working properly. I don't know the actual cost of repair since it was covered under warranty, but I understand that they had to replace one of the circuit boards. We are very happy with Barrett's service and will definitely use them again in the future. They are friendly, prompt and provide a quick turnaround. Thanks Barrett's!!!

I am having some problems with my 20 year old Mitsubishi TV. The first I have ever had. So I checked the list for TV repair shops near my home. I read the reviews and liked what I read about Barrett's so I gave them a call and explained the problems I was having and they told me that a technician would call me. Craig from Barrett's called and said he would be at my home betwee1pm and 3pm the next day. He arrived just a couple of minutes before 1pm. He was very pleasant to talk with and listened closely while I explained the problems that were occurring with my TV. He checked things over and confirmed what the problems were. He then proceeded to explain what was causing the problems with the TV. He had to take the circuit boards out of the TV and take them back to their shop for repair. He said it might take as much as 2 weeks to complete the repairs, based on the amount of work they currently had in their shop. I asked him for an estimate of the cost, which he provided, and I told him to do the work. He said they would try to get the circuit boards back to me in less than 2 weeks. Since the TV was in my family room he helped me move one of the other TV's we have into the family room as a temporary replacement while we wait for the repairs to be completed. I'll add more info about the repairs once they are completed.

Although Barretts did tell me up front that there would be a $95 service charge, it didn't occur to me at the time I ordered service that this meant 'just to show up on your doorstep'. Then the hourly charge kicks in. I think that is excessive for just showing up to one's door front. But it's my fault for not better understanding what that 'service charge' meant. I will think hard next time I need service whether I feel that the service charge is warranted. In any case, the technician was professional, put plastic booties over his shoes upon entering my home, which I really appreciate from a service provider, and spent time examining the antenna and all the wiring that he could reasonably access. Although I still have some difficulty with some station reception (I live in Lombard and channel 7 is particularly difficult to get a steady signal from), the reception is much better.

When he arrived at my house, the technician said he could not install the aerial outside because the the roof was too high and steep. (No one asked me about that when I set up the appointment.) The echnician suggested installing the aerial in my attic, which was a good idea. My main reservation about the total service experience is that the quoted price was $400, but after completing the work, the technician said it would be $475 because something extra was required. I objected and the technician phoned the boss, discussed the matter, and said the boss approved the $400 charge. It would have been more professional if the boss had warned me about possible problems that could increase the charge. I'm glad he stood by his word on the charge, but I think the boss and the technician should have their signals straight about charges or I should have been given a range of fees when I called in the first place.

Our Sony TV is over 9 years old and we never had a problem with it. We could not get a picture. Called Barretts on 8/16/13 to set up a service call. They called back same day and scheduled a service call for 8/19. Service man called at 9:00 am to tell us he would be there between 10am and 11am. He arrived by 10:15am. Told us up from what the cost would be to replace a chip. Said if it were the mother board, Sony no longer makes it or repairs it and we would have to buy a new TV. Thank goodness the replacement chip solved the problem and we can keep our TV , which we love, a few more years. The serviceman was very professional and completed the job within an hour. We will definitely call Barretts again.

My 5 year old Toshiba DLP TV was having great difficulty starting - the lamp was having more and more trouble firing on initial startup. When it reached the point that it fired up only once in about 20 tries, I ordered a new bulb from ShopJimmy.com. The existing bulb was only 9 months old and should have still been good, but replacing it seemed like a decent bet. The new bulb arrived and it didn't fire up once in very many tries. This didn't really surprise me since the old one was hardly firing either. I figured that whatever was failing had finally failed. I called Barretts and Craig came over the next working day. I expected that he would replace the ballast.
Craig tried starting, no luck. He put the old bulb back in and, lo and behold, it fired on the second or third try. He pronounced the new bulb from ShopJimmy dead on arrival and advised me to get a refund. He then said that although it could be a failing ballast, he saw a little scorch mark on the old bulb and said that we should try a new bulb from Toshiba first before attempting to replace the ballast. He emphasized that I should buy it from Toshiba and get an OEM lamp. He said if that didn't work he would come back to do the ballast without another service call charge, only labor and the part. He then gave us a lot of good advice on buying a new TV. I definitely felt his visit was worth the $95 service charge for the call.
I obtained a new lamp from ToshibaDirect.com. Surprisingly, it was no more expensive than the bulb from ShopJimmy, a little cheaper even. It has fired up on the first try every time. Craig was right - make sure you're working with a good bulb before doing the more serious stuff. ShopJimmy, by the way, is refunding my money and paid for the return shipping.

Barrett's did a terrific job. They showed up on time, the two workers were cheerful and enthusiastic about their work, and they worked independently on the installation until it was complete. They then connected cable to my TVs and programmed all the channels. They showed me how everything worked and left the property clean and in great condition. They were a pleasure to work with.

I called and explained what I wanted and Barrett's knew what I needed and was able and willing to remove my old (non working) antenna, install a new one, and run the wires for the placement of a new TV. I set up an appointment and on the day of the appointment, Ben and Arron called when they were en route to my home. They did the work, were polite, cleaned up after themselves, and made sure the antenna/TV was working correctly. I'd recommend Barrett's TV Service.

When the tv's were up and running I was surprised at how many channel options there actually were. The team was able to adjust the antenna allowing me to pick up around 60 free television channels. With cable tv you had to pay extra for HD channels, I was pleasantly surprised when I saw that all the standard channels were in HD and looked amazing, better then they did with the cable boxes.
From start to finish I was extremely satisfied with the service and product I was received from Barrett's.

We were able to schedule an appointment that was convenient for us, and the technician was on time. We have used Barretts before and one of the things that has always impressed me is that the technicians will take the time to clearly explain what the problem is and what the cause was.

My experience with them was very positive. The technician was very nice; he was very friendly. The guy was great. He cleaned out and did stuff he didn't necessarily have to do. He gave me some tips on future maintenance that I should probably look at and other things I should do. He really went above and beyond. He said he'd be there between 2:00 and 4:00 and he got there at 3:50, so technically he was punctual.

The Technician arrived on time and efficiently and quickly replaced the bulb. He reset all indicators and insured that the TV was back in perfect operating condition before he left. The trip charge was waived as the TV was still under warranty, though the bulb was not covered. This was not an issue with Barrett's as they were just the company accomplishing the warranty work.

They were going to install the antenna on the roof but due to our preference not to put one on the roof they took their time and ran everything in the attic. they used a cable line which I did not need and was able to use that one line to get into areas of the attic which we can't get into now after construction 6 years later. Very nice job and two men worked well together to get the job done right away. I paid with a credit card but could have paid with a check or of course cash.

In short I could not be more pleased. The next day, Alex (antenna service dept mgr) called and quoted me a reasonable price and set an appointment for less than a week. He and his assistant showed up on time and were friendly, professional, courteous and knowledgeable throughout the one-hour installation time. After checking the antenna alignment with a signal meter, all five sets were checked and found to receive an improved picture quality. Alex even installed new grounding straps and rod. They cleaned up all debris. This is an excellent company with whom to do business.

It went very well. We're very appreciative that John and his co-worker found the problem with the antenna. We'd rather know and fix it, than to believe that it's the reception in our area. Our antenna was completely shot, and needed to be replaced. That being said, the cost combined was $561.61, which is $186.61 above Alex's quote when we set up our first appointment. Per Alex, it would NOT have been, including a new antenna and all that goes with a new antenna, more than $375.00. So I am disappointed in the discrepancy.

They made everything functional. The best TV picture in 15 years! Found the problems & solved them. Stayed with me until I felt secure enough to do the basics on the new digital DVD/VHS. Exceptional service. Thank you! Beautiful! Clear! Sharp! No more snow! And the service man actually taught me how to do the basics of the new DVD/VHS unit.
