Alberto and I agreed to $2.50 installation per square yard (a fair market price). We provided the padding and the carpet. Installation went fine.
Then Alberto mailed us a bill for double the yardage. I showed him the measurements and the delivered carpet and padding. He insisted we made a mistake. He then hired an attorney to get paid double. I forwarded the drawings and the calculations to the attorney. She never contacted us again.
MORAL OF THE STORY: measure and take the time to do the calculations yourself. Most service providers bet that you will be too lazy to catch the scam. Most clients never even know they are getting scammed. Especially if the service provider is threatening you - stand up for yourself. It's a common problem with service providers.

"Shame on you [member name removed] for posting a review just because you did not want to pay for my installation. I measured accurately and shared the costs up front. You are just another consumer trying to get something for nothing. You forgot to share in your feedback that after I completed my work you wanted to offer me a few hundred dollars for my installation. Yes, I sued...nobody works for free and apparently you felt you had the right to haggle my price after the work was completed. Any concerns regarding my measurements should have been brought up before the work was completed."
