Do not hire this guy!

We hired him from a referral (one who we later found out, never worked with him).  He had that contract on our table in 1 day and we foolishly signed it thinking he was honest and forthright.  FIVE months later, he finally broke ground on our addition/remodel.  He first got up front cash from our bank loan and then probably paid previous unfinished jobs off with our cash.
It's been downhill ever since.  He promised us a crew of his best people.  He has no people.  He hires them as he goes along.  Interestingly, every sub that he hired for this job, has never worked for him before.  Within days of working on this project, most of them just walk off the site in disgust.  Seems he takes the money from the bank draw and fails to pay the subs.  They in turn, knock on our door for their money.  It has been a nightmare!
Even though we paid him an additional $15000 per month (beyond that of the bank loan withdrawals), he never has supplies here on the site for the subs, delaying the process of completion.  So far we are over budget by $200,000 and we aren't even half way done.  Did I mention that this is in process for over a year?  He no longer returns our calls, answers our emails or answers the dozens of texts that we have sent him.
Having done my research way too late on this guy, it turns out that of his past customers have the same complaints. I did a search on him and found reviews that were written by former customers and each of them were identical.  One guy even said "For God's sake, please don't get involved with him".  Incidentally, he has two aliases we are aware of, Steven Coen and "Remodeling Steve."  He also has another company name: Total Windows Concepts and yet another company called Total Concepts.
We are in the process of investigating discrepancies in his past.
We were forced to hire an attorney.  We are in the process of  pressing charges against him and his companies and aliases.  He is unethical, unprofessional and simply put - a thief!  This is a bad guy and this experience has been a nightmare that we wouldn't wish on ANYONE!!!  Furthermore, we now have to come up with additional funds to hire a reputable builder to complete our home, funds which we already paid to him and that are now missing.
In addition to all that his workmanship is shoddy at best and he uses only inferior products that he salvages from different internet sites.  He has become the scourge of our community by way of word of mouth from the subs working on our as yet incomplete home.
