Description of Work: John Marshall Construction (JMC) originally built our house. We have since remodeled the major bathroom, kitchen, and some other spaces and would not consider using any company other than JMC becasue he has earned our complete trust with his honesty, quality of work, and unwavering intent to do the best job possible and satisfy every customer. Not only have we been completely satisfied with the original building of the house, but with all of the work subsequently done. Recently, he installed a tankless water heater and put a high tech material floor in the garage, both jobs executed exactly as planned.

As indicated above, the project ran very smoothly. Any construction problems were able to be dealt with immediately and to our satisfaction. JMC has a very talented crew who are able to deal with unplanned obstacles and come up with very workable and satisfactory solutions. We would not have any reservations and would welcome the opportunity to use JMC on any future projects we may have, to include building a new home.
Description of Work: Build Basement Rec Room. John Marshall Construction (JMC) designed the buildout and was the general contractor on the job. The design was terrific, the JMC staff and their subcontractors performed very professionally. We were able to make design changes while the buildout was in progress. The JMC foreman kept us abreast of each phase of the construction and at no time did we feel that we did not know what was happening. The entire project ran approximately 4 months and came in on budget. The end result is we now have a terrific new room in our home of which all our neighbors are envious.

Immediately after buying a large and expensive house we began having a variety of problems with the it. We were referred to John Marshall Construction (JMC) because of their reputation as a "rescue" contractor and because of their reputation for honesty and superior workmanship. We were not disappointed. After making several strategic openings in the house drywall, we realized that the problems were quite bad. We ultimately removed all the drywall and found that in building the house, the previous builder/owner had used sub-code electrical wiring and plumbing and that there were over 2 dozen areas that were inadequately supported. We gutted the house to the frame and basically rebuilt the entire house. While rebuilding, JMC had to deal with the structural problems of the original house, many of which were only discovered as the rebuilding process went forward. Yet, with every new discovery, JMC was able to offer a solution so that in the end this house is now very well built. JMC's work is of the highest quality. We were impressed with their level of knowledge in all aspects of the project. Everyone associated with the company, from the owner to the cleanup crew is so conscientious and shows real pride in their work. We developed complete confidence in them and could not imagine working with a better company. Their care extends to the fact that there was a foreman on the job daily from the start. He was intimately involved in every aspect of the project, including all subcontractor work. He made sure that all work was done to his exacting standards. Subcontractors chosen by JMC were of excellent quality. Communication was excellent between the foreman, subcontractors, architects and ourselves, mainly because of JMC. We had weekly meetings with all concerned, including the owner of the company, John Marshall himself. He was completely involved in all decision making in the project and offered much by way of his expertise and experience. He also cared enough to come out on his own one frozen winter Sunday, just to make sure everything was all right. We currently have an ongoing maintenance contract with JMC and the foreman is a quick phone call away if I have any questions or concerns. He is more than willing to come to the house to look over any problem that might arise. He will meet with electricians, heating and cooing companies, whatever is needed as necessary periodic maintenance. It is a very reassuring thing to know that JMC is not only there while the work is being done, but that they stand behind their work on an ongoing basis and are always available. We are now working with them again on a smaller project for an outbuilding on the property. This house could have been our greatest nightmare, but we consider ourselves so fortunate to have been referred to John Marshall Construction. Because of their expertise our house is beautiful as well as beautifully built. We highly recommend this construction company.

IT WAS A HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE. THE WORK DONE BY HIS ELECTRICIAN AND PLUMBER COULDN'T EVEN PASS INSPECTION. THEY NEVER FINISHED THE JOB, BUT HE THINKS THE JOB IS FINISHED. THEY HAVE POOR COMMUNICATION WITHIN THEIR ORGANIZATION. THEY OVER BILL AND HAVE "PHANTOM" CHARGES ON THE BILL. I WOULD DEFINITELY NOT RECOMMEND THEM TO ANYONE. THEY BILLED ME FOR WORK THAT WAS NOT PERFORMED AND FOR MATERIALS NOT PURCHASED OR USED. THEY DID NOT STICK TO THEIR ORIGINAL ESTIMATES. THEY HAVE TO BE WATCHED VERY CAREFULLY. MUCH OF THE WORK IS SLOPPY AND THEY THINK WOMEN ARE STUPID.

Response from JOHN MARSHALL CONSTRUCTION
JOHN MARSHALL CONSTRUCTION, INC. COMPLETED THE ABOVE REMODELING PROJECT TO THE CLIENT’S SATISFACTION AND RECEIVED APPROVAL BY THE BUILDING INSPECTOR. THE LAST DAY WE WORKED ON THE PROJECT TO FINISH THE WORK DETAILED ON THE PUNCH LIST, THE CLIENT STATED THAT THE WORK WAS COMPLETE TO HER SATISFACTION AND THERE WERE NO REMAINING PUNCH LIST ITEMS. WEEKS LATER, WE RECEIVED A LETTER FROM THE CLIENT NOTIFYING US THAT WE WERE BEING REMOVED FROM THE JOB AND SHE WAS REFUSING TO PAY THE FINAL BILL. WE IMMEDIATELY RESPONDED IN WRITING AND REQUESTED A MEETING TO DISCUSS AND RESOLVE ANY ITEMS THAT DID NOT MEET HER SATISFACTION. THE CLIENT NEVER REPLIED TO OUR LETTER NOR DID SHE REPLY TO THE SEVERAL PHONE MESSAGES WE LEFT ON HER VOICE MAIL. DURING THE COURSE OF THIS PROJECT, OUR COMPANY AND OUR SUBCONTRACTORS DID EVERYTHING POSSIBLE TO MEET THE CLIENT’S NEEDS AND EXPECTATIONS. THE SUBCONTRACTORS THAT WORKED ON THIS PROJECT HAVE WORKED WITH US FOR MANY YEARS AND RECEIVED CONSISTENT PRAISE AND COMMENDATIONS FROM OUR CLIENTS FOR THEIR SUPERIOR WORKMANSHIP AND PROFESSIONAL MANNER. WE NOTE THAT ON THIS WEBSITE, THE CLIENT ANSWERED "YES" TO "WAS THE WORK DONE"? AND "WOULD HIRE IN FUTURE"? AND YET SHE REFUSES TO REMIT PAYMENT FOR OUR FINAL BILLING.
