I hired Pierce to do the finish carpentry - hang doors and put on baseboard. They hung almost every door backward the first day, some swinging into closets (?), some opening so you would have to go around the door to turn on lights. This is especially frustrating since I took the time to write on each door frame how the door should be hung to avoid this issue. Each door was also pinched, so it couldn't close on its own. The baseboards provided were based on wall lengths, and I pointed this out to the carpenters ahead of time, and provided visuals. Instead of following those instructions, they cut pieces in the middle and joined them with a miter - then tried to tell me that there wasn't a piece of wood that I told them was there. Luckily, they hadn't used it yet, so I showed it to them and had them replace the work. All of my pocket doors were put on so incorrectly, and they did not drill pilot holes so they split the doors and a few weeks after they finished, the doors all fell off. Also, because of how they put the hardware on incorrectly, you can't reach the buttons you would normally use to release the doors. I have fixed most of this at this point, but there are still issues. I had them out here 4 times, and in the end, they said they just don't understand pocket doors. Essentially, I would say that they do not hire carpenters. The people that were used on my project were clearly dry wallers who they thought they could get away with using as carpenters. Though I was told this wasn't the case, how would actual carpenters have made all these mistakes, and yet be able to make a repair to a complicated drywall issue in moments. Do not use this company. The initial bid was fair, our middle bid, but they ended up charging more than their bid, even though they came out 3 times to estimate, the work is not up to par, and the frustrations are not worth it.

I called 5 contractors for estimates. One never showed up, one was horribly rude to me and tried to force me into hiring him, one was WAY over priced, and one was reasonably priced but did not write up a decent legally binding contract. Then there was John Pierce. He showed up promptly (on a Saturday!) to meet and take measurements, and took time to discuss options and choices that I did not even know I had! Although he did not want to give me a verbal ball-park cost estimate, his written estimate was worth the wait: it was three pages long, very descriptive, and the price came in close to the other contractor who wrote a very small paragraph. The crew was led by carpenters with 30 years of experience. The demolition and construction took longer than expected, but the crew did not get sloppy in an effort to hurry up and finish. After the porch was completed, neighbors raved about how great it looked. Several people asked for the contractor's name so that they could have similar work done.
Description of Work: Shored up roof of existing enclosed front porch. Demolished existing front porch structure and pier foundations. Built new open front porch under existing roof (approx 7' x 22' plan area). Also replaced siding adjacent to porch and installed new electric circuits for future fan and lights.

Very unprofessional.
Description of Work: I had an appointment with Jay for him to come and review a job and provide a quote. I stayed home from work that morning. He never showed up. I called his cell phone twice and left messages, he never returned my call.
