This is a follow-up report. Altho the initial work done by Royal Oaks was satisfactory, I am not at all pleased with follow-up due to a arbovitae that died approximately 6 weeks after installation. I called and Bob came out, check out the arbovitae (along with other annual plants and bushes that Royal He then replaced the arbovitae about a week later. As you know, last summer was extremely hot and I watered religiously, then was called out of town. When I returned, one part of the installation hadn't been watered and I called to see if they could come out to see if that particular installation would die. Then this spring, another of the 3 arbovitae that was planted died, and the second one was in its death throes. I e-mailed Royal Oaks, asked where they got their stock as I couldn't understand why they were dying, and the response I got was that it was my "incompentency" that caused the problem and then they sent me a bill for $100 for the first arbovitae that they replaced. I called and told them that any reputable landscaper warranties their products for at least 1 season and I would not pay. I was told in a later call that the charge was for Bob's time, but that was not listed on the statement. I thought the matter was over, but yesterday I received another bill for $100. And the second of the 3 arbovitae is now dead and the original replacement is dying. The last correspondence had with them, May 8, 2014, they said that they would replace the arbovitae and I am still waiting for contact. Trying to blame the customer, and telling untruths about the status of the plants is unacceptable for a reputable company. I DEFINITELY WOULD NOT USE THEM AGAIN AND WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THEM TO ANYONE. WORD OF MOUTH MEANS A LOT.!
"We are sorry she feels so strongly and we are at a loss on how to rectify the situation. Clearly in her detailed accounting she didn't water the plant causing the problem in the first place. We replaced the plant last year and heavily watered and fertilized everything because many plants were in serious distress because they were so dry (lack of water during the drought). As far as the problem this year with the other plant we can only assume the very hard winter may have contributed to the problem. Our May email stated we would come out, again, and replace the 3 plants and she should let us know when to come. We NEVER HEARD BACK FROM HER and now she states she doesn't want them replaced so I wonder what she wants? The $100 has already been credited."
Keith was very attentive to our every question and/or concern. He listened to us but also gave his input. In the end we got more than we could have ever expected. Of course you expect the owner of the company to be nice and professional but everyone that worked on the job was great. They respected my property and my neighbors. This was a big job for us and Keith was in constant communication with us. When we called he answered or returned our call right away.
In one instance they build a seat wall next to the fountain and when I arrived home I thought the wall was too tall in a certain area. I called Keith to ask him to stop by. Without me disclosing my concern about the seat wall, he seen it and started removing bricks. "This is too tall" he said. Everything is beautiful and we get so many compliments from everyone.
It's nice to come home and see all the beautiful updated landscaping. We finally moved from the 80's landscaping we had before.
His work crew was very conscientious to park in a way that our curved street, which gets school traffic in the morning and afternoon, was not blocked or hazardous. The workmen took care to not damage or disturb the plantings and grass that already was in place. They cleaned up daily.
The work was done in a timely fashion. Keith was always prompt to answer any follow up questions I had.
The plants seem to be a good size and very healthy. Royal Oaks did confirm that they are guaranteed for a year from installation. The areas around the plants were mulched and a bio stimulant was added to encourage their growth.
The patio and fire pit are beautiful. The pavers and blocks were as portrayed in the brochure. The design the pavers are laid in is very pleasing. The area around the edge of the patio was sodded. The whole area is very inviting.
Royal Oaks did honor the Angie's List coupon that I found online after I had contacted them.
We have been very pleased with this company and will continue using them.
Always good work.
Most of the areas that they worked on stll don't have grass growing. The pulverised top soil was thrown around along with the clumps of non-pulverizerd top soil. Top soil was applied to a lot of areas that didn't need it, so the good grass underneath died.
They came out a week after the initial visit and threw down more top soil on some areas - when in doubt lay down some top soil.
We just spent $600 to put in sod where the grass hasn't grown back.
