My husband promised me a new counter top in my kitchen to go with my soon to be resurface DATED kitchen cabinets. Coming home one day from running errands he saw Vermont Cabinetry Inc., Blue Island Illinois. He went in and met the owner Mike Walsh and scheduled an appointment for an estimate on a new countertop to match my soon to be resurfaced DATED kitchen cabinets. Mike took a look at my DATED countertop and agreed it needed to be replaced. He also took the initiative to explain the pros and cons of resurfacing DATED kitchen cabinets and a total new kitchen remodel. After his presentation of all the pros and cons of resurfacing DATED kitchen cabinets my husband and I were totally convinced that a new kitchen remodel was the best way to go. Mike suggested we move the kitchen sink into the corner of the kitchen. We also told Mike of sewer odors we smelled in and around the kitchen sink from time to time. He said it was possible we could have a busted pipe somewhere but would not know for sure until the wall was removed. I immediately canceled my contract for cabinet resurfacing and hired Vermont Cabinetry. Once the kitchen was gutted the crew found a hole in the pipe behind the kitchen wall just like Mike said which explain why for over 20 years we had to endure the smell of raw sewage throughout my entire house. Overall on a scale of 1-10 we give Vermont Cabinetry a 10. I highly recommend Vermont Cabinetry for your kitchen needs. We found his staff to be very professional and trustworthy.

The work, of course, took more than twice as long as was stated to us.  Final price was $3,000+ over the original estimate.  Holes were left in the flooring where the doorframes had been replaced (the company did come back to repair these).  One cabinet side was stained on the wrong side, circuit breaker kept popping, cabinet lighting flickered.  They came back to fix the flickering, then the lights "hummed".  Also, the wall switch was very warm to the touch.  At first glance, the work looks fine.... but don't look too closely and that buzzing sound is not in your head, it is in the lights, when they are turned off.

The cabinets are beautiful. They are of excellent workmanship. Mike did the work of an architect when it came to planning this kitchen and family room. He will tell you where he thinks the oven should go. We met three times. He came out and measured himself. He made up a model door for us to see before going ahead with the work. He wanted to be sure we were satisfied. They were finished at the promised time.
