Overall, this entire experience went horrible. The worst experience I have ever experienced from any contractor. The contractor (Neto) completely dragged his feet regarding these repairs, taking over 11 months to complete them, and furthermore, some of the repairs did not get done at all. In Neto?s first attempt to make any repairs, he came to the home in early November 2009 and removed the existing Pella door, framing, drywall, insulation, trim, etc. which were moldy and rotting due to the water damage caused by the leaking pipe above the door. Neto installed a "temporary" door that he had purchased from Menards and he informed me that the correct replacement door was being ordered from Pella, which is the brand of the original door that was removed. The door from Menards was only temporary because it did not fit properly in this space and it did not have the necessary aluminum cladding on the door frame that the prior door had for protection against the excessive moisture and humidity that occurs in the basement stairwell area of the home. Between November 2009 and July 2010, I had asked Neto to return to our home to complete the repairs on several occasions. He promised that he would return and I had taken days off of work to meet with him, but he simply did not show up. He claimed he would show up and then did not show up on at least 3 separate occasions. I also left Neto countless voicemails that he rarely returned. When Neto finally came to complete the repairs on July 29th, he informed me that the replacement Pella door was not ordered and that he was going to "make the temporary door work", complete the painting and be done with the project. As a result of the door not fitting properly, there was a 2-1/2 inch gap between the door threshold and the floor tile. Neto purchased an aluminum threshold from Menards and used a grinder to cut it in half. His plan was to screw this jagged and inappropriate threshold into this gap in order to "complete" the job and be done. I had allowed Neto to complete the painting, which was also done poorly, but stopped him from drilling his manipulated threshold into the concrete floor since it was not the right way to complete the repair and it would have put holes into the concrete floor. He also replaced the trim around the door on both the outside and the inside, which did not match the trim on the other doors in and outside of the home. Neto claimed that he could not locate the correct trim because the home builder used a "specialized" trim. However, I hired another contractor to complete the job properly and they had no problem finding the correct trim at a local lumber yard. I had also asked Neto when he was going to repair the flashing on the skylight and he told me that he was not authorized to repair it since it was not leaking. The reason why it may or may not have been leaking is because it was being held together with duct tape, which is not an acceptable means to fixing anything. Neto had also promised to deliver the screen door to the sliding back door adjacent to our kitchen. Supposedly this screen door had been ordered before we closed on the home and Neto never delivered it. In fact, when Neto finished his work on the basement door on July 29th, he informed me that he was going to pick up the screen door at his storage facility and deliver it to the home. Neto never returned to our home with the screen door. Later I learned that you cannot simply install any screen door since every sliding door is different and a screen door that is made for that door has to be used. The correct screen door that should have been ordered is a Pella screen door, but Neto ordered a different brand through Menards. So, even if Neto did deliver the screen door that he had supposedly ordered, it would not have worked or he would have rigged it up in a way to destroy the screen door and/or the sliding mechanism that it attaches to. I would never hire this contractor to do any work on my home...ever!!! The experience I went through dealing with this contractor was horrible.
Description of Work: This contractor was hired by the sellers of our home as a condition of us purchasing it. Upon the home inspection, we had learned that the kitchen sink drain pipe had a leak in it and the leak caused the basement door directly beneath it to become rotted in addition to the lumber around the door and behind the drywall becoming moldy and rotted. The basement door, lumber, drywall, and insulation all had to be replaced as a result of this leak and the sellers had agreed to pay for the work to be performed. The sellers had also agreed to replace the screen door on the back sliding glass door of our home due to the wife having walked into it and bending the track. There was also a a piece of metal flashing on our skylight that had to be replaced because it was ripped off in a wind storm, which the sellers also agreed to pay for. The sellers hired this contractor as a recommendation by their questionable realtor which was a huge mistake on their part.
