The salesman, Joe, came by and wrote up an order for new base and walls, as well as fixtures (faucet, shower head, shower arm., grab bar and drain cover.)
We were not asked what WE needed or would like. We were not told how this would be done. Inasmuch as the shower stall is 60% cantilevered to the outside, weight was an item to be considered. Commercials on TV and in magazines always show the removal of old drywall and tiles. Bath Max merely covered the old tile and drywall with their composite material.
Mark Wring did an very good job with the installation.
Since then I have attempted to contact the company with help with shower-related problems. No one returns calls or answers letters. The most recent issue: We are getting raw sewer gases up through the shower drain. This also comes into our bedroom. I explained that to the lady who answered the phone, but in 10 days no one called back.
Another time I talked to the owner, Mark Smith, about the finish coming off the hose to the hand-held shower. Mark told the lady who was with him to see if there is one lying around the storage place. It would have been the proper thing to contact Moen and to have them ship out a new one. Nevertheless I got neither.
Etc., etc.
The "plumbers" that came to do the work, not only were not licensed plumbers, but took shortcuts and did not do a professional job.
They re-used some of the 45 year old copper pipe, used a bent nail to losely fasten a pipe, and used the wrong type of adapter to take the shower drian down to the bathtub drain size. Their work would have been hidden by drywall if they were able to finish the job.
We were lucky to have the local village inspector drive by on his lunch break, and notice that there was no permit. He stopped and talked to the "plumbers" to iquire about the job. When hw found out that they were not lisenced plumbers he ordered the work stopped. The "plumbers" said that they usually don't get a permit.
We were able to get out of the contract since the work done was in violation of the contract.
If you use Bath Max, make sure they get a permit, and the workers are qualified to do the work.
