"We just spoke with [Member Name Removed] and apologized for the condition his yard was left in, his fence job was completed in June. We were unaware that our "crew" left garbage, rocks and clay leftover in his yard until today. Unfortunately this review was the first response we heard from [Member Name Removed]. If a customer contacts us we can dispatch employees to rectify the problem immediately. We will definitely have a meeting with our "crews" and remind them to please leave the yards in the condition that they would like their yard to be left in."
"Thank You for the great grades!! It's always nice to hear we've done well. !!"
"Thank you for taking the time to rate on Angies list. We strive to give our customers the best product and service we can provide, and one of the gauges we go by are our Angies List reviews. Its nice to hear we've succeed in our goal to satisfy our customer."
"Yes - We did have a problem with a gate latch which will be corrected within a few days as the weather has warmed to a point where we can continue outside work. The oil spot from the truck was supposed to have been taken care of. We will investigate and get back with the customer."
Was just fine. John Lopez came out to quote the job at hand, he was on time with our appointment.
I received his quote the very next day, After signing the contract it was approx. 2 weeks before I heard from them with an
date and time of arrival. The crew was very professional both with the take down of my old fence, and the erection of the new fence. I had absolutely no problems with the service in which I received.
So at this point I have no complaints.
John arrived early to complete the estimate and was informative on options regarding the fence. His estimate was met to the penny at final cost, even after a delay to clear zoning restrictions and a few modifications made after the estimate was provuded.
The teardown/install crew arrived on time daily and completed the job on schedule, during some very hot days. The property was left clean. The fence is gorgeous, 5' board-on-board with a 1' vertical lattice on top and a decorative gate. Some of the wood is a bit knotty for my taste, but overall the lumber quality appears good. I've received many positive comments from friends and neighbors on the appearance of the fence.
When I finally accepted their bid, they gave me a few dates when they would come out and do the project. They worked fast and nearly completed the project in a day (my yard is not very big). They gave it one additional day to make sure the project was completed correctly. All of the fencing was custom-built; I have a few hills in the back yard so pre-produced panels were simply not an option.
One special accommodation they provided was that my driveway will eventually be redone (probably next year). Instead of installing the swinging fence over the driveway, they drilled for the posts and installed them. That way, whatever company works on my driveway will be able to use the posts during their construction instead of Cardinal having to drill in new concrete and possibly cause issues later. Cardinal told me they would honor their contract with me once I'm finally ready to install the wooden driveway doors, which was very impressive to me.
It's been a year now and I'm still very happy with my fence. The company followed up with me later and I was very happy with their work.
"We have no record of this person or call. There is no way anyone would be $7,000 higher than a competing bid unless the material & layout were completely different. We think this is a fictitious review."
We gave him the contract and he did a good job.
He cam in the day we agreed on and finished to whole job that day.
I was having 2 gates installed, one on each side of the property. I wasn't sure which way I wanted one gate to open because of a nearby tree, so I told Cardinal I would stop out the first day they were there to see how it looked once the gate posts were up. I drive in only to have the fence installer tell me that they had just cut the AT&T cable. (Yes, the utilities had all been out to lay flags where their lines were.) Fortunately, I had just fired AT&T a month before that, so no harm no foul. The next day, I received a call from someone at Cardinal "to explain what was going on in my back yard." He told me they nicked a Comm ED (electric) cable. I said "oh no - it was AT&T because I was there yesterday when they did it. He said he would verify that and call me back. Well, apparently, they cut a second cable digging a fence post hole, and this time it was the electric line they missed. They appropriately called the utility and were instructed to stop work until the exposed line could be repaired. I asked the guy from Cardinal when we could expect work to resume and who I could follow up with at ComEd if it wasn't promptly repaired. All he would say was "good luck getting anyone on the phone from ComEd." Honestly, considering this was the second line that was cut, he was a bit abrupt!!!!
ComEd came out the next day (a Saturday no less) and repaired the line. They asked if they could speak with someone from Cardinal. He said that normally, a representative from the fencing company will meet them there and put some kind of sleeve in the ground to protect the line while the post hole is dug. The office was closed but I was able to reach John Lopez on his cell phone. Apparently, no one was going to come out from Cardinal, so ComEd used a couple of sticks to mark where they buried the line and said they would be available on Monday if Cardinal cut the line again. Now, in Cardinal's defense, because the village was so picky about where the fence was, they had to dig awfully close to where the utility flags were. I would have been much more understanding had the guy that called from Cardinal been more personable about the situation.
Other things that were annoying: when they arrived with the materials, they drove the truck up on my front lawn to unload. That lawn had just been resodded by the city because they'd dug part of it for a drainage issue. Now it had big tire tracks in it. When the fence was complete, I found coffee cups pushed into the stand of my grill and cup lids littering my back yard. These are not deal breakers, but cripes!!!!
I thought the price on the matierials was a little high compared to, say, Home Depot - but I allowed that because I didn't have to measure, cut or haul them myself.
On the plus side, John Lopez was very patient in answering all my questions about fencing options. My village was really painful to work with and I was happy that he put the work in on the front end so that the fence would pass inspection the first time. Overall, I am delighted with the finished product. A couple of neighbors who were disappointed that the new kid in the neighborhood was going to fence at all actually stopped by to say that they thought it turned out really nice, and they appreciated that I didn't cheap up the neighborhood with a chain link fence. The fence is sturdy and secure enough that my two escape artists have not found a way out, through or under. Mission accomplished.
We would definitely recommend Cardinal Fence to anyone. We consider ourselves very particular when it comes to work being done in and around our home. They definitely measured up.

They were very prompt and did a good job. They also put up a gate, which initially was small, but, took care of the same later. I liked their services and will use the same in future.
