SONNENBERG LANDSCAPING
About us
After developing a successful paving company in 1983, founder & president Kirk Sonnenberg decided to pursue his next business venture by purchasing a 3 acre piece of property and started the construction of Sonnenberg Landscaping Material and Supply Inc. in Belleville, Illinois. He opened the doors of Sonnenberg’s in 1991. The material & supply store slowly began to establish a client base & build inventory. With the increased demand for service, an installation division was implemented later the very same year. Recently, Sonnenberg’s has built a new shop and display building at its’ Belleville location along with the opening of another store in Columbia, IL. Recently, readers of the area’s largest newspaper publication voted Sonnenberg Landscaping the #1 Landscaping Company in the Metro-East area. The material & supply store property has developed into maintaining a stocked inventory of over a thousand tons of bulk rock & a few hundred pallets of block, brick, & pavers among a vast variety of other landscape materials and supplies. The landscaping company employs more than 30 employees with a vehicle fleet of over 40 trucks & pieces of heavy construction machinery. Our installation crews are supplied with all the latest cutting-edge equipment that the landscape industry has to offer. They are well trained and ready to cater to your every need. Needless to say, we are quite proud of what we’ve accomplished through the past decade, and we are committed to continue the growth and success for several more to come. We would like to thank all of our store customers, contractors and install clients for their never-ending support and all of our employees for their devotion and dedication.

"[name removed] contacted us for Mulch and Topsoil to be installed. It was explained to him that although it is our busy season and below our job minimum we would be happy to fit him into our schedule for last Saturday 4-25. The rain that day cancelled our installation and he was again contacted on Monday, 4-27 for an afternoon installation. [name removed] responded that he would not be home and we told him that we would reschedule him for another day. This installation was below $500.00 and we never received a signed contract or deposit from him."
After going to a nursery and looking at the plants, I knew this was absolutely not going to work - in our area the hydrangeas would be sticks during the winter and my yard would look bare. I voiced this to their employee that was doing the hardscaping and he said he would call her. The next day, him and I discussed this again and he told me he would call her again. This time, she came out. When I told her the drawing/plants she designed would not work for our area and I didn't like the design, I got a lecture on her being the "expert" and that if she changed her drawings, I would have to pay another $200. I told her I wasn't paying more and that I couldn't use her design. She went back to the office and then sent me an email saying that they had built the bed larger than what she thought it would be and now the price would be $2350. (Again - they built the bed not me but now are upping the price $850) When I pushed about the plants, she came up with a few they could add in - none would retain color during the winter though - and none were to our taste and the look I had described to her) We wound up not having them landscaping and I really wish I hadn't wasted the $200 on a design that I will never use. I always thought that the customer was right - but I guess not if you are using their landscape design services - it's their way or you're wrong.
