Everything was great. We had Tom out toward the end of last year to get some ideas of cost so we could be prepared to move forward early this year. He was very informative and even told us to be sure to check reviews and get other estimates to really compare. After meeting with two other concrete guys, we decided to go with Taber Builders. Before we had signed any contract, we had him come back out to quote us on the front walkway. He gave us a fair price and told us it's best to do that together with the patio. After a rainy month, they were finally able to pour the patio and the front walkway and everything looks great. The only negative I have to add is that they were kind of messy. We felt that they could have tidied up the yard after they were finished with the job. All in all, we'd hire them again.

Project began on a Thursday and was completed the following Wednesday.  It would have been completed sooner, but due to rain and some questions I had about the plan, it took an extra day or two.  Tom, the owner, was very responsive to my questions and concerns.  He was patient and determined to do a professional job.  The men that worked on the project were polite and worked hard.  I love the finished project and am very glad that I chose to have both the patio and sidewalk stamped.  Received many compliments from family and neighbors!

The project began on 9/13. Took 3 days to tear out poured sidewalk and edges on Thursday, day four and did not hear from again till late Sat./sun. To say would come back Monday 9/22 and finish driveway. Driveway was poured on Monday 9/22 and I was told the owner would be back the next day to seal everything. I paid the balance assuming we were all but finished. The driveway was not sealed the next day. I had to leave messages again and heard back from the owner via voicemail over the weekend. I was told it would be completed Monday. They power washed but did not seal on Monday. I again called Jim tho owner and was told that they got backed up on another job and would definitely finish the next day. It was finally completed on 9/30. The work they did was very nice. However, my neighbor had his driveway torn out and replaced in 3 days. I felt over 2 weeks was excessive and an inconvenience to us having to park on the street for that amount of time.
Response from Taber Builders Inc.
"With all outside projects the weather dictates what we do and when , especially with concrete. this project did take longer than three days simply because there was regular concrete and stamped concrete poured together. We poured the stamped concrete walk and driveway ribbons on Thursday and had to let it cure for a day as to not damage it when we poured the driveway. We washed and sealed the stamped concrete on Saturday. We poured the driveway on Monday, We sealed the driveway Tuesday. It was all done in a manner that allowed the concrete to cure enough , before we poured more concrete right along side of it , and be able to walk on it . You then have to wait a day in between washing and sealing stamped concrete. My primary objective is to do the job properly , within industry standards , making sure the final results make our customers happy. I try to explain the process , but I understand when homeowners want the project done quickly , and the need for me to be more attentive to communicating day by day progress. Mrs [member name removed] was understanding and cooperative , and I and I apologize for not explaining or communicating with her better."

We sent them pictures of the color we were looking for, then the owner came out and measured and gave us a quote. We scheduled the job about 2 weeks out and then they completed the whole project in two days. The owner, Tom, was there both days all day working with his crew. Love the look of it. We have had it for about a year, and actually just sold our home last month. The new buyers said one of the reasons they chose our home over another was the patio we had. Will definitely use them again with our new home in Naperville.

Tom was great, he answered all of our questions. He was there when he said he would be, he did what he said he would do, and for a fair price. Before they poured the patio we decided we wanted to make it a little bit bigger. He came out and talked to us, looked at it and we were able to make it bigger before the concrete was poured without any problem even though it required he send his guys out a second time and some work needed to be repeated. We were very happy with the end result, it is beautiful, I would highly recommend them.

Our project was to possibly remove a deck - which we ended up doing ourselves - and putting a stamped concrete patio in its place. Tom came out and gave us an estimate; he was the first contractor I received an estimate from and his turned out to be the lowest estimate. Out of three estimates, I was choosing between his company and one other, but I ended up choosing Taber Builders because I thought Tom seemed professional, knowledgeable and experienced. As a result, I felt OK going with the lowest bid. I'm happy I did. There was a lot of rain in April, 2011 so the project took a long time to get started, but that clearly was no one's fault. The whole project was three days of work over maybe a two to three week period. One day, they excavated the site, laid the gravel base, poured the concrete footings for the set of stairs, and installed the concrete forms. Then, we had to wait until the weather would allow the concrete to be poured. The second day, the crew poured the concrete and stamped it. A few days later, one crew member came back and removed all the forms, power-washed off the extra release and sealed the patio. I think I was a bit of a high maintenance client for the small job we did. Tom made an extra trip back to our house to discuss the layout and the color choices, when I think that normally would have been taken care of on workday number 1, but I told him that I really wanted the extra appointment in order to feel confident when the work started, and he obliged me. It may have only been $4,200, but concrete lasts a lifetime and it was an important project to me, so I asked for the extra meeting. Tom and I had several phone conversations and he always returned my call within 24 hours. Overall, it was a very good experience. The construction and work performed were of excellent quality. If I had to point out negatives, it would be on the clean up aspect of the project. When the forms were pulled, I found many - probably between 15-20 nails on the ground. I have small kids and a dog who are outside a lot, so the fact that there were nails lying around in the yard was irritating. I made sure to go over the yard very carefully and found all the nails. There were also a couple of wood scraps left around, which I also wasn't happy about, but they were at least easy to clean up. ,
