About us
Throughout the years, Batavia Avenue Mobil has changed its look and brands, but continued to offer the same level of "old fashioned" service and high tech repairs. Since the day we opened, we have continued to operate under the same ownership, retained much of the same long term staff and offered the same warranty. This time, I needed work on an older car and dealt with a manager. He showed me an estimate where the bottom of the page was $918. I authorized the work. When I picked up the car, the total was over $1800. The manager said I should have added up all the numbers on the page and realized the total was $1800. I argured that any reputable operation presents a bottom line that is the total. After much loud arguement we met in the middle at $1350. 3000 miles later, the car pulls to the right and has a slight shimmy again.
"This customer personally stopped in to review the Estimate and was provided a written Estimate that broke down the needed repairs by Jobs - Front Brakes, Rear Brakes, Tires, Suspension. He was asked if he had any questions and he had none and he verbally told us to do "all the work" as witnessed by the Manager and a Customer Service Representative. The next day the mechanic performed all the work as instructed. When the customer picked up the vehicle he stated that was not the amount he approved. We reviewed the original Estimate with the customer and it was in agreement with the final Invoice. Apparently the customer had looked at the last subtotaled job portion which was for suspension work for $918. This was clearly noted as a SUBTOTAL and there were other SUBTOTALS on the page for the front brake work and the rear brake work, which allows the customer to decide which Estimated and recommended work to approve. When looking at the Estimate overall with a breakdown of parts and labor and sections clearly labeled as SUBTOTAL, it is apparent that all the work that was done and approved could not have added up to $918. It appears that he only saw the cost of the last item and assumed that this was for everything. As this was provided in writing and he clearly stated to do "all the work" we did all the work as requested which included all Estimated work, front brakes, rear brakes, tire work and suspension work. The customer was upset and refusing to pay for something he said he did not approve when he came in to pick up the vehicle. As we understood the customer was upset and may have been unclear of the Estimate as he approved it, we discounted the Invoice by $475. This was done as a courtesy to the customer and it was understood that this was a satisfactory resolution considering all the work that was done at a greatly reduced price. We are sorry that the customer still feels that he did not get what he paid for and approved. We have been in business for over 30 years and we have always tried to be fair, honest and provide the best quality service and products at the best value possible. We feel our previous record and ratings truly reflect on our level of service in the past and into the future. We are sorry this customer does not have that same opinion."
Stan told me that they provide free brake inspection and that they'd rather inspect the work that needs to be done than quote a price for a job that might not be really needed. This alone is already a positive for me. I was told that the inspection would take 20 mins but they were done in 15.
After the inspection, it was confirmed that a complete brake repair is needed since the brake pads for my Honda Pilot 2003 were down to less than 10%. They gave me a very reasonable quote, much lower than the one that I got from the previous shop. They also told me that it would only take a couple of hours, which is a lot shorter than the half day that the previous shop told me.
Steve, the manager and the business owner's son, even indulged my request to be dropped off at my home. When we were less than a mile away from our house, I remembered that I left my house key with my car key. I declined Steve's offer to drop me off again since I know that it was already too much to ask. And I didn't feel any negative feedback from him from this whole ordeal.
After all of that, the repair on my car was finished 10 mins before the time they have committed. I highly suggest Mobil (formerly Citgo) for any car repair service. I am actually planning on getting my next oil change from them from now on.
