This is the only guy I would hire for decking and such. He tore off an existing deck and rebuilt with an additional 3 season room in 2003. We needed alot of repairs done in 2019, due to material failure. Not the responsibility of Four Seasons, that material is what was available in 2003. We received quotes from 8 area contractors. Holy moly, what a line of b.s. we got from them. We received bids from $500.00 to $9000.00 and no commitment what was to be done. It was plain to see most of the others did not know what they were doing. Reluctant to call Tom because he is far from us. To my surprise, he was over and gave us a great price and perfect workmanship! An honest and hardworking man. Happy we found him.

This review is long overdue, sorry Tom. I was on Angie's List for something else, that prompted me to finally write this review. Last summer my husband and I wanted to have our deck replaced and have one of the columns by our front door replaced (wood rot). We had two other contractors come out before we had the pleasure of doing business with Tom (Four Seasons). I messaged him about our projects. He got back to me right away to set up a date and time to come out for the bid. He was prompt, very nice and most importantly very professional. He answered all questions we had. One of the other contractors said he may have to cut into our drywall from our basement to do the deck. Explanation for this very poor! What? As soon as he left, we instantly said in unison "no way". We didn't care what his numbers would be! We asked Tom about this, he told us why he said that, but also explained it in plain English. He also said that would not be necessary to do the job. He looked at the column and the damage, let us know, until he cut into the damaged area wouldn't know if the whole thing would need replacement or just repair work. He agreed to write a proposal for each situation so there would be no surprises. He said he would send me the proposals in a couple of days. He left. I turned to my husband said so what do you think? He said instantly "wow, super nice guy, sounds very knowledgeable". I couldn't agree more! He sent us the proposals 2 days later. I couldn't believe how reasonable his prices were. I'm well aware of buyer beware of going with the lower price. However, Tom, works for himself by himself. He doesn't have to pass the cost on to the customer to pay a crew of men to do the work. Now this is where Tom really went above and beyond for us. He went to the city of Elgin to secure the permits. He was told because our deck would be over 4 ft high, he would need an architectural engineer stamp his drawings in order to get the necessary permits. He went to several, only to be told by each one, he would need to do his own drawings in order to have stamped drawings. Apparently it was a liability issue they claimed. They all wanted $1100.00-$1200.00 for this. He finally found an architectural engineer who was willing to stamp Tom's drawings. His charge $350.00. Big difference in price. Now even though this wasn't in the original proposal, we didn't fault Tom for this. This was an unforeseen cost. He couldn't have known this until he applied for the permits. There was also no getting around it. We really appreciated his time and effort to find someone who could do this for a reasonable price. So now after that whole debacle, we set dates to begin work. He did the column replacement first. He did such a great job, you would never know that one was replaced. All the little detailed cuts, perfect match to the other. The old deck teardown, build of new one went great. Tom was here everyday, sometimes working in the rain. He came to the front door everyday when he was leaving to let us know and to keep us informed of anything. Progress and permit inspections. All inspections went fine, no issues. We were blown away by his work. It turned out so beautiful. I know this review seems excessive in length, but I feel I must mention ALL the positives of Tom and his work. So, absolutely we feel very lucky to have found him, and to do business with him. I absolutely will call him for any other project in the future. True professional! Ihighly recommend him. I did include some pics of deck, I will update this review with a pic of the column when I eventually take one.

Tom from Four Seasons Carpentry did a fantastic job. He is extremely professional and very skilled at his craft. If anyone has a deck project they want completed, Four Seasons Carpentry is the way to go. Tom is extremely hard working and exceeded our expectations in every way for a very fair price. He was always very responsive and extremely respectful of our property. Despite working on our massive deck project all by himself, he completed the project very quickly, much faster than expected. He took the time to explain and articulate everything he was doing to ensure it was exactly what we wanted. I would hire Tom again in a heartbeat. The finished product turned out better than expected and it is clear that Tom takes pride in his work and cares about the satisfaction of the people that hire him. Overall, we are very happy with our new deck space and will enjoy it for as long as we own this home. We are very happy we chose Tom to complete our deck project and I would recommend him to anybody looking for an experienced and knowledgeable contractor!

Overall very please with work. There were some delays due to other projects and weather but was very impressed with timeliness once project started and completed. Whole process took approximately 5 days (which included waiting for two inspections). Considering it was just Tom, works very fast. Cost wise, was cheapest of quotes received.

Well I've never had any problem with them that's all I know, they have always been very professional, they have done the job like when they initially put these things in. I thought their prices were fair and they clean up after themselves and I trust them to look at the products they have installed and to give me the correct information and not to end up telling something is wrong that's not wrong.

Tom was always here first thing in the morning, he cleaned up everything each day. Tom cleaned up his work area each day before leaving.

We were amazed at how much he got done each day and how fast he built our shed.  Tom was always spot on with giving us the times that he'd be here and how long he would be here each day.  I can't say enough about the quality of the work that Tom and Four Seasons Carpentry provide.

We were so impressed that he also built a deck with fan railing for us.

Thomas Stefan did a fantastic professional job.  Although some of the longer lengths of lumber weren't available, Tom made the shorter boards work.  The shorter boards took more time, but Tom didn't charge us addl.  From the start Tom was reliable always coming on time and providing communications about what he was going to do and then did it.  He recommended a junk removal company for the wood removal and allowed us to purchase our own lumber from Menards.  He worked well with us to coordinate the tear down of the deck, the lumber delivery and repair.  Overall it took him probably about a weeks time.  There was one board that my husband was unhappy with and Tom was very willing to recut a different board and replace it.  Tom educated us on the finish of the wood and advised us to wait a few months or till next season to the the deck finished to allow it to weather.  Tom is a fairly quite guy, not the Salesman approach, which was great, but sometimes I wondered if he was for real.. Overall, he was a tremendous choice and based on our experience we would rehire him and recommend him to others.

The job went fine, they were very professional, they did everything really good, and they cleaned up everything.  They had to work in horrible weather and they still got it done. Price wise I think they were probably higher than what I had expected but it was probably normal.

The contractor did a thorough analysis of work to be performed, completed the work on-time, did a thorough clean-up after work was completed, all at a very reasonable price.

Tom worked 3 days, 1 day to take down old deck and 2 days rebuild. Always on time and cleaned up everyday. Have use him on other projects a) reroofed utility shed, 2) installed air vents on side of house and repair vinyl siding, 3) installed pull down ceiling ladder.

Pricing was always reasonable. Will use again if needed and would not hesitate to refer to anyone.
