The partial updates to the closet included the continuation of the bath tile to the closet, fixing some drywall issues, closet door install, and trim work.
The partial updates to the master bedroom included trim work, door install, and can lights.
Everything turned out well and exceeded my expectation. I've already recommended Ron to others and hope to have him do more work in the near future
Taking a small bathroom and turning it into a master bath by knocking out a hallway wall, moving it to expand the depth, removing the tub and building a shower stall w/bench, claiming a bedroom closet into the bathroom in order to widen the length, tearing out a circa 1954 Alabama grown hardwood floor, closing off a window, building a half wall, installing two Toto dual flush toilets, installing new copper pipes, new electrics, new floor-ceiling tile, floor tile, build/install a pocket door, paint, grout and seal all. Whew!
The master bathroom was really old and moldy and now it's modern and fresh! All of the bones were good, we kept everything in the same location but just updated it. Shower, tub, double sinks, and toilet room. Total time was approximately 19 days. Ron did have to move some plumbing around again to accommodate the tub we purchased and the sinks, but it was no problem. He was able to give us recommendations of where to go to buy certain materials/fixtures, as well as approximate costs for each, which was really helpful since this was the first time we had done a major home remodel. The tile work in the shower was detailed as was the layout of the glass shower doors and base and he worked with us every step of the way and even sketched out drawings. He also created custom doors for our odd linen closets and suggested putting full length mirrors on the face of the door which was a GREAT idea! The only thing I would have liked to have was a temporary schedule of when he needed fixtures, etc, to install. There were times I felt like I was pressured to purchase something because he needed to install it in a few days. Having an approx schedule would've been helpful for us. Maybe it was just because we were first time remodelers and didn't really know what to expect. Overall, Ron did a spectacular job. He was punctual every morning, communicated greatly via text/email/phone. Whatever was convenient for us. I'm a mom with two young kids that were home majority of the day and having him around daily for about 6 weeks wasn't an issue at all. We will definitely be using Ron again for other home remodeling projects!
Ron is a pleasure to work with. He is very professional and highly skilled in what he does. He is a no-nonsense guy, and we appreciated his input into the design and selection of quality materials that would function best - without having to spend a lot of money. We are also thankful that he suggested that we expand our master bathroom to make room for a much larger shower with a bench. We would not have come up with that solution on our own, and we absolutely love it. For the second bathroom, again - he gave some excellent suggestions on materials - and came up with the design to frame our mirrors with mosaic tile. It looks beautiful. He also solved several problems - some that we knew about, some that we didn't (this included proper ventilation, moving plumbing that was on exterior walls - where there was evidence of pipes that had frozen in years past, and providing additional insulation where needed). He was very thorough, and paid attention to details we wouldn't have thought about - and included us in every decision.
Compared to other contractors we talked to/got estimates from, we found Ron to be most personable, most trustworthy, and most realistic on what it would take to complete quality work. We had no issue handing him the key to our house to come and go whenever he needed to. He came every day he said he would, and did not start any other jobs until ours was complete.
Since we had a few months in between the 2 bathroom remodels, we did make some adjustments in the planning and approach for bathroom #2...notably, planning out where the debris would go. We did request to use a dumpster for the 2nd bathroom so that we wouldn't be hauling out so much garbage and taking up so much space in the garage like we did with the 1st bathroom. We also got his input on materials before he started, so we had plenty of time to make our selections without feeling rushed.
It is clear that Ron is a highly talented individual, and his skills go beyond bathroom remodeling (he has mentioned and/or shown us pictures of work he has done in basements, mudrooms, fireplaces, and kitchens). We have discussed other projects in our house with him, and when the time is right, we will likely call him again.
Ron Williams came out to give ideas. With his help we were able to maximize the space in the bathroom. I choose Ron because of his willingness to work with my time and budget. He brought great design ideas and details to the initial appointment. He was very attentive to the goal of the project and its obstacles. Personally, I think everything went smoothly. It?s difficult to schedule multiple clients and sometimes scheduling could get a little thin when you run into obstacles. What captivated me about Ron was the energy and enthusiasm from the conception of the design to the very end. The main thing was the he was very considerate of the budget without compromising the quality of the work. Ron tirelessly prepared back-up plans through the entirety of the project. It was such a pleasure working with such talented person who was respectful of our time and budget.
Because of his workmanship, he is in demand.
I'd use him again in a heartbeat.
Ron is the most professional tradesman that I have ever worked with and I highly recommend him and will be using him again for my other bathroom and kitchen.
"The member's complaint is unfair. When we initially discussed cost of her water damaged ceiling, we talked about new drywall and patching the damaged wall. She had me wait to do the job until she removed the wallpaper from the bedroom. When I got to the job, all the accumulated furniture and many boxes were in the room....none of it cleared out. I spent over an hour moving furniture, breaking down the bed, and moving boxes. The job did not entail this nor did it include me helping her for 5 hours to remove wallpaper and clean up the walls so that I could begin work. When I began work, I tore down the ruined portion of the ceiling and found water damage so extensive that I had to replace a significant portion of the ceiling joist structure around a fireplace that had leaked for many many years. The wall surrounding the fireplace was completely rotten so I had to rebuild it with 2x4 structure which messed up the trim work so I couldn't reuse it. I had to replace insulation and go up on the roof and spend more than an hour redoing the flashing around the fireplace because I could see daylight from the room below! When the wallpaper was removed, many cracks in the plaster were revealed. They were all filled and the entire room was skim-coated, primed, and painted. None of this was in our initial discussion and she said that she wanted it done. Additionally, I repaired a major crack in the master bedroom ceiling as well as 2 in the hallway. I fixed a faulty outlet and hung a shelf over the toilet in the master bathroom....none of this part of our initial discussion. In all, I did far more than $1600 worth of PROPER repairs to her home but charged her less than I wanted because I was under the impression that I would be doing her bathroom and I wanted to be kind to her because she really needed the help. As for moving the furniture back, I told her that I would help her if she needed. She did not call me back and ask for me to do this...but sure was concerned that her budget was being cut into from doing more work than anticipated. She told me later that the ceiling had leaked for more than 10 years. I did what was necessary to give her a job done correctly and the price was far more than fair. She certainly wouldn't have liked if I tore the ceiling down and then walked off the job because the job was more than the initial guess. She gave me no indication that the extra cost that she knew would be coming was going to cramp her style so drastically."
