Our cleaning crew was generally on time and did a good job cleaning, although they had an annoying habit of moving items we had on our counters into our bathroom and kitchen cabinets, which I don't think a cleaning crew should be going into. Until we said something to the crew, almost everything would be moved off our bathroom countertops and put into cabinets, and to me a cleaning crew doesn't need to be poking around my family's medication, personal items, etc.
But that is a trivial complaint compared to our interactions with the owner. About a year ago, we noticed the stain in our master bedroom after the crew left. There were a few but they were relatively small. We contacted the owner, who came by several weeks later to check and agreed to rectify the situation. She called back about a week later and said her usual carpet repair man had been in a car accident and wouldn't be available, so we should find our own service and send her the bill. At this time I noted that we weren't in any hurry and would be willing to wait for her carpet repair service but she said to go ahead and secure another service.
Admittedly, this wasn't a high priority for us so it was a number of months before we got someone out to fix the stain. We used Angie's List to find a highly-rated provider and arranged for them to come fix the spot. I was given a quote over the phone and called Maids on Time to let remind them of the repair - leaving a voice mail as no one picked up.
I received a call back from the owner a day or so later letting me know that I hadn't used the service in three years, which was odd considering we had used them every two weeks during that time. I called back to let the owner know that in fact we were regular customers. She then returned my call to agree and said she was switching billing systems or had some type of computer glitch, which seemed somewhat odd considering we pay the cleaning crew directly by check and have never received an invoice. But that's neither here nor there.
When I told the owner of the amount we were charged to do the repair, she expressed surprise at the cost, but then said we would deduct the cost from our next two cleanings, the first one in it's entirety with the remaining balance deducted from the next cleaning after that.
I left the receipt for our cleaning crew and discussed it with them. It turns out the owner never mentioned what she had agreed to with our crew, which led to an awkward discussion on our part, but the staff agreed to take the receipt back to the owner on our behalf. This was on a Friday.
The next Wednesday I received a voice mail from the owner stating that she believed the carpet repair costs were too high and that she would only reimburse us by giving us credit for one cleaning session. This meant that we had to pay $77 out of our own pocket to cover the cost of the damage done by her cleaning crew.
I called back within 10 minutes of missing her call, and then again several times that day but only got voice mail. I eventually left a message stating that if she would not reimburse us the full cost of the repair then we would no longer use her services. We never heard back from the owner.
The lack of professionalism and plain common courtesy by the owner was appalling. When she first told me that her repair person was injured i offered to wait until he regained his health, but she rejected that offer and told me to find another provider. Then she agreed to reimburse over multiple cleanings but somehow forgot that within a matter of weeks. Every time we had contact with her via phone or voice mail she was aggressive and not friendly in the least.
And as mentioned, this was just the final straw. There were other instances in which the owner seemed to just forget about her customers, such as when we requested to change which day of the week we had our cleaning and it took almost a year to hear back (and that was only because I left a voice mail to follow up).
Our recommendation is to stay away from Maids on Time. At the end of the day, there's a lot of cleaning services out there and many of them are good. No one should have to cover the cost of damage done by a cleaning crew out of their own pocket and no one should have to work with a forgetful, hostile owner who won't accept responsibility for their employees' actions.
