I walked into the Roomplace showroom with a 20% off coupon. The salesman sold me a bed that was already on sale for $699.99. I had asked him if the 20% off coupon would be honored along with the sale. He said, yes, that the 20% would be taken off of the price of $699.99. He also told me that delivery would be free of charge. I was very pleased and therefore picked out a nightstand and a dresser. He told me that I needed to purchase a mattress protector to ensure the warranty on the mattress, but I would also receive 20% off of the price on the mattress protector. I agreed to the purchase. The mattress protector was normally $79.99. When the time came to sign the sales paper, the price of the items was much higher than my calculation. I was told that the figure that I'd come to was just based on my calculations and the computers had the actual figure. (Nice, huh?) After I insisted that they break it down and show me where the discrepancies were, they explained that (1) there would be a charge for delivery because I was also purchasing a nightstand and dresser. (2) They could not take 20% off of the mattress protector because it "was a warranty item." (3) They could not take 20% off of the sale price of the bed for, in order to do that, they would have to sell me the mattress and box spring at their separate prices, which would come out to be much higher than the sale price. At this point, I was ready to say no thanks and to leave the store. But, since I'd been looking for a bed for quite a while, I said to take off the dresser and nightstand and I would just purchase the bed and mattress protector. Since I was quite miffed by the way I'd been mislead, the manager said he'd throw in the metal frame for free. I agreed and paid cash for the bed and left the store.
Upon delivery, the delivery men ran over my neighbor's lawn, bent my porch awning, scuffed my hall wall and asked if they had to set up the bed on the frame because their work order only said they had to deliver it. I asked that they place it on the frame and they did. Before they left, they stuffed all the packing materials and plastic into my trash can (which was then too full and some of it blew out overnight into my yard). Then, when I started fitting the sheets onto the bed, I noticed a bright yellow tag marked, "Floor Sample." That was the last straw and I called the Roomplace to tell them of the poor service and that the bed was not supposed to be a floor sample. They told me to take a picture of the bed and the tag and email it to them. I did. About 3 hours later they called me back and said that it wasn't a floor sample and that it was only "going to be a floor sample." At that point I was done with them and wanted to forget about the entire experience. The queen size King Koil mattress started developing a hole or a valley in the middle of it by the end of the first week. I have lived with it since then and have been enduring chronic back pain because I have not wanted to deal with the Roomplace. Yesterday, however, I purchased a bed from Macy's as I can no longer deal with the pain. I called the Roomplace this afternoon and asked that they come remove the bed and give me $200 or whatever in consideration of the warranty and for all of this. They said they couldn't do that and they can only schedule to have someone come out and examine the mattress and replace it if it qualifies for replacement. So, rather than wait for that and then listen to some excuse, I will put it outside my house for the trash collection and be done with the Roomplace once and for all.
