Pure Prairie Organics

After weeks of emailing and calling other lawn fertilization and treatment companies with no response (or responding to me that they have to take care of their current customers and have no time for new ones), I left a message with Chris at Pure Prairie Organics explaining that I was in need of quick service for core aeration and overseeding. He contacted me within minutes. At first it sounded like it would be a week or more before the work could be done, but when I said I really needed it done this week he added me to an already fully booked day. We emailed back and forth yesterday, and my yard is already done today! He even emailed me today to share the progress since I was not at home. Above and beyond, truly.

This is my second year with Pure Prairie Organics and I couldn't be happier.  I was concerned about treatments for my dogs (and my foster dogs) and Chris has been great about explaining the treatments to me and he and the company seem to tailor to kid and pet friendly service.  
On top of that, any time I've had questions or concerns, or just wondered when the next service was, I've been able to contact Chris directly and get immediate responses.  He runs a great business and I'm happy to hire them for my lawn care service.

I would love to write a review but Pure Prairie Organics never responded to me. I submitted an online form for an estimate for my yard around the end of April or beginning of May. After two weeks I submitted a second request. About a week later I left a voice mail. It is mid-June and I have given up. I am happy they are so busy, but am disappointed no one ever got back to me.

started the program in spring and half way through the applications I saw a saw a vast improvement in the lawn, thicker greener

My major complaint was that I had a fungus growing on my lawn that he did not recognize. He kept telling me that I wasn't watering enough but I watered and watered and the problem only got worse. He also over seeded my lawn around 3 weeks after he had fertilized and nothing was going to grow at that point. It's common knowledge you need to wait at least 6 weeks post fertilization and one would expect an expert in the field to know this. Despite daily, thorough watering, I kept waiting for the seeds to germinate but nothing did. Overall, I felt I threw out 2 years worth of money trying to work with this firm. I can't recommend them. My lawn looks so much better now that I've got the right company taking care of my lawn treatments.

It went fine - they are quick and I usually never know they're working until they're almost finished. Owner is very knowledgable, and while staff is very polite and helpful, couldn't answer some of my basic questions. Our lawn started out looking pretty awful, and the work done by Pure Prairie Organics has made a huge improvement.

We have used them for a long time. The guy who founded the company is from a local family that had green houses for many years, he has a deep background in horticulture and lawn care and ground care. What I really like is that you set up a schedule with them and they will come up at whatever time of year you want and apply the organic fertilizer to your lawn. This improves your lawn dramatically and it is safe for kids and pets. We have them come out three or four times a year, they probably were here last month. I think I saw forty five dollars on the application. I will use them in the future. I would continue to use them in the future.

We contacted them because our lawn was getting yellow and not growing well. We have pets and were adamant that we didn't want any chemicals used in our back yard. They set up our service so that there is a modified chemical application in the front and only organic treatment in the back yard. At the start of the season they applied a compost tea and our lawn has never looked better. The grass was green and lush and we received several complements from the neighbors. They were prompt in responding to my questions both online and with notes I wrote when sending in payments. We will definitely continue this relationship and will have them come back next year.

This company used to work out of Wheaton, Il. They have now relocated to Sandwich using different owners. I received my first application in March. I had asked that I be present before applications were applied to my lawn because I just reseeded areas of my lawn. No one called and they applied treatrments that killed my new grass. Then they returned for the second application which was over applied and burnt out half of my lawn. No one returned my phone calls, e-mails or letters, so with the hot summer we had this year I liost half of my yard. When applications were made you could see exactly where they applied too much fertilizer on my lawn as there were long tracks of burnt grass. We have over 3 acres of lawn and next spring we will have to start over reseeding again. Do not use this company they are not the same company as Pure Prairie Organics from Wheaton, Il. Terrible service!!

They also go by another name. They were responsive, punctual and professional. I would use them again in the future.

The usual plan I believe offers six treatments over the course of the year - from early spring to late fall. Again, you can arrange the types and number of treatments you prefer. I highly recommend Pure Prairie.

We asked Chris to come out soon (2011) and he didn't respond as quickly as we would have liked, but he did respond to a follow up email and will be coming out for our first treatment again soon. I anticipate that we'll receive the same great service that we did last year.

I used them for major stuff the beginning of the summer. I spent too much. I initially spent $75 and then later spent $85. They are terrible and I would not recommend them. My lawn was the worst it ever looked this year and I already talked to the owner and he said he would send me a refund and he never has sent it. I had one of the worst looking lawns and I had more crabgrass than I have ever had. The lawn looked absolutely awful. It was horrible and a terrible experience. The owner would not return my calls and I emailed him. It took weeks for him to finally call back after numerous calls and emails. Finally when he called I told him and he was a very nice man and said he would give us a refund, which was 5 or 6 weeks ago. He has never sent anything. He is very knowledgeable and the bottom line is what they did, did not work. I would not recommend them.

I called and talked to the owner, he was going to have has associate call me to set up an appointment. Never heard from anyone again.

They are very environmentally concerned. Immediately after the applications it is kid and pet friendly. Unlike the chemical applications from other companies in the area that you can smell the chemicals in the air, you will not find this with Pure Prairie Organics. If you ever have questions, they will call you and they are real friendly and congenial. They also send out an informative newsletter quarterly regarding organic fixes for lawn and garden problems and this is at no extra charge to you. They are also on Facebook.

Wanted a company that provided provided great lawn service that was safe for the environment. Chris and Bill did a great job. The service was great. They answered all my questions and concerns and it is wonderful to see all the information in the newsletter

Bill is a very environmentally aware individual. He gives a thorough examinaiton of your yard and suggests wat to do to make the lawn look better. His newsletter and advice are phenonmenal! He is always 100% right about his winter/summer predictions for seasonal activity. When we needed to take care of some pesky dandelions one summer he recommended a company to eradicate the weeds. He said they were a nice company that wouldn't bug me about return visits and he was right. The weeds were gone and they wait for me to call to see I need them again. Great recommendation. Bill is friendly and always nice and so is his crew.

The owner, Bill, is a wealth of information about organic gardening and also in general knowledge. He is fabulous and has gone out of his way to provide me with information for me. Not only do they service the lawn, explain what they are doing and why but they also can answer and explain any questions I have via phone or email free of charge. It's incredible. I didn't want to put any pesticides on my lawn or garden so we found him in the phone book and he is a gold mine.

I called Pure Prairie because my lawn is a disaster. I seeded three times in about 10 weeks because each time the grass grew thin and spotty. Unfortunately, Bill didn't service my area, but he was kind enough to spend about 30-45 minutes on the phone explaining things to me - definitely not something he had to do! He had great ideas and explained "why," and opposed to merely "how." I recommend giving him a call if you need work on your lawn!

I have been using this company for about a year and I think they do great work. I like the fact that they use organic material and very little chemicals. I feel it is just so much more environmentally friendly. He will also give you an assessment as to whether you're mowing your lawn too short and things like that. They make sure that you are doing things that are right for the yard.

We've been very happy with this service. Our lawn looks great, and Bill is very knowledgeable and accessible. He's very easy to reach by phone, and he also answers questions on his web page.
