I bought a 40 year old house recently and wanted to rehab. it. It was lot of work to be done in 4 - 6 weeks and under very tight
budget. I got estimates from few handymen and they all blew through my budget; or I would get only 60% of things on my list of things to do with the budget I had. With my tight budget and time lines I wanted to be in control of the materials being used, their costs and use as many discounts/rebates I could from Menards/Lowes/Home Depot. Not all the contractors were willing to do that; understandably. There were a few who were willing to let me buy the materials but I wasn't sure whether they would complete in the time estimated which would affect the labor costs and my budget.
Nick came highly recommended by a friend who has known his family for the last 20 years. His parents are in this business too. I signed up with Nick because he was willing to work with me on my list of things to do. The thing I liked about him is the transparency about costs and schedules. I sent him my list of things to do in a spread sheet and he filled in the material costs as well as the labor costs. I really liked this about him because it let me decide which things he could do and which I could do to stay within the budget. I referred to this spread sheet when we changed our mind in between the project and I took more of the activities to keep the project cost with in the budget.
Nick's very prompt in returning calls and is very well organized. He's very comfortable with change in direction due to change in
plans. He believes in getting things done right and minimizing long-term maintenance costs. He?s my go-to guy from now on!.
