He did not show up the first time. He reached out again and we set up another in person- he showed up on time. His assessment and idea on how to paint the house - seemed like it was cutting corners. Of my five quotes, he's the only one that suggested doing it his way. The others told me that was not the right way to do it. I don't think he wanted to put in the effort. I never did get the quote - he passed on it. Seemed like a nice enough guy though would not recommend him. To spend all that time where he didn't show and I waited and then he shows and still no quote...wasted time.

Their price was quite good and they were professional, but I just decided to go with a different painter. They come out and estimated the job. They spent quite a bit of time going over the job. They were one of the best prices.
Response from Midwest Painting

"Thank you for considering Midwest Painting."

It was terrible. He was suppose to sand everything and stain the windows. He left the wood rough after staining. He only stained certain parts so now my windows are different colors. Opened the window in my office and stripped the screws and now my window locks will not work. I reached out to him on the 24th via email to inform I was unhappy. He was suppose to come out this week and never showed up.
Response from Midwest Painting

"We were contracted to do inside and out work for this customer. The work included checking and caulking all the windows on the exterior. Interior touch up tops of 6 windows that were damaged and stained . These windows were in very bad shape due to being left open and water sitting on them for long periods of time. I personally went out and did these windows and exterior work myself. The customers sister was there to let us in and oversee the work and pay us. When the work was completed the sister inspected all areas of work inside and out and was happy with the work. She wrote us a check and sign the invoice that states that all work has been inspected and completed to customer satisfaction. If this work was so terrible why did you pay us and sign a invoice? I believe this is a customer trying to get something for nothing. We will refund nothing. Thank you Steve Pfister"

I received a number of quotes for painting my house and chose Midwest.  Steve, the owner, came out on the date and time promised, and gave a detailed paper quote.  The job was done well and to my satisfaction, while on-site the painter
explained in detail to me any questions I posed. I would recommend this firm to others.

I needed two or three estimates on getting my home stained and the stucco painted (surrounding three windows and partial above the homes entryway)  after already having JO-MAXED, pressure washed, and scrubbed down my ranch house on June 10th. I was going to supply the stain/paint which I had already purchased so it was a matter of labor cost. One of my estimates was from a "highly rated" company (as is Midwest Painting by the way) who had done interior work for me before but the weather had backed them up to the middle of August! I couldn't wait that long. My next estimate from another company was $800 higher than the prior estimate! Being desperate I went back to Angies List and found Midwest Painting and gave them a call. Steve Pfister, the owner, came out and I immediately showed him my two prior estimates and asked if he could match the lowest and also get me on his schedule sooner than August! He agreed but mentioned the current weather had backed him up as well but that he'd definitely get this house done before August. The weather finally became agreeable July 9th (one month after power washing) Steve arrived with Jason to start on the north side of my home which was getting only one coat of stain (other three sides two coats). Jason, being one man, finished the north side of my home by himself and left for the day. I called up Steve to see how two coats could be applied the following day (recommended drying time between coats was 5 hours based on worse conditions) to the remainder of the house. Based on low humidity and good weather he stated that the three men showing up tomorrow would circle the remaining three sides allowing for 2-3 hours between coats as they worked elsewhere. The following day promptly Steve's crew showed up and started banging out the job. They complete their work by 4:30 pm and had even given my stucco two coats of paint that I wasn't expecting. On each day the area of my home was cleaned up and supplies stored neatly with no problems! All of Steve's men were pleasant and professional! The house looks great and I have piece of mind as I wanted to get this done last year but time wasn't on my side. I now have two good companies I can call for estimates in the future as they have done prior work on my home with excellent results and reasonable pricing (although Steve kinda lucked out on the estimation but was agreeable once he knew who the *bidders* were.. fellow GRADE A Angie List companies such as his!). Once they've done good work for you it's no longer hard to know who to call in the future!!

Steve came out to discuss the work on April 7th and said he would email a contract.  We never received any contract, phone call, email or other contact, so called him again on April 21st.  He said he would send someone out within the next two weeks to begin the work and bring the contract.  Nobody ever showed up, and we heard nothing.  We attempted to call again near the end of May.  We left several messages to find out what was going on, but never heard back.  We are now mid-season and will have great difficulty finding another painter with an opening in their schedule to come perform the work that Steve broke his promise on.
This is extremely UNPROFESSIONAL.  We can't imagine who would give him a positive review.
Response from Midwest Painting

"NO WORK DONE HERE ....Due to the overwhelming amount of rain and bad weather it has set us behind schedule. I'm sorry we can't get to you right away but I did tell you that we would be able to get you as soon as the weather is good. Most exterior painting companies are behind because of the bad weather.. Exterior surfaces need to be dry. when it rains it takes time for things to dry up. We have other customers that are waiting as well and they do understand.. As far as our A ratings by 99% of our customers it is well deserved because of 30 years of outstanding work. Good luck finding a new painter because I'm sure whoever you call will probably be behind as well."

They did an excellent job!   We had hired a paint company 5 years ago (one of the college kid paint services) and found some short comings in their work over the past 5 years  (peeling paint on ill prepared surfaces, paint drippings on brick and deck, painted over rotten areas on 2nd story).    Midwest painting came in and completely repaired and replaced all rotten areas (even under gutters), applied two coats of high quality paint (no upcharge or mark up on materials) and caulked areas in need.   Once completed, they power washed and cleaned our deck (large deck), stained.......and placed all the furniture back once dry (after they had been paid).   Their cost was less than what we paid the college kids by a $1,000 +, 5 years ago......and it included our deck work which the college kids did not do.
I am fussy on detail, and Midwest Painting did an outstanding job!   The owner (Steve) has a great crew of people working for him and they truly understand quality detail work.   I will hire them again.

No response from company on quoting an interior commercial painting job.  Will be putting on my Do Not Contact Vendor list.  If a company doesn't even respond to a request for quote, I certainly will not entertain doing business with them in the future.

Steve Pfister promptly returned my call for an estimate and visited the site within a few days. We chose Midwest Painting based on Steve?s knowledge and experience painting Hardie siding, his competitive bid, and his communications with us.

Steve and his team came on the scheduled date, power washed the house, patio and walkway, and even did the brick side of the house and chimney that they did not work on. The next day they primed the areas that were peeling, started painting the Hardie siding, and sealed the front walkway.  The second day, they finished the back of the house and patio.  They also found a few loose boards that they nailed in place and painted the top of our bay window. We were most impressed by their attention to detail, neatness, and no damage to our landscape. We are very pleased with the results and will definitely call them for our next painting project.

Did two coat of painting thoroughly around exterior frames. Some areas with primer.
Did  a fair job cleaning up the ground after the paint work done.
Steve would try to save money for the home owner when it comes to buying paint during the sales weekend.
There is one follow-up item  - pushing down nails which look like some tiny bubbles in paint. It is minor. But, it needs to be done.
Would work with Steve on scheduling.
Overall,  they did a good job.

I messaged Steve thru Angie's list and had a response the same day. I had additional questions on whether the cost included gutters, eaves and fascia. (it did). I also mentioned I had a gazebo that is maintenance free (haha - it's got covered wood - so mostly maintenance free!). Steve called me after this message so he could explain the process. We set up a time for him to come look at the house and gazebo. He was prompt and again explained what he would do. At that time he gave me a final estimate. He  scheduled us for later in the week and was able to do it a day earlier than expected.
The power washing made a big difference and I would highly recommend Midwest Painting again.

Steve and his guys were very professional, prompt and friendly.  They moved all the furniture, covered everything and put everything back when they were done.  I don't think the guys ever took a break during the day.  It was a 3 1/2 day project and while they were working you would never even know they were in the house.  When they were done we could not find a drop of paint that had been spilled.  We have already recommended Midwest Painting to friends and family.

Steve called within five minutes of my contacting him.  He was cordial and very accommodating on the phone.  We made an appointment for him to come out and assess the job and give me an estimate and he showed up exactly on time--Saturday morning at 9:00AM.
I received three other estimates, but chose Steve, not just because his estimate was the most competitive, but his attitude was so positive and he explained very clearly what had to be done--and what didn't.  He did not try to build up the job by including things that really didn't need repair.  I wouldn't have known the difference.  He really could have taken advantage of my ignorance of such things, but he didn't.  As a matter of fact, he noticed a couple of small things needing  attention and I don't think he even charged me for them.
Here's the best part.  Steve and his people showed up, once again on time and finished the job in two days.  They were efficient, careful and neat.  The work was done beautifully and the bill came in less than I expected!
I have asked him to do more work for me later in the season.  Midwest Painting is now my "Go To" company.
Enthusiastically,
Fran Goldman

Steve returned my call promptly and came out to give me an estimate. His quote was such that I didn't bother getting other prices. He dropped off ladders, drop cloths and caulk ahead of time and his painter began on Friday even though he said the work would begin on Monday. His painter did a great job and left the areas he painted clean. I am considering using him for a larger interior painting job.

Our house had some rotting fascia board and the wood around the windows was in poor condition.    It was hard to know how much wood would need replacing, and apparently a former owner had done some patch jobs using poor materials and all that had to be redone (not known at the time of the quote).  The extra work did not increase the labor costs charged, and the house looks great.

Steve the owner said he would provide a certificate of insurance when we sat down to sign the contract. I told him I wanted it before so I could have a chance to review it, he then declined the job.
This wasn't about policy coverage limits only proof of coverage at all!! Steve would not send a cert of insurance upon customer request which should be standard practice.  I meerly grew frusterated when most of the companies we were considering were asked to provode a cert of insurance they simply didnt have one- hence the "weeding out". Most people dont know enough to ask.
Response from Midwest Painting

"Customer informed us he was weeding out contractors over the amounts of insurance they have .This seemed very unusual to us to weed out conractors over there policy amounts. So we declined to do any work for him.Just makes me wonder why they are looking for the best policy. We are fully insured and can proove it.Thirty years in buisness with an A rating and Just protecting ourselves . You give an F rating because we delined to do work for you??? UNFAIR RATING"

Project started on time but was completed late due only to the constant rain which caused the delay. Crew was very respectful to us as clients and made sure we were happy as the project progressed with everything that was being painted. Owner came every day to monitor progress and instruct his crew.
Painter always advised us when to move our cars out of the spraying paints way, due to wind
Last day crew worked as long as it took to complete the house paint so it didn't run into another week. This was considerate on their part and we had been plagued by all the rain. Good tidy up, all empty materials removed.
Only two minor complaints. I would have preferred to be told if they were not coming due to potential rain as I was keeping their equipment in my garage and needed to know as I work in the field at times and am not always at home. The last time they did call me.
One day they left my water hose running after they had left. I was home so could hear it and turned it off but it could have been running for hours.
I would hire Midwest Painting agent and would recommend to all my neighbors. Their price was much better than a competitor but the deciding factor was the nice attitude and ability to get on the job fairly quickly.

The cedar siding of my home was in great need of repair and painting as well as the soffit and fascia.  The paint had faded and the peeling and blistering most severe.  Also needing repair and painting were the window frames, garage door and the front and back doors.  From Angie's List I selected Midwest Painting (after interviews with other contractors).  Mr. Steve Pfister, the owner was very gracious to respond quickly to my telephone call, and made an appointment to come and inspect and make a proposal. He arrived early on the appointed day, and he was very personable and professional. He took a long time to do a thorough inspection of the entire house, and explained carefully what needed to be done and especially a thorough preparation of all surfaces before painting was most important.  He said, "I can do this house." Steve sent me his job proposal and was ready to do the work as soon as it stopped raining.  On he day of the appointment, Steve arrived and his team Sean and Bobby.  They were also polite and professional and got right to work and power washed all of the surfaces with a mildewcide solution.  The weather was perfect for drying, and the next day the process of preparation and painting began.  Sean and Bobby worked very hard scraping and sanding and repairing cracks.  Steve came every day to inspect and guide.  I was very pleased with the paint that Steve recommended, Sherwin-Williams specific for peeling and blistering.  Also Steve had done an excellent match of the existing color (took a sample from an unfaded area). All of the work took three days, not counting the power wash day.  I am so pleased with the results. Every area beautifully done and the color of the paint perfectly matched and with a soft sheen to it.  My home looks new and beautiful. And there is a generous guarantee on the work and products.  Thank you Steve and team.  Thank you Angie's List.  Thank you and praise for the One Who always guides me.
