Luke's team spent an entire day removing the tree from our yard. They took all branches and most of the trunk of the tree that day. The following day they came back removed the remaining tree debris and cleaned the gutters. The workers were very professional and did a great job cleaning up. Luke had the stump ground down 3 times until he was satisfied. I was very pleased with their work. I felt the price was very reasonable for the services provided.
Lucas landscaping said they brought 16yds of mulch. I had to ask the men why I didn't rec. 20yds. Had to call someone to ask why I did rec. 20yds. They said the men were going to spread 16 yds and see if I liked it and then only charge me 16yds. Funning but none of the workers told me that upfront or the owner. If I am the customer and I ordered and paid for 20 why not give the customer 20 yds?. Nobody from Lucas was at my house to estimate how much mulch I needed - How can they make the assumption with no communication to the customer of what they are purchasing - 20yds. None of the men on the job mentioned the shortage of mulch, until I told them I should have two truck loads 20 yds. I called the manager, he said they brought 16 yds and he would bring another truck load of 6 yds. Saying he gave me an extra of 2yds. Just some FYI, when I ordered the mulch, the lady taking the order said they would bring two truck loads of 12 yds, because 12 is the max for there trucks. So did Lucas only give me 12 yds on the first truck load and then 6 yds on the second truck load -- Who knows. What everyway you look it, Lucas calls the shots with the customers money with no upfront communication why.
We called several landscapers in mid-May which was a very busy time for them. One of them never returned my call and the other gave the $950.00 estimate. I went to a local mulch yard that I found on Angie's List and they gave me the name of Lucas Landscaping that could do the work for us.
Luke Thomas called within a couple of hours after I left a message and made an appt. for two days later to come give an estimate. He ran about an hour late but did call to let me know he was running behind. He brought samples of different kinds of mulch and placed them in the garden so I could see the differences between each sample. He gave an estimate of $800.00 for mulch and labor to do the entire yard and said he was building a little extra in, just in case we needed it.
The day his workers were to come spread the mulch, it had been raining quite a bit that morning and the previous days. They were almost an hour past their arrival time when Luke called to ask if it could be postponed for a day as he was worried the wet grass would be ruined by the wheelbarrows hauling the heavy mulch. We agreed for them to come the next day. Two men arrived the next morning, again nearly an hour late but did a great job and cleaned up the yard nicely when they were done. They asked me to accompany them around the yard to be sure they had gotten everything done the way I wanted. They had extra mulch left over and took that back to the mulch yard and Luke called to say it would cost us $700 instead of the $800 he had estimated.
We were pleased with the work, and the cheaper price. I do intend to call them again for other landscaping projects.
Had to ask for a return visit for leftover visible perennial roots but did not have to play a waiting game. They came back almost immediately and corrected the and quot;leftoversand quot;.
Was very pleased with the work done. The price was very fair and the crew very personable. Would highly recommend at the time of work done.
Update: after the winter came and went lesson learned......don't judge a book by its cover!
This past spring and summer 2014, the perennials grew back. We paid someone to help me remove them.
The sod over the area where the other tree was removed is an opportunity to twist your ankle because the grading is uneven and unnoticeable until you try to walk across or mow the area.
Called them this spring, for a spring clean up. The date came and went. No show, no call for over a month. The owner finally called back to say sorry. He told me he was and quot;very busyand quot; and and quot;forgotand quot; plus and quot;I gave you a great price to remove the treesand quot;. I am glad he is busy. It is not smart to forget to call your customer, and he gave us a fair price to remove the trees. We used him since he was working next door.
Tried to start fresh with the company and pay them to come back and remove the root system. and plant a new tree...that was back in June. Still waiting for them to get back to me for that job after a nice young man came out to see what I needed. Asked to have some bushes trimmed. No problem he said, $75 someone would come back....still waiting for that call back too.
We paid someone else $400 to remove the leftover tree roots. We paid our lawn guy $40 to trim the bushes. Too bad.
All work was completed fully, and we were most grateful to Luke and the entire team. He had a very experienced tree man for the work requiring an expert. The sum for the work was substantially less than either of the other two estimates I had received.
