"This customer purchased the coupon in Sept. 2010, with an expiration date of Sept 2011. The Angie's List Deal was in fact expired for two years, when she contacted me in Jan 2013. I still have the email in an Angie's List folder. I told her at the time I'd be happy to talk with her about it to see what we can work out in the future. Unfortunately, I explained to her that I couldn't help her at the time because I had just been operated on that month & undergoing radiation at the time. I don't feel I need to give any more of my personal medical information in response to this. This person was aware of my situation, but never contacted me again. It seems very unfair and unfeeling of someone to post an "F" rating against me knowing my medical circumstances when she called 2 years after the deal expired.."
"The actual fee charged to this client was $335. In December, I received an email from him asking how his money was spent. Our first meeting was for $35, which I went to with a broken elbow, because they were in a hurry to get started on their home. I spent at least 2 hours there, with my assistant, to help me take notes, pictures, and measurements. At this meeting, their priorities were floor plans and window treatments and promised to hire me to select furniture and paint colors. With this in mind, I gave them a lot of my design time for free. All my travel time is at no charge too. Here is my email reply to him about how his money was spent. The floor plans/3d Drawings I designed for you included 3 rooms, which I normally charge 2 hours for each room. That would have been 6 hours of my time, but I discounted you and charged only 3 hours. I left all those drawings with you at no extra charge. When I came out on October 15th, to select window treatments and review my plans/3d drawings with both of you. I was there for 3 hours, but charged for only 1 hour. I revised your room to change the TV into the corner area on October 16th and emailed it to both of you at no charge. My window treatment person and I met with your wife on Octber 30th along with the installer to verify the correct sizing for the living room and dining room window treatments at no charge. There were over 20 window treatments ordered. It turned out 6 of the less expensive were not as ordered. My window treatment person and her supplier offered to replace those 6 or give her a refund of $250 from the supplier and $50 from my window treatment person. The clients decided to keep the window treatments. The factory paid them $400 to make them happy. This is what my client's wife wrote to my window treatment person: Thank you. I know this transaction did not go as smoothly as we both had hoped. I wish you the best of luck. In conclusion, the design fee they paid me, was actually refunded to them with a little extra money to boot."
"In response to this post, I would like to mention that this was a 3-hour Angie’s big deal coupon. On my first visit, I arrived 15 minutes early, as I usually do when going to a new client’s home. I usually wait in my car until the actual time of the appointment, but the client happened to be in the yard with their dog. My next visit, I arrived about 5 minutes early. For their 3 hour deal, the client was first interviewed on the phone. I explained that the first hour would be a personal analysis of their home & needs on site. The first visit, I stayed 1 ½ hours, but only counted it as one hour. The homeowner explained that she wasn’t happy with the layout of her family room or several chairs she had already purchased. I made some suggestions at this time for the layout, but she said she didn’t like any of them. She already had 3 floor plans from a designer at a major store where she purchased the chairs and she didn’t like any of those designs. During this visit, she requested that I look at the master bathroom which they were going to remodel and asked for my design opinions. Also, she spoke to me about new chairs for the living room & updating the fireplace with a new surround, mantle, and hearth. At this time, I took measurements of the family room & the living room fireplace. I gave a few suggestions about the master bathroom and maybe using the 2 chairs she already purchased in the living room, instead of storing them in their home office. At home, I did one floor plan & one 3D drawing for the family room, rather than my usual 2-3, because she already had 3 additional floor plans. Since she had mentioned more seating, different seating (possibly smaller chairs) and placement of seating, and a TV stand, I began my homework in search of these items. The drawings and the research took 2 ½ hours. As a designer, we have our go-to sites, furniture stores, and partners. On my second visit which lasted another 1 ½ hours, I brought in my laptop to show her all my ideas. I left her with copies of the floor plan/3-D drawings. I showed her photos of not only chairs, but a corner TV stand, suggested I had a wonderful carpenter that could make her a custom piece to complement her other furniture in the room, ideas for their Master Bathroom including shower doors and mirrors for a discount through one of my vendors, and the fireplace mantel. They had a huge window seat in this family room. I brought in a fabric sample to show her that my reupholster could make a beautiful window seat pad to provide that extra seating and add a touch of color & texture to the room. If she didn’t like that idea, while I was there I rearrange some of the items she had sitting there to make it look less cluttered & more decorative. My entire work for this client, which I was paid for only 3 hours at a discounted rate, took me 5 ½ hours to work on, not counting my travel time and the extra time I spent emailing her more photos and my vendors names & numbers. The client was not charged for any of my extra time and effort. I am always professional and give all my clients 110%."
"IN RESPONSE TO THIS REPORT, I SPENT SEVERAL HOURS WITH THIS CLIENT SELECTING COLORS THAT COMPLEMENTED AND FLOWED FROM THE EXISTING LIVING ROOM COLORS. I GAVE HER SEVERAL DIFFERENT FAUX FINISH OPTIONS FOR THE DINING ROOM AND FOYER. IT IS FURTHER MENTIONED THAT I WANTED HER TO TELL ME WHAT SHE WANTED. WHEN DOING A COLOR ANALYSIS, IN ADDITION TO VIEWING THEIR HOME, I ASK MY CLIENTS WHAT ARE THEIR FAVORITE AND NON-FAVORITE COLORS. WHEN I FINISH THE COLOR ANALYSIS & SELECTIONS, I WANT MY CLIENTS TO HAVE THEIR HOME REFLECT WHO THEY ARE, ALONG WITH A WOW FACTOR. I ALWAYS LEAVE THE CLIENTS WITH LARGER PAINT CHIP SAMPLES IN ORDER TO VIEW THEM AT DIFFERENT TIMES OF THE DAY/EVENING. AFTER WORKING WITH THIS CLIENT AND SENDING OUT A PAINTER TO GIVE HER AN ESTIMATE, I DID RECEIVE AN EMAIL FROM HER, STATING THEY WEREN’T ENTIRELY CONVINCED ABOUT THE PAINT COLORS, NEEDED MORE TIME, AND PERHAPS I COULD GIVE THEM SOME OTHER COLOR SCHEMES. I OFFERED TO CALL HER TO DISCUSS AND SET UP ANOTHER MEETING. HER LAST EMAIL STATED, THEY WOULD KEEP THE COLOR SUGGESTIONS FOR THE TIME BEING, GET BACK TO ME WHEN SHE WASN’T AS BUSY AND THANKED ME FOR MY HELP. MY PAINTER AND I NEVER HEARD FROM HER, WHICH IS WHY I AM SURPRISED BY HER GRADING AND COMMENTS. IN CONCLUSION, COLOR IS MY PASSION AND MY COLORS ALWAYS FLOW FROM ONE ROOM TO ANOTHER, NOT ALWAYS MATCHING OR WITHIN A “SET COLOR SCHEME,” BUT COMPLEMENTING EACH OTHER. MY GOAL AS A DESIGNER IS TO DEFINE MY CLIENTS’ STYLE BY EXPANDING THEIR VISION."
