I hired this company to maintain my pool. Within 3 weeks of them maintaining it, it went from crystal clear to green. Over the next 3 weeks it got worse and worse. I fired them and they are charging me for the visits since it turned green as well as closing the pool (which was never done) and for supplies that were never used. They are upset that they don't know how to maintain pools and got fired. This is a total scam company.
Response from DOWNES SWIMMING POOL CO
"there are false facts in this review. we took over the service account and provided our first weekly maintenance on 7/26. upon arrival the pool was very cloudy. The water was so unballanced that you could not see halfway to the floor. our service team immediately cleared up the pool. We then continued service on 8/1, 8/8 and 8/15 with the pool and water clean and clear. at each service a report is filled out and emailed to the client's assistant. included in the report is the chemicals we provided. On 8/22, upon arrival, the pool had algae. chlorine and algaecide were added to reduce or eliminate the algae. at each service the algae had to be brushed which then stirs up the water and will turn it green until the filter clears the water. on 8/22 i emailed the client to report that algae was present and that I suggested a follow up service but needed approval. I never received that approval. The way to eliminate algae is to brush it often and shock the water more than 1/week. all the chemicals invoiced were provided and used on this pool. We did not invoice the client for the pool winterizing. on 9/9 I received an email from the client stating he is removing the above ground pool and to stop service. The client then said he isnt paying the bills. we provided 6 weekly maintenance services for this pool. those services and the chemicals were the only items invoiced. His pool is only serviced 1/week. There is no warranty on pool water clarity. we are there to vacuum, skim, brush, clean the filters and adjust water chemistry. those services were provided. There is no reason for name calling or slander. All we ask is that we are paid for the services provided. The client is now making multiple negative online reviews in retaliation of having to pay these invoices."

I would highly recommend them. They did excellent service. It was great to deal with for a pool company.

They performed services that were not requested and we had a lot of issues with getting the billed resolved. They really overcharge for chemicals used in cleaning the pool and their customer service is really poor.
Response from DOWNES SWIMMING POOL CO
"We built this pool and performed opening, weekly maintenance and winterizing services for the previous client for over 10 years. We performed the same services per the signed agreements. There were 2 invoicing issues. One was a gas leak that we located and repaired at the gas valve on the pool heater. The home owner told us after the work that she had another contractor look at it. We ended up crediting the item on the invoice even though we performed the service. The other issue was 10 winter cover bungie cords we provided at the winterizing. The client stated she had the bungie cords already. We made MANY, MANY attempts to communicate and resolve the invoice. We tried to make arrangements to pick up the bungie cords that the client did not want. I e-mailed and called the client several times without a return call or e-mail. The product eventually was returned and as a result the product was credited."

I was not pleased. The tech came to the house when he was supposed to and diagnosed the issue. He told me they would order the part and he would return to replace it. He said it usually too 7-10 days to get the parts in. 3 weeks later I called and was told they had been waiting for me to call them and give them the OK to go ahead. I was never told that. Even if I had been why wouldnt they have called to find out if I was going ahead? Anyway after another delay the part came in and was replaced. The issue was never with the tech---the office dropped the ball and then tried to make it seem like that was my fault.
Response from DOWNES SWIMMING POOL CO
"At the time of the initial service call we provided the home owner a verbal cost for the proposed product and labor. The technician instructed the home owner to call the office if he wanted to proceed with the work. The client called 3 weeks later to check the status of the work. At that time we told him the part was never ordered since our office did not get approval to proceed. At that time he gave us the approval, the product was ordered and installed. There was miscommunication between the client and the technician. We apologized for this and installed the product as soon as it arrived."

The whole experience was very positive. My initial contact with the company was friendly and I was able to get a lot of information simply over the phone. Setting an appointment was easy and they were able to come out when I needed them. Jeff, the inspector was prompt, professional, and showed a real interest in my understanding the pool situation.

Pretty well, though there seemed to be a lack of coordination with scheduling the field service.

We are so glad we found them. They have been immediately responsive every time we needed them. They cost a bit more than our old pool service, but it is totally worth it. All of the problems we had with our previous service were eradicated once we switched to this company. They send me the same crew every week who is so nice.

Very professional. They did a beautiful job plastering the pool. They work on Saturdays - which I love! They also have an emergency # for after hour calls - which I did have to use and they were able to help me.

This company is excellent. We have experienced many, many unqualified pool maintenance companies, and Downes has by far been the best. They cleared up an algae problem for us that no one else could. They follow through and have finished installing lights and tiles for us as well. They are a bit more expensive that other weekly maintenance companies ($80 a week for cleaning and vacuuming), but they are worth it!! Their employees are professional and very knowledgeable.

THE QUALITY OF WORK WAS GOOD, BUT THE COMMUNICATION WAS POOR. A DISPUTE AROSE ABOUT A CLEARANCE THEY GAVE ON A LANDSCAPE. THE CONTRACTOR RAN A BOBCAT OVER SOME COVERED MECHANICALS, THERE WAS A GAS LEAK DUE TO THIS. WE WERE CHARGED $2600 TO GET THAT FIXED. IN FAIRNESS THE LAST TIME WE HIRED THROUGH THIS COMPANY WE GOT A GOOD POOL TECHNICIAN. THIS TIME THE POOL TECHNICIAN WAS PATRONIZING AND COMMUNICATED POORLY.
