SHAG BARK PET RETREAT & SPA

Shagbark Pet Retreat & Spa is such a great local place you can rely on when you need to leave your family pet to be cared for while you are away from home. All of the staff that I have been in contact with are always friendly, attentive and professional. My pet dog just loves her visits. She wags her tail every time I drop her off and pick her up. Also, I love hearing about her behaviors with her end of visit report card. The prices are reasonable and the facility offers many extras to help comfort your pet while he/she is visiting. I have used their services for the past 3 years and have been very pleased each time. I would definitely recommend this pet retreat & spa if you are in need of one. Your pet(s) will be well cared for and loved in your absence.

We have been using Shag Bark for several years now. For our 2 dogs. We use the day care 4 times a week and we board our pups there several times a year. We have also gone through many training classes, starting with various obedience classes when our dogs were young. Now we are involved in their Nose Work training. This is a sport that our dogs absolutely love! The trainer, Cathi, has worked with us through different experience levels and she has also encouraged us to compete (for those who are interesting in taking it to that level). I highly recommend Shag Bark for any of your pet care needs!

We’ve been going to Shagbark for years, and we’ve had nothing but positive experiences, with boarding, grooming, daycare, and training. We recently started scent work classes with our golden retriever, Jack, and he LOVES it! The instructor, Cathi, provides variety each week, and makes the class really fun for the dogs as well as the handlers. I highly recommend scent work if you’re looking for something different and challenging to do with your canine family member.

Shag Bark is always great with our pups. The report card we receive after each visit allows us to feel comfortable knowing she was well taken care of.

Our pups are our children. We are very careful about with whom we leave them. I have used Shag Bark for over 14 years and they are amazing, simply top notch. The staff at Shag Bark take their jobs very seriously and are professional and skilled in all that they do. We have used the groomer there as well and have been pleased with the results. Our pups are always returned to us in good condition without any noticeable signs of anxiety or neurosis (always ready to go home, but in good spirits). I absolutely cannot stand to leave my pups behind, but when it is necessary, I feel confident in trusting Shag Bark.

Shag Bark Pet Retreat & Spa always has my dog super excited to visit and return the next day. Hershey has super bad anxiety and can't be left home by himself, but Shag Bark is a home away from home. The staff is always super friendly and enthusiastic and always knows when Hershey is coming and leaving. They take such good care of him and work with him everyday to socialize him with other dogs. And I love receiving report cards and arts and crafts of him when I bring him back home! I would recommend this place to everyone with a 11/10 rating!

They take really good care of Cody. They give you a sheet that tells you how they did during their stay. They have doggy daycare so they get to play with other dogs during the day.

Our YorkiePoo," Beeg" , loves Shag Bark and all the staff. She was a rescue 8 years ago and was initially very nervous, frightened, and sometimes aggressive, We took her to Brian for his advice and assessment. We were sold on Shag bark from her first visit to the present. We just picked her up from an 8 day boarding,and she was happy, clean,and the staff obviously loves her. She is now 13 yrs.old and is a picky eater and needs lots of attention, We knew we could leave her and not have to worry. When your dog is excited as soon as you pull into the driveway you know it's a great place!

This place has great attention to detail. My dog needs lots of medication when boarding and they manage it well. We take her for daycare on a random weekend day to clean the house (she's deathly allergic to dust) and they do a good job of tiring her out. She's grown attached to some of the workers there and looks forward to going. $30 for daycare and $60 for 1 night of boarding (plus following day's daycare)

Great! We have an Old English Sheepdog named Willoughby and use Shagbark for all our boarding needs. He loves it there and as much as he hates to be away from us he actually gets excited when we walk into the lobby. We also use their daycare services periodically and also use this on alternating days when he is being boarded there as this gives him the chance to play and interact with other dogs. He is very social and I am very happy to have this option. They post pictures on Facebook daily and it is very comforting to be able to see him having fun while we are away on vacation. Brian, the owner, and his staff are top notch professionals and just very nice people. I can't recommend them enough.

I just cannot say enough good things about Shagbark.     I travel a lot and can always depend on Shagbark to take care of Koko just as well as I can.    Most recently, I had to leave Koko at Shagbark for a two week stay.   I expected that he would be a little "off" when I picked him up.   But he was just as normal as could be - because of the excellent attention he receives.   Koko seems to really love it there.   And the people at Shagbark really seem to love their work.  They truly care for the animals as if their own and are very creative in their care.  (The Halloween Spooktacular was amazing.  Koko even came home with a craft project !)       Koko is a nervous little toy poodle - but he is right at home at Shagbark.     I recommend Shagbark to anyone who needs to board their pet.

Let me first say that my Chihuahua is not real friendly. In fact she may bite if she doesn't know you. She absolutely loves it at Shag Bark. She gets lots of TLC there. She came home clean and happy.

We have had Chita about 5 years now. Its a long story but I literally found her in the middle of the road looking up at cars going both ways. We went out of town shortly after that and boarded her at Shag Bark. When we got back a tech carried her out of the back and put her on the floor. She ran over and licked my hand then ran back to the tech. The people that work at Shag Bark are really great and Chita love them. When we have to board its ALWAYs Shag Bark

Diesel is my baby and he's as much a part of my family as a human child would be. He used to go to another daycare in Lake County and after a visit to Shag Bark in May 2013, he will never go anywhere but Shag Bark! Diesel is a momma's boy but as soon as we walk in the front office he goes to the side door becasue he knows thats the way to get ot his friends so he can play all day. I love that he enjoys it so much. Other area daycares just have a big room and toss out tennis balls. Shag Bark has a great outside exercise area as well as inside and the staff interactions with the pups is great. When he comes home he's not just physically exhausted he's also mentally exhausted. My dog has attended doggy daycare and been boarded here many times. She has always received excellent care. She has recurring illnesses and they take very good care of her, attending to her special needs. She always comes home as happy as if she hadn't been away. She has been other places where she was obviously stressed and eager to leave, but not Shag Bark.

I was hesitant going in because it's a barn-like structure and the receptionist was not very warm. In fact, I almost grabbed my boys and left. But, when I picked up, I was met by the owners and groomer. They were very warm, friendly and caring. They allowed me to tour the kennel off hours and were very accommodating. My dogs were in serious need of grooming and they came back looking beautiful! Also, without the goofy kerchief's or bows. They looked like clean, elegant, beautifully groomed show dogs. And, they completed the work early. It did take me about 3 weeks to get in for a Saturday appointment but weekdays were more readily available. Professionalism was great - except the reception on intake. Final bill was a little higher than estimate but reasonable and worth it given how much hair they had to deal with.
