Hawk Masonry

I met Jason when I saw him working on a neighborhood project. I could tell from watching him lead his crew that he had excellent masonry skills. Jason specializes in historically accurate masonry, and he knows how to ensure the work he does will last. I have called him back for multiple projects on multiple properties, and I regularly recommend him if he is available. Availability is an issue. He has a small crew and personally does a lot of the work himself. I have been so happy with his work that I regularly call well in advance of any deadline I have, and I am patient with the issues of working in Chicago weather. Rain and cold can easily put him behind on outdoor projects, but he works long days and Saturdays to get caught up when the weather breaks.

Jason is excellent. He tore down the old chimney and built a new one. It's a work of art!

As Condo Board Members, we would like to express our satisfaction of the exemplary work, performance and professionalism of owner, Jason Kaufmann. After viewing the project, Jason provided a detailed written estimate, including the necessary work-to-be-performed, as well as the cost. Jason also had some suggestions which saved us money. He followed with an email providing answers to some questions condo residents had. A start date was scheduled, which again, was immediate and efficient. However, due to unexpected, heavy rain conditions, Jason had to reschedule the start date. Jason and his team showed up promptly and began to work in a very professional way. Jason was personally involved in the work and he informed almost all the residents about what was going on, and when they would be done. His team was so careful about not disturbing the residents, and they left the area very clean at the end of the day. Their work is excellent. They had a couple of follow up visits without any cost to us.
Needless to say, we, as Condo Board Members, are very pleased with Hawk Masonry in all phases of this project and highly recommend them. We would use them in the future.

There were repeated starting date delays, in spite of the owner telling us that he could start our urgently-needed repair job as soon as we approved the contract. Owner made it clear that, because it was a "repair" job only, there were going to be no warranties or guarantees of any kind on the work to be done; also added an additional $150 administrative fee to the final quote, because some condo owners had questions about the meaning of terms and conditions contained in the quote that they did not understand! I would not recommend the contractor to anyone else. The work that was done appeared to be basically done well, but within a few weeks, they had to come back (on an early Sunday morning, no less!) and using open-flame soldering tools worked to re-seal some areas of repaired work that were coming undone already. The crew did do a nice job of cleaning up the site each day.

Professionalism was apparent from my first contact with the owner, Jason Kaufmann, who came for an estimate last fall. He walked the entire property and examined all surfaces. At that time, Jason answered my questions with patience and provided explanations that furthered my understanding of the work to be done. He gave me a written estimate and we agreed to hold the job until this spring, with no raise in price.
When Hawk Masonry was ready to begin the job, Jason called to schedule the appointment. The crew, including the owner, came on time and all were very polite, professional and worked hard throughout the entire time they were present.
After they were finished, Jason showed me every area repaired. They went above and beyond my expectations, including matching the mortar to the existing color, attempting to keep all plantings intact, cleaning up all debris, etc. Jason came back the next day to finish and to re-check the work to make sure there were no issues after the mortar dried overnight.
The completed repairs look great and I was very pleased with all aspects of their work. I recommend Hawk Masonry without reservation.

Jason, of Hawk Masonry, came back to do some additional work and did not charge us any money. And, he did this on a Sunday, in the rain. We are most appreciative of his customer service focus.

Hawk Masonry was referred to me by a friend. Jason came out took a look at my crumbling chimney that was leaking water into the house and explained everything that needed to be done. He provided me an estimate and we were lucky enough to have warm weather to schedule the repair.
They came out built scaffolding and rebuilt the chimney from the roofline up and tuckpointed everything that needed to be done. Every day they cleaned the site up and left everything in order and safe. They finished on time and on budget. matched my bricks put a proper cap on the chimney and it looks great. He also recommended a roofer who did a great job with the flashing around the chimney.
They had a good, hard working crew, and Jason came by afterward to follow up and make sure everything was good.
