I love living in Chicago. However, many condo buildings have minimal, if any, sound insulation between units. Being woken up at night and very early morning by walking upstairs, dropping items, phones going off, talking, tv sounds, footsteps and thuds, dishwasher noise, bodily noises, etc all can lead to lack of sleep, bitterness and unhappiness. This is when I researched the various possibilities for sound abatement for quite some time. I did not want to move as I love the neighborhood, but knew I wanted to make my home a more livable and peaceful environment. This is where Mike and his crew come in. During late winter/early Spring, I called Mike to have him come out to discuss some sound abatement in my condo. He returned my call in a timely manner and we discussed over the phone some of the issues that I was having. He was able to come out soon after for an estimate. During the call and at the estimate time, Mike was prompt, courteous, very professional, trustworthy and thorough. He never made me feel rushed when I asked him the million questions and concerns that I had for taking on such a large project. He listened to my concerns and was prepared with info and pictures to show me what methods Soundproof Chicago uses and the effectiveness of each. Within a day or two, he was able to provide a very detailed estimate with a few options to choose from. After living in the condo a few years, I decided to have a large portion of my condo done with exception to the bathrooms (one can shut the door to block out that noise), laundry room and a small office room and hall closets. I decided to take off the current drywall ceiling and go with the more intense method suggested to reduce more noise. I also had a dividing wall between two bedrooms done to reduce tv noise from room to room and to give more privacy when guests stayed the night. Mike worked with me on getting a date set and was open to my schedule. To book a date, he asks that 1/3 of cost be paid, 1/3 given on the start date and 1/3 at the end after all has been finished. After I booked the date, I had some questions/concerns and called Mike to talk about and he always returned my call and was able to thoroughly answer my questions and take time with me so I was not worried. On the day the construction was to begin, the foreman, Henry, arrived on time and ready to work. I don’t think there is enough space to write about all the positive and awesome attributes of both Henry and Mike and the quality of care and skill they have in what they do, but in short, I would hire them again in an instant if I ever had to. Down-to-earth, really fun to talk to, precise and very skilled. Henry had a lot to manage as he did ½ the condo at a time and he engineered very creative ways to keep the other half clean while working on one side. Each and every day, him and his crew (who were equally as awesome), thoroughly cleaned up after themselves and showed me the progress and where they were at with the project. With any construction, things come up along the way and Mike and Henry were able to solve for the issues that did, and progressed in a timely manner. The project took about 5 weeks to complete as it was a very large area. I did not move out during this time-in hindsight that might have actually been easier as I hover a bit, ok maybe a lot-but Henry was very polite and always made me feel like it was never a burden to have me check in on the work or ask questions throughout. The results? I could not be happier! Sooooooo much more calm and peaceful here! I no longer hear from upstairs the tv noise, talking, machines that run, etc. Footfall noise has been greatly reduced-no longer when someone walks upstairs can they be traced from room-to-room throughout the condo where they are walking to. Rather, only when it is right above me, I can hear slight walking, but that is at least 65-85% less than it was. This has made the living areas incredibly nice to relax in and have people over. For the bedrooms, I no longer am woken up in the middle of the night and early morning. The results are so very positive, and I would do it again in a heartbeat. Since we did not do all of the condo, if those doors are open, you can still hear noise that comes from them from above, but shutting those doors helps a lot. I was in the laundry room the other day, and could hear talking and walking from above and almost forgot how loud it was since the majority of my living areas were now sound-abated and really appreciated the results. Nothing is 100%-one cannot make a condo fully sound-proofed as noise can come in through many areas, but Mike sure does know what he is doing and what will work. The green glue that is used takes time to cure, and I have noticed better and and better results as the weeks have gone by. Mike has passion for what he does and that is evident. He truly cares about making life better and the quality of product he delivers. Ditto for Henry who worked so hard and took such great care of my condo. I had outside painters come in to paint afterwards and it was clear the level of care and professionalism was not nearly that of Soundproof Chicago and really wished they could have done the painting, too! I was nervous taking on this large of project, but it is truly worth it, especially if you like where you live and want to stay where you are. Soundproof Chicago does windows, too, and if I decide to do any sound-proof windows in the future, would not hesitate to call Mike up! Thanks again for a job well-done! The price and the craziness of demolishing/replacing a ceiling is totally worth the results-especially if you have plans to paint in the near future or want to do any other work, it is a great time to do that.
