We bought this house 13 years ago and it had 17 trees on the property. I have used Smitty's for years because they always send out Sandy to review my trees, make suggestions and give me an estimate.. Sandy is one in a million! She is patient, understands trees and takes the time to explain what needs to be done and what I don't need. At times the little green leaves I see are new leaves and I am fine, other times the leaves are little because bugs are eating them. If I am ever unsure, one phone call and Sandy is here to explain it to me. I trust her, and therefore, am very satisfied with Smitty's.

I would absolutely use them again if needed.

Someone came out within a day or two of calling for an appointment and was very professional and knowledgeable.



We accepted on the spot and removal was scheduled to begin in about a week.



1 week later we received a call that they had an opening that afternoon and came and finished in about 2 hours, and another truck came not long after to pick up the large pieces that couldn't go through the chipper.



1 week after that, someone came back to do the stump grinding and root chasing, and was also very professional.



The stump grinding and root chasing did create quite a mess, but they said it would so this was not a surprise. We are having a garage built in the area where one tree was removed so we weren't really concerned about it as the yard will be torn up soon anyway.



I would recommend Smitty's and will use them again if we ever need another tree removed.

I called Smitty's Tree service in July, 2013 to give me advice about three trees that needed trimming. We set an appointment date for an estimator to come view my property. Sandy, the estimator, was prompt, courteous, knowledgeable and professional.

Surprisingly the estimator was a female and the bid to perform the tree trimmings was just about the same as another company's and the timeline to come and do the job was reasonable based on the high demand for tree removal and trimming services because of the severe storm that occurred throughout the Chicago land area during this period.

The crew arrived early, camped out across the street from my home and ate their lunch on the city parkway. Because they were early they didn't notify me of their presence. I only found out they were there when I happened to see four men sitting in the grass and on the curb eating so I walked over to the men once I saw "Smitty's Tree Service" on the trucks and inquired whether they were the crew I was expecting. I feel it was unprofessional for the crew to eat on the parkway within a residential area.

The job was executed quickly and as noted on the estimate diagram. The majority of the woodchips and tree branches were mulched and removed but when it rained several days later my gutters overran due to being clogged with woodchips and pine needles from the trimming of my trees. My gutters had just been cleaned a couple of weeks prior to Smitty's doing the tree trimming and Smitty's crew made no effort to prevent the debris from clogging my down spouts and gutters.

I had to hire a cleaning service to again to clean my gutters and down spouts because care was not taken nor was I informed of the possibility of my gutters becoming clogged

I feel Smitty's Tree Service could easily be an "A" rated company if the crew(s) paid closer attention to details and the surrounding area to ascertain "no hard" has been done to the property.

Punctual and superb work. Carefully navigated around gas and water lines, buried in the roots of the stump. Cleanup of chips was excellent. This is one business that practices what it preaches.

All went well for part one..

The people at Smitty's were great. I told the person I talked to on the phone exactly what I wanted to have done to the tree. They sent someone out the next day to do an estimate. Once they completed the estimate, they called me to tell me what they were planning to do and how much it would cost and that they would leave the actual quote for the work in the mailbox since I was not able to be there.
I contacted a couple other businesses on Angies List and one said he would give me a quote, never did, and the other never returned my call.
I called Smitty's on 11/19 to schedule time for them to come trim the tree next week when I would have some time off and they told me they had an opening the next afternoon and could come do the work then. I told them I wasn't going to be able to be there to pay them, and they told me it was not a problem. They came and did the work exactly as I requested and removed all of the debris that was in the front yard (including the debris that was there from the storm last Sunday!). I called them today to pay them for their services and tell them how happy we were with the work they did.

Sent an email on July 30th to the AOL address they listed, and got no reply (it is now Aug 17th). I was busy moving in and decided to go elsewhere. Maybe my message went to spam but I used the address they gave on Angie's List.

Smitty's was great. The estimate was prompt and I didn't need to be home. When I called to make an appointment, they sent a crew over that day. The stump was removed the following week and the chips picked up the week after. It was pretty darn effortless.

I called on a Saturday afternoon and Sandy came out to give an estimate Monday afternoon. The price was lower than the estimate I'd gotten earlier that day from another company, so I asked her to go ahead and schedule the job. She got back to me that evening after having spoken to the scheduler and the first day they had a block of time sufficient to do the entire job was 10 days out. They understood my concern about the partially fallen limb being a hazard, and said they would work on getting a crew out sooner even if it was only to get the big tree limb and they had to make a 2nd trip for the less urgent removal of another tree. They had a crew here here the next day that arrived a little after 4 PM. They completed the job and were done before 6 PM. The crew was very professional, they were able to preserve a small Japanese Maple that the fallen limb was resting over, and minimize the damage to our landscaping. This is the second time I've used Smitty's and I was very pleased with their ability to address my concerns and overall professionalism. I would not hesitate to use them again or to recommend them to friends.

Price was a bit higher than similar bids, but the quality of the work was very good. The crew were all very polite, working quickly and professionally. They checked with me throughout the job to make sure the work was being done as agreed, and made sure I understood what was being done every step of the way. Importantly, they were on time, and I was given a courtesy call when they were on the way. Finally, the site was left very clean of any debris. I did not have to do any follow-up cleaning after the job was done.

Cut tree quickly. Had plenty of manpower for the job to be done safely, also assisting traffic on our street to get by without any problems. Cleaned up debris from work sight. Only drawback is after stump is ground shavings are left at job site. I would not mind paying to have them removed, but I dId not ask if it were possible. Overall I'm very pleased with their service from office call to the final stump grinding. Nice people to work with.

Estimator was easy to talk to and answered my questions. Customer Service at the office was great. Answered all my questions and got back to me when they said they would. I had multiple quotes from other services and some with lower rates. They were willing to match the best rate and come out within a few days after acceptance. Team arrived on time. They seemed very skilled, coordinated and worked quickly. The large tree had lots of large limbs hanging over my house and my neighbor's, as well. They were very careful and did not cause any damage to either. They were thorough in the clean-up and finished on-time. There were only one problem. The crane they used sprung a major leak and got hydraulic fluid on a part of my lawn, which ended up killing some grass. They came by later and re-sodded the damaged lawn at their expense, without any hassle. Kudos to them for doing that. The only thing i would've done differently is to have the stump grindings removed. It was allot more that I expected. Overall a excellent experience and would recommend them.

Just as planned. No hitches in the planned project at all.

I was very pleased with them. It's extremely easy to deal with them. They were on time. The service was great. They gave me an estimate the day before and they were there the next day. They were right on track. They're great people to do business with. If the people who worked on the tree outside wasn't meeting my satisfaction, they didn't leave before everything was to my satisfaction. They made sure that the yard was cleaned up from any debris that they would've left. They left a clean area.

They were very good and the clean up was very well done.

The estimator from Smitty's arrived on time and tried to be flexible with the price but was unable to meet the quote from another highly rated tree service.

They did a superior job. One of the owners came out 4 or 5 days beforehand to survey the property. give an estimate, and updated me on the health of the tree.They then showed up a week later when they said they would.

They came in force, looking like something from a well produced movie with spotless uniforms! The foreman rang the bell, introduced himself and the company, and told me what they would be doing. He then asked if I had any other questions.

The foreman gave them instructions and they trimmed the tree like clockwork. Whenever a limb, branch or leaf fell, they picked it up and mulched it immediately.

After about 20-30 minutes the tree looked perfect.

They are excellent. I would definitely use them again.

Smitty's is great!!! I have not seen such a hard working group in a long time! My experience with them was an A+ overall. Sandy returned my call right away, which is more than I can say for other companies I contacted. She came out promptly and gave us an estimate. She answered all of our questions and was very helpful. The crew came out right on time and performed the job very admirably. They were very courteous to myself and my family. They were very safe when we took the kids out to watch for a little while too. I would definitely recommend Smitty's to anyone looking to remove or trim trees on their property. Our two trees were hanging over our house pretty far and they were great about taking down branches and not hitting the house.

Smitty's did a good job trimming 2 trees in our back yard. One tree had a lot of dead branches; this is an ash tree. Sandy from Smitty's did a good job managing this job. She was happy to come out twice for price proposals since we added some work to the original bid. Even though the leaves had already fallen from one of the trees (ash tree with dead branches), she assured us that the tree trimmers would be able to identify the dead branches even with the leaves being gone. The office staff was easy to deal with and met our needs.
When the leaves came out on the trees this Spring, we were a little disappointed to see that the ash tree still had a few small branches that were dead with no leaves. Sandy said this was most likely due to disease that strikes ash trees in our area. Because of this, she was not able to meet our request of a no charge follow up service to do the minor job of trimming these few dead branches. Overall, Smitty's did a solidly good job of trimming these 2 trees. The mulberry tree appears to be healthier after the trimming. The work crew that did our job was good. The clean up after the trimming could have been a little better, but it was fairly good. We were satisfied with their good work and would use them again along with recommending them to others.
