By this time we had already gotten the water out of our basement ourselves and we also removed all items from the basement and the crawlspace, except for the furniture because we weren't sure if they would recommend getting rid of it. They told us they would completely dry out the basement and crawl, clean the tile and disinfect, and tear out whatever drywall wouldn't dry. We gave them $1,000 deposit. That day they pulled the baseboards, drilled holes in the drywall and placed fans and humidifiers throughout the basement. They were going to come back in a couple of days to see how it was drying. This is where it all went downhill.
They let their equipment run over that first weekend, said they would be back Monday and never showed up. They said they'd be here Tuesday and my husband even took off early to get here at the time they had promised. They got here late. They assessed the basement and said there were 2 walls that drywall would have to be cut out and that they'd be there the next day to do that. So now we're at Wednesday, April 24th. They were a no show no phone call. They showed up Thursday but they were completely unprepared! They didn't have the proper tools to rip out the drywall and they were kicking it out with their feet. They ended up cutting out too much drywall and now it's going to cost us more to replace it. They were going to come back Friday the 26th to pick up their equipment. We told them they had to be there because we were going out of town for the weekend and we were leaving at 5pm sharp. We ended leaving at 6pm and they never showed up. They came Monday, April 29th.
At the beginning they said the cost would be approximately $2,000. However, they didn't perform all the work that was promised. They didn't clean up after themselves, the estimate included the crawlspace, but they never touched the crawlspace. They didn't clean the tile floor like they said they were going to. There were footprints throughout our kitchen after they left, pieces of drywall trailing out the back door and into the driveway - they didn't mop up after themselves or anything.
We do not believe they did $2,000 worth of work and from what the itemized estimate for repairs from our insurance company shows, we owe them $1,100 ($100 because we paid $1,000 deposit) We don't have an itemized bill from ServPro, which we are going to ask them for. So now here we are 3 months later and this still has not been settled.
In a nutshell ServPro came in, removed baseboards, drilled holes, placed humidifier and fans. Then came back to remove everything - for $2,000? I don't think so...
I will never use ServPro for anything ever again!!!
"This job was during the severe storm last April and our firm, like most restoration companies, was overwhelmed with the sheer volume of work that needed to be done. We did not in any way meet our normal standards of scheduling and communications as we tried to accommodate as many families losses as possible. We don't fully agree with [removed member name]'s view of the quality of service and the scope of work performed, and we stand by the fact that we charged fairly for the work we did perform. We strive to always achieve high customer satisfaction levels, but sometimes storm situations seem to make it impossible. So we do sincerely apologize to the [removed member name] family that they feel they had a less satisfactory experience working with Servpro of Lombard/Addison."

"It was our pleasure to work with you - thanks for the opportunity!"
When all was over, we called and all the cleanup services such as Servpro said they were going to be very busy for many days after the storm. This Servpro office took our name and number, asked us to be patient with them, and they would call us back when they had a ETA. In the mean time, we cleaned up what we could, removed our damaged stuff and dried the area of carpet which was wet, and knew help was coming at some point in time. We'd been through a small flood before and knew the professionals needed to assess the situation and completely remediate the problem.
This Servpro office was the ONLY service which called us back every day to tell us we were getting towards the top of their list and gave a rough idea of what day they would arrive. Kudos to Dave Scaglione for being proactive and calling us to keep us informed. Other clean up services we found and called from Angie's List didn't call us back or made commitments they didn't keep.... but we don't fault them as most of the Chicago area had problems similar to ours.
Six days after the storm, Dave and Chris arrived, quickly assessed the situation and we agreed on the price. They quickly went to work, remediated the problem, cleaned the carpet, and set out fans and a dehumidifier. They called to check on us a couple of times, and even visited a day or two later just to check that everything was drying the way they expected. On that visit Dave readjusted some of the fans, and came back the next day to test again, and removed their equipment.
These guys were awesome. While we hope we never need their services, we know we have a reliable firm to call on for help.
