Briggs Roofing Company

Briggs was very responsive to my inquiry and any questions I had. Company was prompt, cleaned up after themselves (found some roofing nails laying around from tear-off but guess that's to be expected), and roof looks great! Time will tell how it holds up but seems to be well done.

Briggs had installed new shingles on our home 4 years ago and at that time I purchased additional shingles to go on a shop I was planning to build. The shop finally was constructed and I contacted Briggs to install the shingles. I was on a tight deadline because I had to leave town for 10 days and wanted the job completed while I was home. They worked with me, dedicated one of their crew to my job including working Saturday and got the roof on. The roofer was very conscientious, followed my instructions on how I wanted several aspects of the installation performed, kept me informed of his schedule, and the roof looked great when he was finished. I felt the price was fair.

Then never returned our calls.

Briggs gave us a good quote and they came out and did the job quickly and professionally. We did have a problem with their scheduling. They came out a day earlier and we happened to be out of town. They called that morning and we okayed the change but we would have preferred them coming as planned. Also, the next day as they dumped the stacks of shingles on the roof the noise was deafening and the house shook which caused distress to my elderly mother. My husband was there and he went out two times to please ask them to place the stacks of shingles more gently because of how the trailer was rocking and shaking. He spoke with the supervisor and maybe the supervisor didn't communicate well with his crew since they kept dropping the shingles. It took less than two days for them to finish the roof and we were happy with the results.
We needed another roof replaced on a different house this past summer (2012) and we wanted to use Briggs again and called them for a quote. Their price was about 45% higher than the other quotes we received and we went with another company that did a great job.

They did an overall very good job. My one reservation was that they were not up to speed about the snow holding capacity of this roof and that created some problems after the installation. I felt that it should have been in their purview to know how the roof was going to behave with snow and to alert us to the problems before it was installed. The snow slid off the roof in enormous quantities. When you have a big snow at some point, it would just all let loose and the snow would fall the ground in this gargantuan quantities. It could have really injured someone. It was kind of like how a metal roof would behave. They did not know that this was going to happen at the slope of a residential roof and it did. It created a lot of concern. They were really good to work with. The people worked hard to answer questions and resolve scheduling issues. They worked with us to get the roof that we wanted. All those things were very positive.

Originally, the price was quoted as adding a pitch to our slightly sloping roof with insulation under it. The installers said it was not
needed after they had delivered all of the insulation and stacked it in our driveway. They said they would credit our bill for the amount not used, but the bill didn't seem that much less and it wasn't itemized.
Their truck and trailer was pulled into our circular driveway for the procedure, and one day the trailer got loose and plummeted backward into our landscaping, taking out part of a shrub and narrowly missing our peach tree. It also destroyed a stack of vinyl siding that another company had stacked on the side of the driveway as they were re-siding the house at the same time. I felt this was unnecessary carelessness.
One day, without warning, we were standing in the kitchen when the skylight above us was being ripped out. It tore the sheetrock and gravel from the roof came showering down on us and the stainless steel appliances. They said that new codes required that they remove the existing skylight and raise it 2-3 inches higher They did a sloppy job of the skylight moving, with the torn sheetrock left that way and no molding or trim put in place to cover it. We had to pay an outside company to repair their messy job.
Some chimney rock was removed on the base of the chimney so that the membrane could be wrapped up the sides, but they didn't replace the rock they tore out. They told us we would have to hire someone else to do that. I felt they should finish off all aspects of the job.
Our neighbors had recommended them highly, and we feel they did a good job. They worked long hours and showed up every day until completion. I would be careful if they are dealing with skylights however. They did not seem that proficient with ours.

Their rep arrived with a digital camera and an iPad. Delivered by email a detailed inventory of the work (with photos) and worked with me over the months until the terms were finalized. Stayed in touch daily during the work and made corrections as I reported back. The way it should be.
