The only thing I may have wrong is the date. I cannot remember when I had the work done but it was last year.
I waited an entire week for an appointment and dropped my car off early in the morning. But by after lunch, they hadn't even looked at the car. They went forward with the muffler hanger repair when I said it was not important (although the price was reasonable on this item and the work performed was quality). They also were supposed to replace a battery in my remote controlled door opener, but then returned the remote with the back piece missing. I had to go to the dealership to get a replacement since it's a programmable remote.
My car is old (1996) and very high mileage, and I am trying to keep it going a few more months before I purchase another. I am absolutely not interested in high dollar repairs that are not necessary for short term use of the car.
I came in because I had a squeak and rattle in my driver side front wheel area and I wanted to know what the problem was - shock, spring, bearing/bushing, etc. Instead of getting a quote isolated to the particular noise that I heard, I got an overall diagnosis of an old suspension system with quotes to replace basically everything in the entire front end. The reason I chose this store were the reviews that said they only repair exactly what needs immediate repair. I could have gone to any chain store for a diagnosis to replace the entire front end on a high mileage car.
I checked with another highly rated mechanic across the street from my hotel and he told me that all of the bearings and bushings were individually replaceable and they (Precision) were taking the easy way out to repair it. Yes, their repairs would have worked, but I would have spent much more than necessary. I only wanted to repair that which was necessary to prevent further damage to the car.
Originally I was going to have the remaining work done here because I thought there was no other choice, but after talking to other people locally and my mechanic back home, I decided against doing the $2000 or so in repairs they suggested on a 1996 car with 200,000+ miles on it.
They had a ton of people in the shop and many knew the owner personally. My general impression is that the guy who took my car that morning just started making a list of everything that was old and worn, rather than focusing on the specific repair that I requested. I think if I had talked to the owner that morning, I might have had a different experience.
I don't dispute that all the items are old and worn, but there was one item broken and the rest were just worn and old. I only wanted to repair the broken items, not build my car from scratch. I do not feel they tried to focus on what needed to be done, but instead focused on what could be done in a perfect world with endless resources.
As I am out of state without a lot of options, I definitely did not appreciate this approach.
He is always very good and trustworthy. He is generous about what he?ll do for you. I was referred to him by friends and they are very conscientious about checking people out so I felt good about him. I have never been disappointed. He works on all sorts of cars and I go to him all the time. The people there are helpful and they explain things. I never feel like they are trying to find a problem so they can charge me more money; I would say they are fair in that way.
