Mel's Repair has been our go-to repair shop since moving to Pocatello. They have serviced VW Beetle, replaced a wheel bearing in a Toyota ECHO, and chased down various oddities in an Isuzu Rodeo. They are always quick to repair our vehicles completely while neither overcharging nor trying to tack on additional unneeded fees or services.

I asked around my office for a couple auto mechanic referrals, one of which was for Mel's . I drove by Mel's first, but the parking lot was full of cars. Thinking it could be one of those places that initially says they could get right to it, but then takes several days to actually complete the work, I went on to a couple other referrals without stopping. After one referral told me to call back the next week (a reasonable request) and the very unpleasant lady at the front counter ot the other place told me it would cost $120 to have the pickup looked at sometime the next week, but I would have to call then as I would be a lower priority (???), I went back to Mel's.

At Mel's. I was told they could look at the pickup in a half hour. It actually took a bit longer, but since I was a walk-in, I was glad they were completing work which had already been scheduled. Although I was fully expecting a significant problem, after flushing the heater core and tightening bolts to correct a slight gasket leak, the problem was fixed for under a$100! I was also told that if the problem returned in the next few weeks, I would likely need a need water pump ($350, part in stock, and 1/2 day to complete).

Hopefully I won't need a mechanic again very soon, but when I do, I'll go back to Mel's.
