I would never take my animal to a vet at Alta Animal Hospital. They killed my dog this year. She charges people way too much and she has very poor judgment.

She is knowledgeable about our pets, takes plenty of time in her exams, and makes both the pet and owner feel well cared for. She loves animals, and always does everything she can to keep them healthy. The facility itself is clean and welcoming, the staff is always friendly.

We've been taking two cats (one long-hair, one Siamese) and two dogs (one German Shepherd and one small mixed-breed) to Alta for years. Since moving to Idaho Falls we still go to Alta for regular check-ups because they are that good. A few times we have had emergencies come up and had to go with someone local--but still it was Dr. Nickisch at Alta who figured it out, later, or implemented the treatment that was most effective. We've always had very positive experiences, for wellness exams, emergencies, and minor problems, and the whole staff were very kind and sensitive when we had to go through euthanizing one of our animals. They explain all costs in advance, discuss pros and cons of different options, respect your decisions and help you make the best decision you can in the care of animals.

Not good! Kitty had cancer, which they didn't find with blood tests or X-rays. Vet called suggesting test for leukemia and feline virus before operation, to rule these out, another $75.00 and test came back negative. Had to take another $500.00 cash down before they would proceed. Got a call 2hrs later from assistant that kitty had cancer and should be euthanized on the table which we agreed to. I feel my bill was deliberately run up. Cancer was never mentioned until last phone call. Physical exam, the extreme weight loss and blood test should have at lest caused them to suspect cancer! Had we been told that was a possibility we would have stopped with the first visit!

While tests are helpful in identifying many things, certain diseases are very difficult to diagnose without taking a further surgical look. It cost us about $700 for both our dogs. We have never really had any bad experience. I have had bad experiences with vets before. They do a good job. They call and check up on the animals. They call and send me reminders about shots and tests that we typically have done. They will actually have a test before they can provide medications like heartworm medication. They call to check on the dogs about every 6 months or so if we need anything. They have done pretty good with our dogs. Their punctuality is like any other doctor or vet.
