Superior Tile And Stone

I have never spent $500 more wisely.  When you hear the word, "craftsman," this is the guy they are talking about.  He is far-more-than-competent, modest, professional, fastidiously neat, and no-nonsense.  He has 26 years of experience in setting tile, and that is evident in every step of his work.
I had heard about Charlie Hemenway (owner/operator of Superior Tile & Stone) from a couple of contractors in Boise who use him and said he is one of the most honest, hard-working people they had worked with.  I called him about the small job I had , he stopped by to give me a free estimate, and then he sent an email bid the following day.  I agreed to the price (~$100 higher than the lowest bid I had, but I wanted quality work) and he set me up for about a week out.  In that time, my job was to find the tile I wanted at any one of the local suppliers in Boise/Meridian.  He sent me an email authorizing me to select and purchase tile at wholesale prices directly from those vendors (no add-ons, surcharge, no nothing; just a good selection at a contractor's price).
The tile setting and grouting process is incredibly labor intensive and messy work.  You want someone who is neat and clean to do the work or you are in trouble.  On the first day, Charlie set up the tile saw and thinset mortar mixing operating in the garage over several drop-cloths.  He troweled the thinset on to the kitchen walls, set tile and spacers in a process that took all day, and then cleaned up the garage completely. Day two he used the garage to mix grout over drop cloths, and then troweled the grout into the spaces between the tile.  As it dried the excess grout was sponged from the tiles The finished product is a beautiful piece of work.  
Other than through some casual conversation from time-to-time as he worked, Charlie does not know me.  However, after seeing the care he takes and the quality of his work, I felt like I knew him.  I wanted other people to know him as well, so that is why I wrote this recommendation.
