Paid $600.00 to fix my unit. Worked barely over a month. Called them and of course they want more money. No free diagnostic or check up. Just more money. Rip off...

They sent out a guy who worked all one day. He worked on the wiring in the house unit and worked on the outside unit. He said the line from outside unit to the inside unit was plugged. He did not seem to know what he was doing. Two days later they sent out different guy. He said the wiring was all messed up. Spent the day again and ended up saying there was no Freon in the system; added Freon, found out later he should of added a sealer that would plug any small leaks. It worked for a while and now has quit completely. Cost a lot of money. The original installer said they did nothing right and over charged. We would of had him do it but he was not available, he is good and honest but very busy.

We were selling our house, and the buyers had requested an HVAC servicing and inspection. Saw the truck for J&D in front of neighbors house, so went over and asked if they had time to do mine after they finished his. Thought I might get a discount since they were already in the area and had to travel (I was wrong- they still charged $120 for a 30 servicing/inspection).

Toward the end of the visit, they told me my heat exchanger was cracked and needed to be replaced. Told some horror stories about carbon monoxide leaks (which, if you to have a CO leak it is a serious issue) and how I needed to replace right away. Initially told me we needed a whole new furnace for $4200. After I really stated that price was an issue, they said they could do just the heat exchanger for $2400. And, if I signed a year-long contract, for more "servicing" the price would drop to $1900.

The fact they said they had the part right on hand and tried selling me subscription services lowered the cost, etc., were red-flags for "get a 2nd opinion" in my mind. Told them we would need time to think about it and get a 2nd opinion. When we said that, they told us they would have to turn off our furnace. They didn't just power it down and turn the gas off either, but they turned off some switches deep within the furnace so I couldn't turn it back on without getting a professional HVAC person.

Before they turned off the furnace they didn't to a single carbon monoxide test. They didn't do anything to check there was actually a carbon monoxide leak. They simply pointed to a smudge on postage-stamp sized screen on a camera and told me that was the problem.

Called out a different company first thing the next morning and they were out within a few hours (and only charged $70 and included some other work free with that). Explained the problem to them. They took the entire furnace apart, inspected the heat exchanger top to bottom (actually looking at it, not just poking a camera deep in a hole). Not a single crack was found anywhere, and a carbon monoxide test show no leaks at all.

On top of that, my neighbor said (in passing) that they actually found a crack in his heat exchanger the first time they serviced his furnace as well. It seems odd that we both had the exact same problem, and it something incredibly hard for a lay-person to notice or diagnose.

Heat exchanger cracks are very serious and a real problem if they happen, however I get the impression this company preys on "finding" these cracks frequently. Either way, get a 2nd opinion if they tell you you need an expensive repair. You may; or you may be like me where you don't need to blow an extra $2400 for a problem that doesn't exist.

J&D Heating came to my father-in-law’s home to do a $49 “special” furnace tune-up. The technician reported that he observed rust on the secondary heat exchanger (which he showed me with a videoscope) which can lead to carbon monoxide (CO) leaking into the house. He then said he would have to shut down the furnace by turning off the gas supply and tagged it with an “Equipment Danger Tag.” He then gave prices for repairing the furnace, replacing it, as well as replacing the furnace and air conditioner. It was mid-February and my 88 year old father-in-law needed the furnace to run, so I purchased a CO detector and then turned the furnace back on. The detector reported a CO level of 0 (zero) ppm. Since the furnace was nearly 20 years old, we decided to have it replaced and asked another company for an estimate. When I was scheduling the appointment I mentioned the first company had shut off the gas. They asked if a CO meter had been used to verify the presence of CO in the home. I said “No” and they said the gas shouldn’t be turned off without verifying CO is leaking into the home (a subsequent discussion with Intermountain Gas said the same). J&D Heating behaved in an unethical manner when they shut off the heat without doing proper testing. The fact that the replacement furnace they offered was priced approximately 25% higher than a similar unit from a competitor might lead one to believe they were trying to take advantage of the situation.

Tech showed up and tested the heater and found the malfunction that were causing the heater to fail.  He showed me the problems.  One of the problems was a rusted heat exchanger, that would let fumes into the house.  He and his crew removes the old heater and replaced it with a new unit that day.

He did a good job but it was overpriced. I didn't shop around and I should have. The guy that came out was wonderful and nice. He put together a new system for me. I thought it was a little pricey. The quality was fine.

I didn't spend anything because I had a major conflict with them. I would recommend that people not use them. They were not honest and forthright with their marketing. They didn't respond to my call. I would never use them.

"To my knowledge we have never not responded to a complaint--we will call this customer and see what it would take to make this right."
