These people gave a bill of promises and everything they said was wrong. Further, they said the part we needed was no longer available even though our refrigerator is on,y a year old. They said they would have to order from eBay. Then they got back to us and said they would have to reorder the part because the other one was dropped and broken. In the meantime, another appliance business came and immediate,y fixed the problem. It didn't need any parts, and our fridge has been wor,omg just fine. It turns out that Dave's appliance is not a service provider for our brand which is probably why the part we didn't need was being ordered on eBay. These people are rip off artists as far as I'm concerned. Eye did reimburse $100 of the $200 we paid up front. I think they should have reimbursed us completely. I do not recommend them.

Service was fine, tech was pleasant and competent. Same day service which was great. My issue was the cost of the parts. They charged me $339.00 for parts+ $138 for labor. Took less than 2 hours but $$60-80.00 an hour is about standard. But I thought the parts seemed a bit high so I went to the internet. The parts, (I had the boxes they came in so I could look them up correctly) at the most expensive retail were less that $80.00. That's almost 4 times their actual cost. That is excessive.
I believe repair people should make a fair profit on the service and parts they provide but 400% markup on parts is unreasonable..

On the good side they could come the day the washing machine broke down. On the bad side is I felt like the repair person was trying to up sell it and I don't think he may be gave us a choice that we should have had on the first day and I had to call four times on the second day to get them show up with the part and install it. I wasn't too impressed with that. The other part about it is they made us pay before the diagnosis, but before bought the part, we did not feel very comfortable with that. I would say others to keep looking at somebody with better reputation. First day they were great, from the second day they were terrible. I would not use them in the future.

They said a PVC drain line had to be moved and would cost $400. Probably take 1/2 -1 hr to do. It would't have changed the performance.

When called by me with more info on heater systems failure, was told someone would be out as soon as possible. Next day I called to see when tech would show up, and was told that I would be put on the schedule. We were having the coldest winter in many years, temps from 0 to 20 degs and the heater was not working over a weekend. That's when I call someone else and they were there within 30 min, within an hour this tech able to show me what was wrong with the heater.

Do not go with this company and go with someone else. They lie and they over charge. I found out the pump they even put in the washing machine... I could of gotten it for $60.

Heating and Air Conditioning Service
The work took less than 90 minutes to complete. The replacement motor I learned later was a $90 "trip saver" motor, a generic furnace motor designed for quick and adaptable installation. The workman was polite to my wife, but grossly exaggerated the description of the work to be done. Upon completion, the work order cost was over $1,250. Alarmed at the price charges, a friend's suggested that I contract his favorite heating and air company. After fairly describing the work done and the parts used, the "other" service provided said he would have felt bad charging anything over $450 for the same work and equipment. A price that I was expecting as well, but I was working out of town and my wife was left to make the final decision. She has little practical knowledge of such work and is the type to believe people at face value.
Once I returned home and reviewed the charges and compared the prices to the equipment installed and the work required, I called the company and asked for a more reasonable price invoice, no response. I called three time and I wrote four letters asking for a reprised invoice or proof of the cost of the motor. I offered to pay a reasonable mark up and even their over priced hourly rates. But, all I received was a lien on my home and threatening letters for collections and then court judgements if I didn't pay. By this time, the cost of the $90 motor had been grown to over $2,200 with collection charges, attorney and lien fees and interest. All while I am trying to communicate with the company and begging for a fair price. In the end, I had little choice but ask for some repeal of collection charges and then to pay the reaper. I have never been so "screwed" in my life; poorly and rudely treated by a service oriented company. I wanted to sue and if had the time I would have done so on principal alone.
My advise to the world; NEVER-EVER-EVER USE Action Appliance dba, DAVE"S APPLIANCES. A horrible and opportunistic company that feeds on people in need of their services and have little knowledge to defend themselves. The only thing missing throughout this ordeal is the guy threatening to break your knees if you don't pay. But, that was probably next.

Our closing date was just days away and the heater needed repaired. We tried calling a couple of other companies but they were not able to service the heater in time. When we called Dave's Appliance, they were available and so we had them do the work. What a mistake! Several things happened here that are just wrong.
First, they really over charged us for materials. We were charged $897 for a blower motor that should have cost around $350.
Second, they put the wrong size motor (too small) in that nearly burned up when started.
Third, they didn't fix the problem. The replaced a transformer and the motor and left. When we finally had opportunity to test it, the transormer blew again because they didn't correct the short in the system. Oh, they offered to come back out and work on the wiring, thankfully, i found another company with a lot more integrety.
No way would I ever use Dave's Appliance again nor would I ever recommend them to any one.

First of all, this 'Dave' guy is DBA:
1) Action Heating and Cooling
2) Dave's Heating and Cooling
3) Dave's Appliance Service
He also has at least five different phone numbers.
I suggest you check the other business names for reports as well.
We hired Action Heating & Cooling (DBA Dave's Appliance Service) to fix our AC on the evening of 7/5/2011. Dave arrived as agreed. He said we needed a new capacitor and contactor for the AC compressor unit. We were not made aware of his pricing policies either before or during the service call. We were not offered the opportunity to view any defective parts. Dave charged us over $500 for the two parts that retail for UNDER $150, (ie: $250 for a $47 capacitor, FIVE times the actual price). Before I finally got rid of him, he was trying to sell me a blower motor for the furnace! When he finally left, he had $735 of my dollars, and I still had no AC.
The next day I stopped payment on the check in the hope that I could talk to Dave about his prices and come to some reasonable agreement.
I called every business day for the rest of the week to try to talk to him about the situation, with no luck. When he finally did return the call, a week to the day later (7/12/2011), I told him that I thought the charges were neither reasonably priced nor honest, contrary to what his invoice states: "It is our policy to attempt to handle every service call honestly, efficiently and at a reasonable price."
He told me that if I didn't pay, he would place a mechanical lien on my house!
I am in the process of submitting reports to the BBB, consumer protection agency, here on Angie's list, and on yellowbook.
How can this be legal?
I would NEVER use this business again.

Appliance Repair
On May 19, 2009 I contacted this business for the purpose of having my residential Air Conditioning unit repaired. I had found their advertising in the local Yellow Pages. On May 18th the fan motor stopped working because the capacitor regulating voltage to the motor had burnt out and the motor overheated and got “fried”. I immediately ordered a new motor as well as a new capacitor from a local company and picked up those parts the next morning. After returning home, I began installing the new motor, fan and capacitor, making sure that all was wired correctly. The entire procedure took me about 20 minutes. When I powered up the unit by flipping the breaker switch, the unit did not work. I then dismantled the unit, removed the motor and inspected all the wiring to make sure that I had not made a mistake in wiring the motor. I found all wires to be correctly installed. I then inspected the fuses and could not visually determine whether those fuses (2) were in working condition and I did not have any necessary testing meters available to me. At this point (around 2:45pm) the area by the A/C unit had become extremely hot and physically uncomfortable to me – about 100 degrees – and I made the decision to have a repair person come out to the residence and test the unit with the appropriate testing equipment and, if necessary, repair the unit. At approximately 3:10pm, a repair man arrived at my home; I showed him the air conditioning unit and explained to him that I was getting too uncomfortable and tired to be working in the extreme heat to finish the job. About five minutes later, the young man came to me and told me that he had diagnosed the problem and asked if I wanted him to finish the repairs. I asked him about the cause of the problem and about the cost it would take to fix it. He then told me that a) the motor was not wired correctly b) that a fuse was bad and c) that another capacitor was “blown” and that he could repair “the whole thing”. AT A COST OF $200 FOR PARTS AND $200 FOR HIS LABOR! A TOTAL OF $400!! I will report this business I told the repair man to write me a receipt for his time and to get the h*** of my property! I was charged $68 for the 10 minutes he spent at my house! AND HERE COMES THE GOOD PART: Knowing that I had definitely wired the motor correctly, I removed the capacitor in question, removed the fuses in question and drove to a local parts store to have those items tested. The capacitor (a $35 item!) was perfectly fine. One of the 2 fuses ($4.23 a piece!) was bad and I purchased a replacement. I then went back home, replaced the fuse, re-installed the “bad” capacitor, reassembled the entire unit within 15 minutes and reset the breaker switches. The entire procedure (driving to the store, buying a fuse and re-assembling the entire unit took me 1 hour. ONE HOUR AND THE PRICE OF A FUSE, $4.53 INCLUDING TAX) When I set the thermostat inside the house to start the unit, everything worked fine!!
