I stayed home to watch the installation. I noticed they don't use shims to center the window. I asked them about it and all I was told is that the installer has been doing this for over 20 years and knows what he is doing. The window had as much as 3/4" space on one side and the other side had almost none. I was told the caulking would seal the cracks. I wasn't happy but they still didn't install it the way I would like it. I also noticed they use regular fiberglass insulation to seal around the windows. They said the house should breath and expanding foam would push the window and move it. What??? I called the makes of the windows and asked about the shims and they pointed me to a document where is says to shim the window. The windows were installed without shims and will not be fixed.
I was having siding installed by them a week later so came and did that. A little while later when the weather was getting warmer I had turned on the sprinklers. A few of the sprinklers were hitting the house and water came in around the windows and ruined my window sills. When I called and they came out they first told me that the sprinkler shouldn't hit the house that it was bad for it. My response was, "So should I cover my house with plastic when it rains?" They just looked at me with discuss but I was mad. There was three people who came out to look at the installation. They determined that this was the first time they had the windows and siding not done at the same time and the siding instillation guy should have caulked around the framing of the windows. Really...the first time in the over 30 years in business!
They had to pull the siding off and framing around the windows off to seal around the windows. The bad parts was that it was the window guys were the ones doing the work and it didn't look like it did when the siding guy did it. On top of that, they had replaced the back French door and didn't do around the door. They said it was under the over hang and wouldn't get wet. I said I was going to wash the siding as I always did in summer so it would leak then. The reply was that it shouldn't leak. They replaced the molding on the windows that were damaged but they had to come back to redo it as the routing on the boards was not the same as the other windows. Oh by-the-way, when they replace the molding they don't paint or pay for paint. What?
I haven't had any issues yet on the windows except when they window guy was calking around the 6 foot window near the front door he noticed it wasn't tempered. They had to replace it but how does this happen. I'm still waiting for something to happen and see how they respond.
Not happy at all.
I still have the issues with the siding. I even found another area where the foam slides down. I'm just going to fix it myself.
