I hired Handyman Connections on 11/06/24 to have a few projects completed, in order to sell my house. From the start, I had explained that I had plans to list my house by 12/3, to which I was assured it would be completed on time. From the beginning there was a delay with the employee being out, so the project was pushed out a couple days, which I was more than understanding. There was another issue, which I got conflicting stories from the employee and the front desk. One explanation was that the employee’s truck was stolen and in the shop so the work would be completed the first week of December. The other explanation given was just timing. Regardless, no one showed up until I called on 12/4. I explained that 12/9 was the scheduled photos for the house listing, which was pushed out to accommodate Handyman and the delay. Come 12/6, I show up at the house and there is still trash, tape, tools, and a haphazard paint job on the outside of the home. On 12/9 I called and spoke with them about the concerns. There was immediate response on their end and I was assured it would be completed. It is now 12/16 and the contractor still has tools and trash in the home. My issue is the lack of communication and respect for myself, my home, and my time. For a company that “prides“ themselves in customer services and their work, this is not the way to show it. I paid for a service that was to be done well and on a timeline. Unfortunately I did not receive that. I also had to push out photos and listing my home due to this situation. Handyman Connections took an already difficult and hard situation and made it more stressful. I do not recommend this company and urge anyone looking to steer clear.

The hinge side of the cabinet door had split off the door completely. I was hoping that a biscuit might be used to rejoin them, but the handymen who came out did not have a biscuit cutting tool. Instead he glued, and clamped the broken wood styles, and screwed two small metal braces on the backside of the door to reinforce the broken areas. The fix works fine and the repair is hidden. Not what I had hoped for, but nonetheless a reasonable alternative.

Andrew was great. My wife was home the whole time and she was working but she didn't even know he was there as he was great and self-directed. The end result was just what we were looking for and the repaired gate works better than before. The estimate was more than fair and Kayla (sp?) was on top of the behind the scenes. She set up the appointment, to let us know the status of the "handyman", even following up on invoicing, which was easy. I would use them again for any future projects.

Handyman Connection remodeled my bathroom.  I bought everything from the hardware store
and they installed it.  The finished
product was terrible.  The faucet was not
lined up with the drain.  But worst of
all, the tub was installed incorrectly.
The tub did not drain correctly and cracked and popped every time I
stepped in the tub.  Their response: I
bought a cheap tub. They stated the tub was installed according to
manufacturer's instructions.   I couldn't
tell how it was installed until we ripped it out.  They offered to replace it at my expense
because they were adamant the tub was installed the correct way. I went through
another company because I did not trust that they could do it right. When we
tore the tub out, we found that indeed it was installed
INCORRECTLY. It stated that the surface had to be flat.  The tub was not placed on a flat surface and
that is why the tub cracked and popped every time you would use the tub.  The company had since gone out of business in
Boise and the corporate office has yet to call me back on this matter.  I am out over $1300 to replace a brand new
tub.  Do not use this company you will
regret it!!!!

They failed to call me back the first time, and they apologized for this. Their pricing is a little questionable. I was happy with the work that was done. I may use them again in the future.

All the work was well done.  I am pleased with the quality of it.  The workers were polite and competent.  I had a myriad of small maintenance and repairs to be done, and they got done.  I also decided to put down new flooring, and had Handyman Connection do that.  The work was meticulously done, and I love the new floor; I changed from carpet to hard surface.

I had problems with some of the work done within the year after the work was done.  The business had closed, although I think that the owner personally felt committed to take care of problems.  I am very disappointed when a business I have a guarantee with goes out of business.  The owner did eventually respond to my calls and had the problem I was able to report to her taken care of.

Fencing Service

I called because my picket fence was sagging. The repairman was punctual and professional, but I was shocked when I saw how much he ended up charging. He used metal inserts hammered into the ground alongside each post to prop it up. Now, the fence is certainly more secure, but the gate will no longer close properly. Also, the metal inserts are black metal and the fence is white, so it's an eyesore. And, of course, he charged me $250 dollars for his time (less than an hour) which has left me with an eyesore, and ANOTHER problem (the gate) which now needs to be fixed. I would not use them again.

I was impressed by the fact that they worked really quickly. They were proficient. They knew what they were doing. The price was reasonable. There wasn't much better that they could have done. I had a similarly good experience the first time I used them, which was for brick work.

The hose to my kitchen faucet was leaking. I tried to replace it myself but failed. Handyman Conncection sent out Steve Shrum within a 1/2 hour of my call. He told me how to replace the hose, called the supply shop to make sure they had the correct part for me to pick up, and then said there would be no charge because he hadn't "done anything"! Amazing. Usually, I'm charged $80 just for a visit. I decided to have him replace the part for me after all, first because that is the only way he would accept any payment, and also because I could imagine the problems I might have again. He came on his day off to install the part so I wouldn't have to wait. While here, he advised me on what I needed to get at the hardware store to fix a problem I was having with a towel rack in my bathroom. What a nice guy! Later that day, I discovered that the water flow in the faucet was low. I called him, and he talked me through how to clean the filter of the debris that probably had been loosened from replacing the hose.

They did good work. I had another company do the same work, hanging another ceiling fan, and I was charged $39.00 which was extremely less than Handyman Connection. They just are too expensive.
Response from Handyman Connection of Boise
"As a registered general contractor in Idaho, we only use licensed electrical contractors to do electrical work. If a fan is going into a place where there is proper wiring and the correct box inside the ceiling to hang the fan from, we can install it for significantly less. When we have to change the wiring to accommodate light and fan; or the fan is heavy and will require extra bracing inside the ceiling to hold the weight, it does cost more. We only hang fans to meet code in Idaho. If my electrician did not explain this to the customer and get their signature and approval of the price before proceeding, then I apologize. I do not know the situation with the previous fan, but it is possible it was just replacing an existing one and no additional work needed to be done. Or it is possible the work was not done by a licensed electrical contractor. Karen Meyer Owner Handyman Connection"

Handyman Services, Drain Cleaning

I had a very slow moving tub drain which I had already tries to clear myself, so it had been disassembled before I called the plumber. He arrived pretty promptly and ran a snake down the tub drain twice to clear it. When he pulled the hairball out it ran great. When I asked him about the price he had to call the office. I was expercting to pay aroung $50.00 to %60.00 for running the snake. I was flabbergasted when he came back with a price of $196.00. It had taken him about 15 minutes! Their ad had said to ask for the Angie's List discount. He called back and was told they had a 10% off sale going on (no one seemed to know about the Angies' List discount) so it dropped the price down to $176.00. I said it still seemed a bit high and he asked if I was a veteran. When I said no (I am disabled) he said he had a 'little room' and charged me $126.00. The next day, his office called to follow up on the work. They asked if he had opened two drains in the bathrooms and replaced the spray nozzle in the kitchen. I said no, just ran a snake down the tub drain. She seemed surprised. I won't use them again.
Response from Handyman Connection of Boise
"It is not unusual for a licensed plumber to charge more for snaking a clogged drain; the equipment they use has a cost associated with it; and if someone has used Drano in the drain, the snake often will need to be replaced within a week or so. The going rate in the Treasure Valley for a licensed plumber making a service call is between $85-$125 per hour. But I am confused about this posting; we do evaluation calls after each job is finished; and we ask the customer to rate us on a scale of 1-5. We ask two questions; 1. How would you rate your experience with Handyman Connection; this customer gave us a 5 (highest rating) and the second question Would you recommend us to family and friends. This customer answered Yes. They also said "Greg was a nice guy; they will recommend us" Nothing was said about two drains; or replacing a spray nozzle; there was nothing in our work order details about these items. I am not sure why they did not tell us they were unhappy when we called for the evaluation; we want our customers to be happy and we would have tried to make it right, but based on the responses to our questions, the customer seemed to be fine."

The door that needed to be replaced was a pretty straight-forward job - remove the old door/door frame and install a new door/door frame. The existing door frame was damaged by the wind blowing the door off its hinges. The installer lied to me at least four (4) times during the installation. First time when he told me that the hinges on the new pre-hung door were heavy duty hinges (the old door had industrial type hinges) when I found out that the hinges were the same as the ones used on standard interior doors. The second time is when he wanted me to take a discount on the new door he had dropped and damaged stating the alleged cost on this new door was twice as much as the actual cost of the door. Third, when he told me the reason he replaced the cedar with indoor pine was because the cost of the material would have been an additional $125. He was never asked to take any shortcuts, was asked to replace the existing material in kind, and the actual cost of cedar was only $25 at Home Depot. Forth time when he told me that the 10% off discount was a better value than the $100 off coupon. The credit on the actual invoice was $72. The finished product was poorly done. The items he had to come out and repair included: 1. The door would not close properly due to a screw sticking out of the threshold. 2. Several of the screws for the hinges (again standard size interior door screws) were already loose just after 1 day usage. The deadbolt still will not bolt through the door frame (he has the strike plate too high) and the weatherstripping is so poorly installed, the sunlight comes through all around the door. In addition, he didn't replace the safety closer properly (I can't find the part he lost and will have to replace it). The installer did not properly finish the threshold and left an inch gap along the entire threshold on the inside. I talked to the owner, sent her copies of the paperwork his installer left me, was promised they would take care of me and make this situation right. That was over a week ago and I have not heard back since. (She did call me after she hadn't received the paperwork the week prior. I had the wrong email address.)
Response from Handyman Connection of Boise
"We realized that the member was unhappy with our service as a result of a regular evaluation call that we do with all customers after a job is complete. Unfortunately we were behind on our follow up calls that month and we did not find out about this for a while. Because we offer a 12 month warranty we were surprised that he had not contacted us as soon as he became concerned. We were able to send someone out to fix the problem and he then gave us an additional work order. The individual that did the original work which so upset with the member that he is no longer associated with Handyman Connection. It is important that I find out when a craftsman that is representing Handyman Connection is not providing the customer service I expect so I can remedy the situation, but I also understand that some customers are hesitant to call and complain. In our last conversation with him he indicated that he was satisfied with the final solution of the problem part; and the new work that was done. Karen Meyer Owner Handyman Connection"

I have to work on a very small budget for home renovation and try to do as much as I can myself but when it came to knocking out walls and installing doors, I decided enough is enough. My plans grew based upon some lucky finds at a local non-profit building recycling store. A neat pantry door gave me the idea of creating the pantry in the place where the old door was between the kitchen and the family room. French doors really opened up the flow of the floor plan between the dining room and the family room. Now the living room, dining room, and family all work together. My door purchases added to the challenge for my handyman, since the pantry door was already framed and the French doors needed to be framed. New drywall with texture was added to complete the backside of the pantry. This project also included moving some electrical outlets which a Handyman Connection electrician did. All of the work was completed on schedule with minimal disruption to my life (and, since I work at home, this was a big concern). I was amazed at how messy it was to knock out the old drywall and remove the wall. So I was very happy that all the mess was cleaned up beautifully and the rooms were ready for me to paint without any further clean up and preparation on my part. A word about the cost: I marked price as a B in the ratings. This is because I did not get competitive bids and do not know how the price compares to other options. However, I am very satisfied that I paid a fair price for the value I received. I have used HC for several projects and appreciate their work and attitude. I appreciate that they understand my budget constraints. I rely on their folks to give me professional advice so that I get the best outcome. On this project, there was some little thing that wasn't right after they finished; I called; the handyman was over the next day and corrected the problem. So the problem wasn't a problem after all. I am completely satisfied with all of the work. I love the new look for my kitchen, dining room, and family room (and the new pantry).

The plumber they sent was very punctual (early actually) and very professional. He cleaned up everything when he was done. The only thing I would suggest is that a price quote be given before the job is done and that a parts list be provided if charges are made for materials.

I called Handyman Connection to get an estimate to have custom cabinets made for my kitchen. I received a call from Rob on the same day and we set up an appointment. He was prompt, he measured the space, and took notes as to what I needed. Rob made me custom cabinets to match my existing kitchen cabinets and fit them into an awkward space. He made a return trip with color samples for the stain on the actual wood he would use for my cabinets to get a match to my existing cabinets. He returned again with the completed cabinets and installed them quickly. I was impressed with his attention to detail, he even matched the hinges and knobs of my kitchen cabinets. I also liked the fact that I was able to use my credit card for the labor.

Excellent! When I called their office I was very well taken care of me. The woman on the phone explained exactly how they priced and what to expect when the plumber arrived. Greg was neat, clean and respectful. He really took some extra time to explain what he thought needed to be done. I was thrilled both with the work and the ease of doing business with this company.
