I can not say nearly enough good things about Chris. He goes above and beyond in his work, is so detail-oriented, and incredibly flexible. He cuts no corners and went the extra mile to give us the help and support that we needed to take on the project ourselves. I recommend him to everyone, and think his services are vastly unvalued!

Grubb Engineering and Design, we highly recommend. Christopher R. Grubb, PE, came to our home and put us at ease to give us the OK for removal of a floating closet on top of our stairs in our split level home and removal of a small wall in between our kitchen and family room. We would definitely use them for anything in the future and would highly recommend to all our family and friends to use. It’s always better to be safe and do things the right way and Grubb Engineering and Design gave us that peace of mind to move forward with what we want to do. To our surprise, they were very affordable and were able to come over to Spokane Valley, Wa. Thank you Chris

Chris made an initial structural analysis and report for settling in a corner of our home. Some time later, after watching but then seeing the settlement progress, we began to get proposals to lift and install pylons. We reached out to Chris to help us evaluate the proposals. He graciously provided his review, opinions, and even some recommendations on the various solutions, really helping us to understand and navigate the process. He was very responsive every time we contacted him, very professional, knowledgeable, and stood by us the whole way!

Needed an assessment on whether our house could support a second story addition. We talked about possible designs and what the second story might look like. I was impressed with the quality of his work and all of the advice he had. Deffinately worth it to have Grubb engineering come out. I cant recomend them high enough!

Our second floor master has a dip in the center and our contractor wanted the opinion of a Structural Engineer. Enter Chris and Grubb Engineering. Chris was professional, courteous, and respectful of our space. He was able to quickly assess and investigate the situation, answer a myriad of questions with extreme patience, and send us a completed and through report of his findings and recommendations less than four hours later.

Great Service! Chris is clearly knowledgable in his trade. We have sagging floors in several areas of our old house, and needed to specifically know if a bathroom we were remodeling could handle the weight of a porcelain tile floor. He came out, provided a thorough inspection of all the concerning locations, and even delivered solid DIY tips for addressing key problem areas. Extremely professional. I would definitely hire again should the need arise.

Upon inspection my suspicion that a basement post had been removed at some time in the past was confirmed but despite my fears that an expensive solution would be required they gave me a sensible, reasonable option to address the issue. They provided instructions that I can give to whomever I choose to perform the work. The cost of the service was worth it for the peace of mind it gave me.

Chris was amazing. He let me tag along as he made his evaluations and measurements during the inspection. He explained what was good, what need sooner attention and what needed addressing in the furture. The great thing is that as an inspector and structural engineer he has no ulterior motive to sell you a project or a "problem." Chris also did a great job in suggesting a timeline for when the significant issues should be addressed. Chris also provided a very detailed report for his suggested fixes and even offered to review any plans from a contractor to ensure they were in line with his recommendations.

Chris of Grubb Engineering was top-notch. A large tree had fallen on our house and we needed a structural inspection for the insurance company. Chris spent a lot of time with us pointing out places where our house had suffered structural damage. He took plenty of pictures, went into our crawlspace, and also inspected our roof from within the attic. His written report was thorough and very professionally done. I would hire this company again without hesitation.

Mr. Grubb was punctual and was very thorough. I had a lot of questions and he answered all of them in a way that was both detailed and professional. He provided us with a detailed inspection report the and a plan of action for us to take to preserve the structural integrity of our home the day after our inspection. His services were extremely valuable and saved us thousands of dollars in needless upgrades that we were told we needed by a prominent foundation repair company. I would highly recommend his services to anyone either buying a home or having foundation issues. His fee is very reasonable for the service he provides.

Chris showed up on time and provided a thorough inspection (of what can be seen) of the issues i wanted him to look out. He took initial measurements of settling so that we can monitor and provided in report.

Grubb's assessment was incorrect and could have possibly caused thousands of dollars of repairs if I would have followed his recommendation to remeasure (at an additional 250.00 paid to him) in two years. I have contacted him with the five professional opinions I have received since. Grub is defiant and now will not return phone calls or texts asking him to rectify incorrect and incomplete analysis. I have filed a complaint with the BBB
Response from Grubb Engineering and Design, PC
"The client hired me based on my 20+ years of engineering experience, more than 5000 residential inspections and designs, my extensive education and advanced degrees from Furman University and Georgia Tech and my 10 years of exceptional reviews on Angie's List. I took extensive measurements of her home with state of the art tools and provided a five page, written report rendering my opinion that she should not spend money on a structural repair at this time but that she should allow me to remeasure the floors in two years to determine if the past problems were ongoing. After my visit, the client received opinions from structural repair salesmen/estimators that she has a very serious problem and that she should spend thousands of dollars with them to repair her home. One of the differing opinions was from someone who said they were an engineer but worked in the flooring department of a big box hardware store. While trying to explain my conservative, scientific approach to the client in texts and phone conversations, the client would hang up the phone because I would not change my opinion. I saw no benefit for either of us to continue conversations. Regretfully, the client is now very unhappy with our service and she will be spending a significant amount of money on repairs that I am not convinced she needs. I have reviewed my report and considered the additional evidence presented by the client and I stand by my original opinion that this client does not need repair work at this time. Since the client indicated that she will pursue legal recourse against the previous homeowner for non-disclosure, I believe she is most upset with me because I did not give her the leverage she sought for her legal case. Incidentally, I arrived early for the appointment so I'm not sure why she gave me and "F" for punctuality."

I was very pleased with the amount of detailed questions and final drawings for this project. They we're very open to answering any questions I had while being flexible in assisting on other aspects not directly related to the job at hand but would affect the final outcome.

Chris came to our home and did a detailed inspection of the inside and outside. He determined how the water was getting in and devised a plan to remediate it. He explained to us in layman's terms how and why we had water in our basement and the best way to correct the issue long-term. He suggested several basement waterproofing companies to us and we now have 3 of them coming out to bid on doing the repairs. We had the inspection report within just a few days of his visit and now we feel confident that we won't be paying for repairs we don't need. His insight was invaluable. If we ever have another structural issue again (here's hoping we don't!), our first call will be to Grubb Engineering Services. I have already referred a co-worker who is having a similar issue with water in the basement of her new home to Grubb Engineering Services.

Chris did an outstanding job. He is very experienced and knowledgable. I am an engineer (but not structural) so consider myself somewhat qualified to comment on his work. Chris took detailed measurements of relative elevations of multiple points with respect to the center of the floor, on both the basement and the first floor. He concluded that there is some small settling occurring, but not something that needs correction at this point. He also took detailed measurements of the deviation from plumb of walls in the basement and determined that the one out-of-plumb wall is as originally constructed, not off plumb due to any shifting of the house. The most valuable outcome of this study is that we now have a detailed quantitative baseline from which we can accurately measure any future settling to determine whether any preventive or corrective measures are required. All the measurements are documented in his report.
