Really nice guy. Informative. Quickly confirmed issue, removed sweat-solder drain, replaced valve and tested repair, even called up later to confirm it was all working satisfactorily. If--when--I need a plumber again, I'll call John!

Plumber installed backup boiler to existing system which did not work properly, he then proceeded to say the boiler he installed was wrong for the system and could be torn apart if left, so he needed to remove it as soon as possible. He then came and removed the boiler and left stating that he had no intentions of returning. Upon removing the boiler he created a leak in the system that another plumber will have to repair. When contacted he stated that he would not be returning to remedy the leak.
The work started on 12/1/14 I was told it was a two day job. He finished in 12/15/14 and no showed us for 4 days without a phone call. Throughout the experience John was only on time once - the second day. THIS IS THE WORST EXPERIENCE I HAVE EVER HAD WITH A SUBCONTRACTOR OF ANY SORT.

"I did install a tank less heater as a back up for this person. I made a mistake not knowing the gallons per minute output from the existing system pump. It was much higher than the maximum rating on the heater. The heater would have torn apart and flooded his house. I explained this to him 4 times. I bid that specific heater and could not upgrade without a new bid. It was the wrong unit. I have already talked with the new plumber, who confirmed what I already knew, that the leaks in the system were not anyone's fault. They existed before I arrived."

John came promptly the first day and diagnosed our problem (gas valve replacement for a water heater). He was only here 10 minutes and left to find the part. I asked to pay the bill, but he told me "Not today". He called back later in the week to get the job done. When John came, it took him 20 minutes to install. I asked for the bill, but he told me he had to calculate it and would send it. When we got the bill he charged us 3 1/2 hours of labor @ 80.00 an hour. He calculated 2 hours of driving time and 1/2 hour to "find the part" which calculated to 280.00 and that's not time at my house. I felt that he was taking advantage of us especially when calling other services around. PLEASE get a quote before using Rant's Plumbing! It was only 20 minutes on Google Maps from his business address to my house. I called and disputed the price. John stated he would give me 10% off, but it is still a very high bill for what was done. I always pay my bills and have no problem paying for the valve, rate of a service call and the time he spent to install the valve. However, 160.00 to drive to my house twice because he didn't have the part and 40.00 to "find the part" seems dishonest to me. Especially since the labor which was only 1/2 total at my house and the labor charge (280.00) was more than the 230.00 gas valve. I told John that I hoped that he would be up front with his next customers so they wouldn't be surprised with a bill like ours. WOW!

"I am sorry you feel that way. The time from Rathdrum to downtown Couer D alene is about 40 minutes. I can not have every part possible for every heater. If I can not charge for travel , I may as well stay in town."

He did everything I asked and his repairs are holding very well. This was probably a little more expensive than usual because he had to do a 50 mile round trip for this job.

Provider was extremely prompt, offering to come over to the house an hour from my call. Professional service with all the correct tools/supplies with him.

"On July 2, 2013 we went to this gentleman's house and spent an hour trying to figure out how to get a new outside hose bib on his house. He had some other work as well that needed to be done. The work was much more envolved than the time we had that day. We do emergency work as well and we have to juggle our schedule all the time. He was not willing to wait for our schedule to open up."

Plumber replaced old, bad valve with new shut-off valve. Plumber did work in a timely manner, replacing the valve with a superior product. Some welding was required, and so this homeowner could not have done the work.

My kitchen drain starting leaking the night before I had to leave town. I called John while out of town and arranged an appointment with him the day after I returned. He called before he came and actually got there a little earlier than expected.He had to reassemble drain pipes and replace one metal gasket. It took him about 10-15 minutes for something I tried for 2 hours to fix myself. Would definately call him again. Appreciated his discount for Angies's list memebers. Still wish it would have cost a little less. I haven't had to use a plumber for awhile so I suppose he charged the going rate.
