I noticed the engine misfiring for 2 years. Became progressive worse and had trouble starting engine with rough running and strong odor of gas. Would frequently stall after starting and acceleration. On at least 3 occasions I had reported this problem to service personnel when I had the car in for other minor repairs. Each time they asked if the check "engine" light had come on which I told them no. They responded that they could not help me with the problem unless this light came on. They never checked the computer memory or even looked under the hood for a problem. The problems increased and finally the car would not start. I had it towed to a private shop who replaced the spark plugs and found the defective valve and tubing, but requested I take it to the dealer's shop again. After the repairs were completed and a "test drive" was completed I paid the bill and drove off only to find that the engine misfiring was still present, however much less than before. I called back the same day and reported this and was told that unless the check engine light came on they could not help me. After several weeks the misfiring increased and I took the car to a different repair shop who took a computer reading which found a broken spark plug wire and plugged fuel injection jets. These problems were repaired and no further missing. This private shop also remarked that the prices the VW shop had charged for parts were nearly double of what he charged for the same parts. Granted the problem was due to several factors, however the VW mechanics being unwilling to even explore or try to find the problem is unacceptable. Are these mechanics paid by the hour or the job performed?

They are really easy to go in. I can just go in and make an appointment. They always do a complete a/c check. They check out my various systems and attach it to the computer to see if my car is telling that if it has any issue. They never came up with any mysterious problem for no apparent reason. They always gave me reasonable prices when there was something that did need to be fixed. They got it done really quickly.
