After several no-shows, they finally showed up and did a very clean install in October. The chimney failed and was pushed off the roof in the end of December. We had an appointment for them to come back on January 12th but again, no-show and no communication. 2 days later we have water coming in through the roof and every crevice. They still owe us money back for parts paid for that they cannot get in. No communication, very unprofessional.

We did NOT like the follow up. The work was done on May 10. 2022 and we have NOT received the invoice needed to submit to the insurance company. I have called numerous times, sent e-mails, talked to office staff with no results! Sean promised that it would be sent by the end of the day. but never done! WE WILL NEVER USE THEM AGAIN.

I called Safer Chimney in early November 2012 because my insert was emitting smoke into the house after it was reconnected following a chimney cleaning.  They came right out and told me the problem could be fixed by installing one of their liners. That required some alteration to the chimney and a special order connection.  They also committed to reline the firebox of the insert, and install two chimney caps.   I paid Safer Chimney ½ of the estimate which was $972.55 on November 9, 2012. Their estimate stated the job would be completed by 11/16/2012.  In fact, they made excuse after excuse and did not complete the job until December 1.  Meanwhile, they had disconnected the insert which allowed air to escape up the chimney with no way to stop the air flow.  Even though the heat was turned down while I was gone for a week, during November, I had the highest electric heat bill in 26 years.

During the installation phase, the job was not completely finished.  Safer Chimney representative, Shawn, stated he would be back in two weeks to complete the job and recheck all of the connections to make sure everything was properly installed. As I write this it is February of 2014.  During 2013 I called over 100 times leaving messages each time.  I emailed numerous times. I connected by phone twice with a representative who made an appointment to come to my house and finish the job.  During the call, I was asked if I intended for them to do additional work on the roof.  I stated no, I just wanted the original job finished.  I had paid them a total of $1,945.10.  No one showed for either appointment nor did they call to cancel.  I continued to call and leave messages.  No return call.  In one of my last calls and in one of the final emails, I stated that I only wanted them to complete the work.  If they did not do so, I would have no choice but to post a negative review. No response. At this point I have given up.  They have never returned to recheck the connections and complete the job.

In the interest of protecting someone else from a similar experience, I feel obligated to share mine.  The insert and chimney liner are working fine, although the firebox was not relined.  Safer Chimney gives a guarantee, but I have my doubts that it matters, since the company does not return calls or finish the work it was paid for.  I would never recommend this company to anyone.  I hope this post will save someone else from a bad experience.

This was by far the worst experience I have been through with a contractor. The following points summarize my experience:
1. Shawn (the contractor from SaferChimney) rebuilt the chimney crown knowing that a strorm was due that evening (I informed him in the morning). The worked failed at 11:00 P.M. causing numerous pieces to hit the roof. I should note that Shawn did not think the work required a cover to protect it from the storm. Shawn and his son tried to correct the chimney damage the following morning. They did not protect the roof from concrete dust and they did not adequately clean the roof.  Several weeks later, I noticed that concrete had adheared to the asphalt shingles, discoloring a large section of the roof. There is no effective way to clean concrete off asphalt shigles.
2. Shawn replaced my dryer vent after completing the chimney work. I inspected the vent after he left and discovered that the installation was wrong; the pipes were facing the wrong direction, screws were used to join the pipes, poor connection to the outside exhaust, and excessive bending (four 90 degree bends) in the flexible pipe section. The city of Boise informed me that dryer duct replacement requires a permit and that SaferChimney does not have the appropriate license to perform the work. A city inspector came to look at the vent and said it is not to code; in addition, he said that SaferChimney could not correct the work without a license.
3. Forms still need to be removed from the chimney. On two separate occassions, I scheduled time with Shawn to have the forms removed. Each time I left work 2 hours early to meet him. He did not show up on either occassion. I should note that on one occassion the appointment was confirmed 4 hours previously.
4. On multiple occassions Shawn has appeared dishonest. For example, he stated that he has installed numerous dryer vents, however, the vent he installed in my house was not to code and violated the installation instructions for the Whirlpool dryer that is in the room. In addition, it has been difficult to determine who owns SaferChimney and get resolution to the stated problems.
