Finally they brought him out, and we took him home. When I got home, I noticed that a blue ace bandage was around his leg, and when I called to ask what it was for, they told me its from where the IV was put in, and to wait an hour and take off the bandage. So thats what we did.
We take it off and we see tht the IV port still attached to his leg. I assume this would have been removed while the cat was still sedated, or at least done by professional hands.
I called them back and they told me it was easy to take out ...right. Since it is far away, and it was already after 6 I did not have a way to get there...I DON'T drive....The cat was already traumatized over the whole ordeal, and when I tried to remove it (I'm not a vet) the top part came off and the blood started flowing out of his leg. He freaked out and ran away, we were trying to get him, and he was terrified and blood was flying al over the rugs in the house. My daughter was crying, and the cat was screeching and terrified. I am not exaggerating. We were instructed not to feed him for a couple of hours because of the anesthesia, but the only way we could get the thing off was by feeding him and distracting him
I called and told the tech what happened and he was very apologetic and offered to come over after work and see about the cat. That was the ONLY positive experience. I wish I could remember his name. Of course by that time it was over with, and I didn't want to put the guy out by making him drive so far out of his way.
The doctor called the next day and apologized and blamed the staff. So for 500.00 I got blood on the rug, a traumatized child and cat and I had to remove the IV myself. I at least should get part of the fee.....since I did part of the veterinarians job.
I would not go to this clinic again. Yesterday I asked for records and they would not give them to me, I needed proof the cat was fixed, and since he wasn't fixed there, they wouldn't verify what the vet obviously knew upon examining him....I am never going there again. I would gladly pay more for less aggravation.
FYI: This was not performed at my home so I put 2012 as the year since it is required. It does not apply here
"We are happy to respond to this customer's concerns regarding her cat. We are sorry for this owner's unhappiness with our service back in August of 2012. Leaving the catheter port attached was not our intent and rarely happens. Our technician was apologetic and offered to take the catheter out at our clinic immediately, but the owner declined. He also offered to come to her house to remove it as a courtesy. She declined this as well. Unfortunately, she took it upon herself to remove the catheter without knowing what she was doing and the cat bled on her carpet. This could have been avoided if she allowed us to help her. The cat is doing fine. As for her records, none were requested and we ALWAYS give records to clients when asked for. We are sorry for this client's misunderstanding and wish her all the best! We are an AAHA practice in the top 15% of all practices in the country and strive to provide excellent patient care and service. Pets First Animal Clinic"
